The other day I called up 'Insurers hotline' to let them know I've got a 2.25" catback exhaust system on my SS.. They called back today to let me know they are cancelling my insurance with them !
I thought this was strange as the car is fairly stock & I'm over 35 ?

Anyway just warning you these guys don't tolerate even the slightest mod & if your with them make sure it's all in writing..

Dude,
Not a very good outcome at all. Give Shannons a call they have helped many a ls1 member out.

Agreed. Even NRMA, AAMI, GIO, etc will usually let you get away with changing your exhaust without batting an eye lid. Thats just insane!!!

Yes very strange.. Just did an online quote for aami & they had tick boxes for exhaust mod, computer chip(edit) etc & it didn't make any difference to the qoute.. However there policy cost more than what i was paying at insurers hotline...

That's ridiculous given your age unless your claims or driving records are poor. Mine is insured with AAMI with exhaust mods, edit, diff change and lowered (I have it in writing that the diff change is not a problem given it is to a standard ratio (3.46) for that model). Even had them put K&N filter on the policy just to be safe. No change to the amount I had to pay.

That is crazy, its only a cats back. So what happens when you have to replace the genuine exhaust.....you are only allowed to use genuine parts ? That is the most stupid reason I have ever heard of for cancellation of insurance. This world is getting whackier by the day

This insurer is normally o.k, i had my stato with them and they knew about the rims, zaust and all the options i had and im only 26 (24 at the time i had insurence)

They are a VERY low risk insurer though and i have had a mate turned dwn because of the suburb and ther car he owned.

ah well just call AAMI

NRMA did the same to me whilst I was on holidays in Tassie ... fortunately Shannons came to the rescue.

mine is insured with AAMI,

$600 per year with the $2000 excess option, the way i figure it if it is under $200 damage and it is my fault i will fix it myself rather than claim on insurance

that is for exhaust, lowered etc,

and i definatly dont have the best driving history,

i have had to claim once when my car was backed into i just rang them up and they said to bring it to Norwest business park and drop it off, a week later it was ready to be picked up,

Great service at a great price

I found RACV to not be that great... Had my VR with them... everything was fine but i lost my licence so i cancelled the insurence as there was no point paying for it while it was just sitting there...

Called them back up to get it re instated and then was told that cause i had VT SS rims which are too wide for a car without IRS they cant isure me... i asked why it was ok 6 months ago but now not and they couldnt answer me..

I then called up with a got my XR6 and was told as i was under 25 and it was classed as a "high performance car" i would have to pay higher and they cant garentee i can be insuered... I said yeah it might of been back in 1994 but in 2004 it not what i would call high performance... I then asked how much it would cost to insure a 2004 BA XT Falcon.. they said yep thats $550.00.. I asked why cant they insure me with a 1994 XR6 which is 161k/w... yet they will insure me with a car that is 182k/w and of only a little heavier... They said.. sorry our database shows your car as a high performance vehicle for over 25's only...

When I got my VT SS, RACV was the cheapest that would insure me as everywhere else wouldnt as i was under 25... I was going to go with Just Car but they couldnt do pay by the month.. plus RACV was only $81 per month.. and i thought oh well I'll give them another go...

Well it was all good untill I got my headunit... I payed $2100.00 for it... called RACV to tell them... They then said.. sorry as your headunit is over $3000.00 we cant insure you... I said but i paid $2100, they then said as they have the Kenwood DDX7045 valued in their system as $3500.00 they cant insure it as the value of the stereo now exceed $3000.00... I just told them to cancel it and refund the money and if they paid $3500.00 for that headunit then they are getting ripped off...

He then had the nerve to tell me that there was a $40.00 cancellation fee as im cancelling the policy... I said there was no way im paying it as im only cancelling it as they are going by a RRP of that unit when it came out over a year ago... after a bit got that refunded....

I ended up having to go with Just Car and just putting it all on credit.. I turn 25 soon so im gonna cancel with Just Car get the differnce refunded and go with AAMI....

Only other problem with NRMA, AAMI (and a couple of others) is that most smash repairers wont touch your car!
All damages are posted online for people to bid on - and it will end up at the cheapest place possible!
Do ya homework... Suncorp best by far. And even though Just Cars is underwritten by AAMI - they are OK when it comes to repairs.
Im with Just Cars now - but when I was with RACQ was told no to single 3" - but a dual 2.5" was OK!! Go figure...
