Went to the Australian Factory Performance Car Nationals at Bathurst today and what a great day out. Caught the CONROD SPRINTS where entrants two at a time raced under controlled conditions from up near Forest elbow all the way to the start/finish line down on pit straight. Great day. Plenty of interesting people from all over the place. Meet a real nice bloke from Brisbane who had come down for the weekend in his :nos: GTS coupe and saw plenty of other LS1 based cars including a few GTO's, R8's and GTS's up against GT's (old and new), Monaros, Torana's, Chargers and Cortina's just to name a few.
Anyway the Bathurst Light Car Club ran a great day and the action was excellent. From the brief conversation I had with a few guys there anyone could enter so I think the ute will be having a go next year (five or six flat out runs down Conrod straight blowing Fords into the weeds sounds like a great day to me)!!
I'll be putting this event in my calendar for next year!!

did anyone lose it towards the bottom of the straight? my only concern with this event is the terminal speeds and the ability for the cars to pull up ok. Did they get any practice runs?

Saw one guy loop it through Murrays and pull it up with millimetres to spare before hitting the wall  but as far as I know it was all pretty good. No accidents. Everyone was pretty careful with there pride and joys!!

Did this a few years ago in my old datto, Heaps of fun. The second day heading UP though the Cutting Etc is GREAT FUN!!.
I really didn't think about the walls on the run down, its too much fun and your on the bathurst circuit, not often you get to do that!!
Might have to join a car club and do it again!!

Hehe, I wouldn't be so cocky. A TE50 (AU3) came fourth overall, first in class. Only beaten by Group A and C cars. (Trailored to the event)
TE50 drove in, drove out, embarrasing many 'fancied' HSVs.
Anyway, sounds like it was a great event. Hoping they release a DVD of it??
I'll be there next year.

It was a bit tongue in cheek the comment about the Fords :stick:. There were some extremely quick cars out there. The TE50 you're talking about put on a pretty good show power sliding out of most corners all day!!. I was a bit disappointed that there were no Ford Turbo 6's or a few more SS's there to see how they would compete but it was a great day all the same.

That's cool. Just a bit of traditional Ford v Holden banter. It's all good. :headbang:
Just been told that, behind the TE50, equal second was a BA GT and HSV Coupe. Then 4th was another TE50.
And yeah, very dissapointing to hear of no XR6Ts turning up. Chance to prove themselves... And no show. Shame
And yes, to answer my own question, there's a DVD being released of the event. Should be available in a months time to the public.

I popped down for a couple of hours to have a look see and was pretty impressed with what I saw.
Came a bit ill prepared to deal with the sun, there is nowhere to hide. Luckly I eventually remembered my HRT golf umbrella in the boot and didn't end up to badly burned.
It was great to see the different cars getting round, old and new. As has been mentioned already, seeing that TE50 power slide through Murray's corner time and time again was just awesome.
Also seeing a Ford Lightning get the tail loose through Murray's was something to behold, small they ain't. And then to hear the whine from the supercharger as he dissappeared up the pit straight.
Fun indeed, will be thinking going next year for sure
cheers
