I am interested in a comparison of these two fuels and experiences in tuning for them both.
Boost 98 has been reported to lean the cars out up to a point and can allow the cars to take some extra timing? Is this accurate.
Also Optimax Extreme being 100 Octane and 5% ethanol you would expect even more timing being able to be advanced and 5% suggests maybe half the leanout effect of Boost 98.
So maybe 0.2-0.5 leaner?? Boost 0.5-1.0 point leaner.
I have to decide which fuel to get a tank of Boost 98 is closer and cheaper - but my suspicion is that Optimax Extreme might better.
Dont worry about negative effects of ethanol in this thread - i will be just using this to and from the track and for Drag Racing. But it will be tuned to suit.

i havent used them in any commodores, but we did try it in our RB30 twin cam 200sx, on 11psi boost with BP ultimate it usually makes around 415rwhp.
put some 100 shell in it, first thing i noticed was the car was lean, had to put .6 MS into the injectors, with 6x900cc injectors that is a lot of fuel, car defiantly didnt respond as well on the 100 shell, lost a lot of power, took 14psi to make 405rwhp, didnt respond well to timing, put the 98 back in and loaded the old map and away she went again. remember this is my exprience with forced induction cars! i dont like the fuel in forced cars but i will try it in my SS and see what it is like.

My experience with both those fuels is that the boost is by far the better fuel. I couldnt feel any difference with the extreme over the regular opticrap and soon as i refueled with boost i knew straight away which i prefered. Far more responsive and def much more power. Very noticable. Car was tuned with boost in it at the time but im not too sure on how important that is to be honest.

My car was tuned on Boost98 by G&D so hopefully Matt or Glenn can respond, although it was a few months ago and no doubt they have tuned lots since so possibly don't remember.
It picked up about 3rwkw over my previous identical VZ SS on BP Ultimate, though of course it's hard to know exactly how much of that was the difference in the fuels. I have been very happy with it. :burnout:

Which company sells this Boost 98?
Down here (Vic) it is United Petroleum. http://www.unitedpetroleum.com.au/
The other good thing is that compared to Optimax Extreme it is much cheaper - usually only 2 or 3c dearer than standard unleaded.

Well maybe i will stay with Boost 98. Its closer anyway.
I hope someone with tuning experience with the fuels would make comments.

I through Boost 98 in my old Five litre and felt a noticeable difference to Ultimate - maybe the way to go

I just finished my first little economy test with boost. Some have said in other Boost threads that the fuel economy may be a little worse. In my experience that included highway, city and a touch of enthusiastic driving and I still averaged 15ltrs/100k. And it's at least 5c cheaper per litre than any other 98 RON fuels.

well let me put it to you like this.
I know theres no Optimax 100s around Penrith where I live too, but their everywhere around work.
Since 100 was released ive been trying to fill it up on an empty tank, so far though because of the good old holden fuel guage it always shows 1/4 tank at work but empty at home, so ive had to fill up at home.
Finally i get it empty at work after feathering the throttle all the way there with the fear of running empty and guess what, not availiable - pump out of action.
I try again a week later, I got the wrong Servo (anyone know where the Shell on Wicks Road Nth Ryde is? I suppose its down the other southern end, I havent really looked to be honest)
Try again yesterday, same scenareo - cars on dead set empty and theres a truck filling the station in the morning. I pass, then the afternoon i come into the station the wrong way and fight with traffic - finally get a spot and guess what, Pump put of action . I wanted to run some 100 through it before its service today, I figured just to clean it out a bit before they change the filters and the rest.
I give up with the extreme at the minute, maybe a fuel the adventra will never see!
BTW who does sell the Boost? Ive never heard of it.
My rant for the night :flame:

while i work for caltex i feel bad for trying the boost 98 but am getting very good economy out of it compared with the normal vortex i usualy use.
as car hasnt had a tune i see no point paying the extra and running the 98RON fuels but the boost 98 was actually cheaper than our unl so gave it a go.
Car runs a lot smoother and i have gotten nearly 2 weeks out of $40 which is incredible!! - usually im getting $30 a week. Mind you maybe a tad less driving not much though.
Still not sure about the ethanol bit but gets my vote for bang for your buck and economy.

Where in newcastle did you get the boost 98 from ? Also what caltex do you work at ?

Hi Guys,
We only put a handful of stores in Metro Sydney to test Optimax Extreme.
At this stage it will not be rolled out in any other stores.
Production is limited at this stage and demand is quite high, hence the reason for some shortages.
With only a few stores carrying the product, stores are being cleaned out daily. I even had a race mob make a major purchase in one hit, testing it out etc.
I am no major expert, however thats my 2 cents worth.
cheers

My sons VL tubo leaned out to much on the Dyno using the 100 shell as well & could not get a good fig as they had to abort the run. But it could have been fuel pump pressure as well

Just had a look on the united fuels website Mark.
United servo on industrial highway Mayfield seems to carry it. :)

Aussie372 have a look at the United Petroleum Website - there is a United service station in Newcastle. It also should be in the phone book.
I got some BOOST 98 today and started logging with it in. So far it feels quicker with it , and on the EFIlive logs it has leaned it out around 2.5%. It was misty tonight and too dangerous to find out all i wanted to find. Will be interesting to see if it can take more timing - as i am racing next weekend at Summernationals Drags at WSID.
