hey guys,

I have a 99 vt gen 3, and the engine light has been going on and off since yesterday afternoon, but it only comes on when I am accelerating, or when the vehicle is under load, anyone know what it could be, doesnt sound to good.

Took it to my mates shop and he hooked it up and it said something about an oil sensor or pressure or something.

I have it booked in for tomorrow but just wondering if you guys might now.

Thanks

oil pressure sensor is stuffed if thats the code its throwing. could also be bad oil pressure. does the oil light come on when accelleration? Is there plenty of oil in the sump?

I have the same problem, am going to try and
get it checked out in the next couple of days,
time permitting. Let us know how you go.
Anyone know the going rate for Holden to
plug in their TECH2 and give you the fault
codes, don't want Kerry Holden trying any
of their tricks on me :)

oil pressure sensor then, behind the intake manifold on the passenger side, screwed in to the back of the block. bit of a bitch to change, a ngk plug rubber makes it a bit easier.

Just spoke to a tech at Holden, who informed
me that the Oil pressure switch also controls
the fuel pump and that the car would be
running like a dog if anything was wrong
with it. Also reckons they are a known problem
though, and he has 7 in stock at $158 each.

i have found them totally inoperable a few times and the car still runs ok.

Thanks mate, I usually take what the Holden techs
say with a grain of salt, they really should know
a lot more considering they work on the farkin
things every day
I just spoke with Les from Kerry Holden, $50 to
plug the tech2 in and get the basic fault codes,
based on 30 minutes work, and then maybe more
if they have to run any more checks. When I
questioned him on what extra checks he was very
vague. Reckons 45 mins to change the oil pressure
sensor if that is the prob.

I am in the NT mate, one Holden dealer, no
forum sponsors or LS1 experts :(

just another quick Q. if it was a faulty sensor, would the engine light stay on??

When the oil sensor on my vt was playing up, engine light was constantly on.

Mine too.
I think mine was $120ish from Chullora Holden. Sonny replaced mine. I wouldn't get Holden to do it - they'll likely rip you off. :)

My car ran fine too - never heard of anyone's car running badly just because the oil pressure sensor switch was faulty. It's just a switch that senses high/low oil pressure.

Cheers,
- Febs.

Mine was roughly the same price, bit surprised after seeing it was made in mexico.

stepsons engine light came on. he took it to Holden who said it was the Oil Pressure Switch taking too much power from the electrical side and the car still ran fine

all the oil sensors ive replaced on gen 3's the car will still run, and the engine check light will stay on.

the only one that youd normally have a problem with the oil sensor is the early commodores, and even then they would normally still run ok.

the engine light is staying on constantly from start up now, before was only on when i accelerated, and went off when took my foot off the gas. but its in the shop now so hopefully will be ok.

Mine came on permanantly for about 20 minutes
yesterday afternoon whilst driving into Darwin.
It doesn't come on after start up, but will illuminate
at times whilst driving and then go out again.
Let us know the result please Cal, sounds like
we share the same problem.

It apparently controls the fuel pump as well, but that
is according to a Holden Tech, so may not be true.
