Also a scarey thing popped up the other day.. Started car and drove off straight away with a different chime.. on the display had "Performance Reduced" and then "Safety Enabled"... WTF!!. Turned her off and back on and she was fine.. Any Ideas?

Yeah yeah i know, whay couldn't these be rectified during QA or delaer delivery?? who knows, but at least we have warranty!

Good to see things haven't changed in the Holden camp, even for their Limited Edition or Last Of A Legend or whatever the f**k its suppose to be :lmao:

errr.....how did you "start the car and drive off straight away".....i would imagine it would not like being revved to 6500rpm when its cold

The only real issue i have with mine is an annoying noise from the passengers side door area when going round corners(L & R).its like a small stone or other hard objet is rolling around in the bottom of the door or Passengers seat.
Openeing and closing the door there is no noise and i can't generate it without driving.
Anyone have any idea.
Sunroof is noisy with the cover back but i never use it anyway.
If i went to the dealer with a list like that i'd be more worried it would come back with more issues than it went in with.
Oh and occasionally i'll start it up and the blinkers won't work.Everything else is fine but no indicators.
Turn it off and on again and all is well.
Any ideas anyone?

The noise from the left hand side could be stones trapped in the side sills. At the lower front of the rear wheel arches there is a gap where stones can find their way into the sills. Just get a short screw driver and take off the rear cap(the same location where the stones get in) and you will probably find a handfull of stones and gravel that have found their way in there. A major design fault!!!

Gday Snappa!

I had a list as long as that too on mine at my first service......and guess what, Im going back again for the THIRD time to have everything completed because the Service Manager doesnt allow enough time for the tech to work on my car (when I book it in) and also due to part ordering stuff ups and availability issues!! The Service Receptionist at my dealership has also started giving me a bit of an attitude when i walk in with a list - to the point that my normally patient demeanor was tested on Friday when i went in last!

But anyway, in addition to the majority of the issues you have listed which I had also, I also have issues with my glovebox not aligning properly (plus it has also split itself inside at the join of the lower and back trim).

Its a real pity that quality on such a prestigious car is so low!!! When you spend $65k on a car you dont really want to have rattles and plastic trims falling apart! Its not like they've just started building the things! I would love to know how much Holden spends on WARRANTY issues each year!

The poor fit and finish is really my only gripe against Holden - and I truly hope that this is addressed in the new VE Commodore!

By the way, The Performance Reduced issue is the "LIMP HOME MODE" which kicks in when there is a problem such as overheating etc - check your owners manual as I think its described in there!

i guess after all these issues dont buy a monaro, the last model monaro u wont forget.

quality not quantity thats what holdens should aim for.

Other than the CZ8Z logo problem, the roof lining rattle and the sunroof (which I haven't personally experienced in a lot of Commodores), I'd say all thoses problems are typical of Commodores/Monaros. Nothing really unusual and hopefully the dealer can fix them relatively easily ...

Sounds like Holden's quality control has gone downhill lately, the only warranty issue I had on my VX SS was a seat base that clicked as you moved your weight in the seat apart from that it was fine, everything fitted well and worked as it should have. No rattles or badly fitted trim at all.
All in all very happy with it.

It hasnt gone downhill because it never existed. Its all about volume, produce as many cars as you can and if there is problems with them, the dealers will fix them. Hence the reason why some are ok and some are not :)

My CV8Z just had its 3000 service and the only problem was a "rattle" in the gear shifter. This will be replaced as soon as the part gets in. They even said they will have a loan car for the few hours they need it. Glad I got a good one by the sounds of things.

Snappa, i'm sure you will receive the standard lines of "thats normal" and "we couldn't fault it" for some of the issues....oh i almost forgot "we fixed it" but you fing out a day later that it hasn't.
Good luck

Struth, now that's a list. I'm about to go in for my 20,000k service and will have the following corrected:

9. Fuel guage misreporting amount (fix available)
17. Noisy Gearstick on acceleration (occured about 5,000ks ago)

I had Noisy sunroof corrected under warranty. 'Encouraged' Holden to let me take my car to a reputable sun roof repairer in Melbourne and they agreed.

Cheers,
Steve

Not trying to rub it in at all, but with my VZ SS ute, I have not had ONE problem (the thing has done 42,000k's now). maybe some are bad, some aren't? Any problems I should look for in my car?

Must just be issues in the hurry to get the last ones finished.

Problems with mine in 24,000km:

A/C fan switch in dash only worked on fast from new. 5 minute fix.
Park Assist sensor lead knocked off fitting towbar (not Holden's fault). Ditto.

My fuel gauge is pessimistic, but I prefer that. DIC is almost spot on for fuel consumed.

I had my diff swapped (warranty) at last service due to 'whooooooooooooo' at speed. I forgot to mention at 5K service and it probably only needed a crownwheel adjustment then. Replacement is perfect.

Other than that, the only issues are those caused by me, like scaping the chin spolier, and a stone zotting off the bonnet. I smoked the clutch with four people on board, but it has been fine with adjustment for 15K.

Other than that, everything opens and shuts exactrly as it should.

I feel for you. The worst problem I had was a stuffed diff (unbelievably loud whine) which was replaced under warranty. The 4 week wait for the part was a joke! Leather on auto shift was torn and fan belt is noisy on cold starts. Its been back 2 times & still not fixed. I also forgot to mention the rear speaker than need to be replaced due to distortion.

Thanks for the replies guys.. keep them coming.

Just for people that don't know me... I am pedantic when it comes to my car and have always been picky with Holden and Warranty.

My dealership is used to me when it comes to this as I used to have a CV8 Series II that I was also very pedantic with and they fixed all the problems.

The car gets serviced in the HSV devision so the butchers do't get a chance at destroying it.

I'm sure the list will get fixed but they will need to be ordering a few things which cause it to be a little wait on parts.. But usually the car is in there for a few days to fix everything and a loan car is supplied.

Im not having a dig at poor quality, I think we are all used to seeing these problems, i suppose 2/3's of mine would go un-noticed to others..

Thats all..

Still love the car!

Had a weeping core plug, drivers side head, at 900kms, replaced it, changed the oil and filter and did the 3k service at that time.
Have noticed the sunroof noise since then too, otherwise its mint, although after seeing some of the items listed am going to have a good bo-peep on the weekend...it may even get to clock over 3000kms...
Any-one in Perth had thier sunrooves ??? repaired? if so was it Holden or a specialist roof joint?
cheers n beers

Same problem here with the core plug on right side head at 500 kms. Also clutch shudder when taking off at lights which the dealer says should eventually "bed in", but I have doubts about that. Noisy sunroof and loose sunroof slide as well. These problems on a car that has only done 700 kms so far. Plan is to run up 1500 kms and then have these problems rectified. I suppose at least I have another two and a half years to of warranty left to sort it.

I have had a good response from the dealer. My clutch was shuddering at 700 k and was replaced no problems. Not sure about the bedding in issue. My view is anything that even sounds sus requires you to get it on the record for down the track. My crewie is my 4th new car in the last 10 years and gotta say the build quality isnt at the level of the other competitors vehicles. :vpo: But I think I like it the most of all the cars so far-in terms of delivering what I wanted from it. It will be getting replaced in 18 months or so. I am looking forward to seeing what the new VE is like and also what the nearest competitor comes up with! But ultimately if they keep screwing up on the quality control they lose customers and they lose profits. :soap: It costs a lot more to get it right the second or third or fourth time round!!!!!:yup:

I think i spoke to soon, drove the car yesterday and the Cruize control decided to stop working.
Selecting on and off and no response.
Pulled the key and cleaned it and the contact on the collumn and no luck.
Then on the next drive it came good again.
Due to this and the intermittent indicator issue i have swapped to the spare key and will see how that goes.

Mine :

Had a leaking diff. Took 4 visits to sort out - finally done.

I get loud pops and the occasional thud from my climate control vents when I switch vents using the mode button - Have asked to have rectified a number of times with nothing being done. Will keep pushing.

Get swish-swish noise form rear wheels due to handbrake shoes scraping. A forum member alerted me that there is some sort of scrape kit Holden has devised. Which I will be pushing for at the next dealer visit - anyone got specific details on this ?

Slightly misalingened glovebox as mentioned previously

Cheers,
Muz

Seems a few people spoke too soon. Melbourne rain has returned so on came the wipers, then all of a sudden I get clicking noises. Clicks when the wiper reaches totally vertical and clicks when it returns to horizontal. Only minor minor clicks but when you're used to it being so whisper quiet these quicks hint at either something mechanical or loose.

Oh and when I turn traction control off and floor it, the rear wheels spin but when I turn TC back on it stops. Is this normal for all CV8s? I'm definitely not gonna ask holden to fix that. :driving:

Yes, I have some of those too:

1. Seat beat difficulty (gets jammed)
6. Plastic panel under rear bumper saging
8. Roof lining rattle while going over bumps
10. Volt gauge lens numerous scratches
11. Noisy Sunroof - wind noise
13. Top rear lining buttons have fallen off
14. Drivers seat retracting handle sticking

What other problems have been encountered on other CV8's VZ's.

new ones:

It had a dent in the roof when it was delivered new, so that was repaired by the painteless dent removal guys who cam to the Holden dealer to do the work.

Driver's door window slightly loose when wound up, resulting in rattling/crashing sound coming form the window mount inside the door.

My sunroof is booked in with the sunroof specialist for an overnight stay next Monday where they fit a new seal. It is getting noisier all the time...

I don't really care about all of these little problems. I love driving the car!

I just got mine back from Holden after 3 days in the shop to fix 12 and 13. I too have the sunroof wind noise although that is reduced when the cover stays in place. Beware also of your paint job, I have had two major chips in the front and they are only major because the paint is so thin, it chips in a chunk right to the undercoat (which is white) - in contrast to the phantom black, the chip stands out like a juicy pimple on the nose.

I am happy to say for now that the slider is now fixed only on the 4th occasion when they sent the car to the manufacturer. Holden will simply bend the slider panel until it goes back into its tracks until which time you pull it back and it pops off the tracks again. The whole thing needs to be readjusted properly by the manufacturer and insist on it.

Regards, Nick
