it's located inside the fuel tank. You must remove the tank to access it from the top of the tank.

mate, while you have the tank out clean it right out, crap in the tank could have stuffed the pump.

Goodaye crafty. Your fuel pump is behind the sender unit located in the lower section of the fuel tank. A lock ring positions the assembly in place. Depending how much fuel is in the tank, you will need to drain or syphone it out. Pull the complete assembly out and you will see the pump. Cheers Chev

Rather than pull the tank out is it possible to fit an external pump.I believe the v8 model of the vp has an external and internal pump.

Mate you do not have to pull the tank out. Yes you can fit an external pump

I don't think the VP has a locking ring, it has 6 x 8mm headed bolts to hold it in place and Chev is correct, no need to remove tank, but you will need the fuel level down to approx 1/8 of a tank.

Spot on.

I replaced a VP V6 fuel pump 6 months ago. You acess the the plate from underneath the car close to the filter. Remove the bolts and pull the sender out.

Its a very very straight foward procedure to replace the pump.

NO need to remove the tank.

Hi Guys. I have just pulled the fuel pump out of my VP wagon. It appears that I have pulled out a return pipe that looks like it goes to some kind of a filter inside the tank? No way i can get it back on, is this a problem?
Also when I go to the spares shop to get a new fule pump, do I get the pump and sender, float etc or just the pump?
Kind regards
Gonzop

You'll find that not having the return pipe connected over the pump it will (below 1/4 of a tank) loose the draw at a forward left lean of the car. Its certainly no big deal as my old VN had that issue.. You do get caught out on the odd occation.

I can't recall what you get in the box but once its all in, spray the good old CRC on the plug before connecting back up as it does tend to get a little corroded due to the elements which in some case's is the main reason why they stop in the first place. :P

Thanks for the advice. I have reinstalled everything, took ages for the fuel to pump up enough for the thing to idle.
Took it for its first spin, died after about 1/2 a k. Wouldnt start, waited 10 minutes and away she went. 1/2 k later died, wated etc etc etc for 4 times. Since then it seems to be ok but I did fill it right up so dont know if thats what fixed it? Initially it had about 20 litres in it.
Any ideas?

You say you can not hear the pump prime up .... I assume you have checked the fuel pump relay ? They're even easier to replace  If it is the pump then it has already been explained how to take it out. And yet again, clean the tank out thoroughly as water in even the smallest amount can destroy a new pump as easy as it did the original one. If you find ANY water in the tank I'd flush the fuel system and check your injectors.
