Have seen the add on the tele a few times but didn't take any notice, till last night and noticed the rodeo now has an Alloytech V6. Checked out the Holden Webiste and sure enough, now running the HFV6...but only at 157Kw. Other than down on power is this the same spec HFV6 that is run in the Base Commodores??

They have been exporting them for a while with those engines.

Why didn't they put a v8 in the new rodeos? Iirc they did it to a couple of them for rally purposes. What would fuel consumption be like? I know the fuel economy with the petrol v6 in the rodeos is pretty damn avg...

There really isn't a market for a V8 rodeo.. and i think if they did it would only steal sales from holden commodore ute range...

I have a new Rodeo 4x4 cab chassis truck that has the 3.6L V6 the compression ratio is actually lower (9.6:1) than the versions fitted to the commodes and has been set up for commercial vehicles (better low down torque) Although it has more power and torque than the 3.5L Isuzu unit it replaces.

Although mines a manual version and it goes pretty well I have yet to take it off road soon.

read that in street machine commodores the other day.

are the engine mounts used for the v6 the same as the ones for the gen3/4? a v8 rodeo would be cool, and it could be easier if they are the same.

Yep - I have driven/tested one. Engine has no VCT and - I think - lower comp to the Commodore

They have variable valve timing.

Holden makes no mention at all of continuosly variable cam phasing for the Rodeo version of the HFV6 and the cam jobbies appear to be missing from the engine. I think it retains throttle cable, too. It's a ripper-stripper

Not really they still have VVT same as the base Alloytec 175 but they reduced the compression ratio and it does have the drive by wire because it would not of passed euro 3 emissions. Also I don't see a mechanical cable linkage connected to the throttle body just an electrical wire so to speak.
Only difference I can tell is the lack of the turtle cover thats about it. It just has VVT on the inlet valves not on the exhaust valves and it does not have the variable intake manifold. All it is
* Lower compression ratio
* Different VVT timing.

Did you trade the Grand Cherokee on it, Dan?

Yeah had to the GC was a very nice forbie but I really needed a cab chassis 4x4 ute. Also the mrs is not as keen as me in 4 wheel driving so I got a good deal with a new base model Rodeo has all I need a/c CD player and 4x4.
Although I miss the GC for its overall comfort but I don't miss the thirst of it.

Only had the rodeo a week and a half so its in my run it hard in stage. :-)

I've got a 2000 V6 Rodeo Dan and it's an absolute pig on fuel, i believe the later 3.5 was even worse... What's yours like or do you need to do a few more kays before giving us a report ?? :)

Yeah, Tell me about it. Ive got a 99 model LX 3.2 V6 trayback, actually its not too bad when you drive like a grandma. But it really guzzles if your a bit heavy with the right foot. :burnout:

I wonder how hard it would be to transplant an alloytec into it???? Hmmmmmm :D

The fuel consumption is not all that flash at the moment but it should get better once it has a few more clicks. I could of gotten a turbo diesel but I found them to be weak and sluggish. Also I think my driving style seems to effect the drinking I tend to push it rather hard. :)

Danv8. Does your alloytec Rodeo do about 3000 rpm at 100 kmh. My 99 Isuzu engined one does, and I think thats a bit of a killer when it comes to fuel economy.

Also what transmission do these new Rodeos have with the new engine. Does it have the aisin 6 spd manual like in the Commodore? Or does it continue with the Isuzu 5 spd?

It has a 5sp manual and a 4 speed auto. Other vehicles in the class have 6 speed manuals and 5 speed autos. Holden should be able to offer more considering the new free trade agreement between Oz and Thailand

Yeah it revs aroud 3000 rpm at 100 clicks although it has different gear ratio's over the previous 3.5L V6 (I think).
1st 3.75
2nd 2.25
3rd 1.37
4th 1:1 (direct)
5th .73

Final drive 4.30

The 4x2 versions have 4.10 ratio.
