Before we get in to number's, etc. I want to that Gary for such a great day
We ended up with 29 'official' dyno run's followed by MNR-0 coming late but still pulling a healthy 260rwkw or so. Also Jason from G&D put the VT Clubbie up on the rollers but only managed a 210rwkw :(
Congrats to those of you who took home a trophy, well done:
Best V6 - Chris (Krizto - 132rwkw)
Best LS1 - Damian (Scud - 277.4)
Best LS2 - Richard (CLUBVX - 231.2rwkw)
Best Holden - Graham (163.7rwkw)
Best Forced Induction - Darren (Blown VZ Clubbie - 322.1rwkw)
The crowd was awesome with around 55 people watching at peak time (lunch  ) and everyone was on their best behavior out the front and :burnout: were at a minimum!
Was also nice to see the boy in blue coming down and showing their support, next time however we must get one of their LS1's up on the dyno :) .
Well thats enough from me, here are the results .....

Great day you blokes. Congrats and thanks to Chev and the boys for a job well done.
Some good results there out of a few cars and it was good to meet a few blokes.
Oh yeah, one of my cats shat itself and started rattling like a bugger after I got home....must've been all of the power from my new D/F extractors!
Its off to the exhaust shop for me.
Can't wait for the next one.
Well done Gary and the boys. :bravo:

Yeah a few people said they believed the dyno was reading a bit low however I personally was happy. I managed 132.0rwkw and yesterday afternoon go 133.3rwkw at G&D Performance.
The number's change from dyno to dyno, for me its more of a fun day and a chance to meet some new people and catch up with some old faces :yup:

Yep it was a great day, good to meet a few of the guys and put faces to names.
It was the first time i have put my barge on the dyno and i was hoping for anything over 160 so i am pretty happy with the outcome. Now i can start modding it :)

Well done to the boys from CHEVS.

Gday Macca,
Interesting to see you have a A6 from the above table- an auto six speed, those senators have all the extra's!
Had other commitments today, was hoping to drop past with my MAF OTR for UT but didnt get the chance :( (maybe thats why the beast was down on power!)
Raff
Not a very happy dyno at all :errr:
but the most important thing is that eveyone had a good time

Yes mate, its the new secret HSV weapon, also comes with two kids seats in the back!!!!
It was a good day and IMO the dyno work was done exceptionally well.
I reckon it was pretty much spot on to be honest.
Unfortunately one of my cats has sh!t itself, whether before or after the day, I dunno. If before, then I reckon I would've made much more power, maybe 0.4 kw to make it an even 207...
I must say I was impressed by the OTRs getting around, I may have to invest.
Finchy, good to see you've climbed aboard.

Well done Chev and the rest of your guys who helped out.
A very organised day with plenty of cars having a run.
I think the blokes managed to keep Ritchie out of next door too. Another good result.

Well I lost 40rwkw somewhere 269 to 230. Going to have to do some investigating.
Good day though (oh and thanks Krizto for the pic of my filthy engine bay!)

Bolt On's - I think we all know what they are
RR - Roller Rockers
Class dismissed :teach:
Well I lost 40rwkw somewhere 269 to 230. Going to have to do some investigating.
I reckon the air pump is the reason for the power drop - removal and a mafless tune should get the power back up :stick:

hmmmmm jezzab , i also was down approx 40 rwkw , i brought the car down just to see if it was running too rich or too lean , i expected to see some sort of power drop due to the car now running some very sticky semicomp tyres , but while the car was on the dyno the bbq caught fire and the workshop was full of burning plasic and sausage fat smoke so it was a compleat waste of time as all the smoke was being pushed into the engine by the cooling fan , i coulnt hang around for another run as i had a wedding to do , never mind ill get the car down there during the week and well check the afr's before the cats , dyno's can read high or they can read low all i care about is the cars state of tune , but a very well run day (probably the best ive been too from that point of view) and it was good too catch up with some of the members that i havnt seen for while , well done gary and the lads
Well Done to Chris and Scud, great effort, i have been on Chevs Dyno before, and i have 100% confidence his dyno reads fine, my car has made the same power there before, as on another dyno. Sorry i couldnt make it guys

Don't want to stir up any trouble but just wanted to mention that Jason from G&D's VT clubby has not been tuned at G&D.This car is driven by his partener & runs a cat back only & makes the sort of power(210rwkw's) that would be expected from a VT with this mod only.Jay only ran the car up late in the day for fun as he used to work at Chev's & wanted to see what it made.I'm sure we'll run it up on our dyno one day & extract some extra KW's out of it when he can steal it off his lovely lady Mel.Glad you all had fun,Garrys a great guy.

Im with you mate. Plenty of bolton cars and stock LS2 up in the 230ish range. Seems about right to me. If shootout was used it should be consistant on all Dyno Dynmanic's.....

Sounds like it was a good day, unfortunately i had to work, would have loved to have come down and put my car on the dyno as I haven't had the chance to put it on another dyno except for at the AME show, and with a recent tweek got 378kw at the treads. will be looking forward to your next Dyno day.

Does any know whether sticky tyres have any effect on a dyno?
Nice to see positive comments about the day

Hi
I can tell you a dyno reading can change by up to 20rwkw when I had my VX Clubby just simply by changing to a stickier race tyre. This was proven on 2 other dyno's!

Richard

the biggest loss ive heard of is 30rwkw  , my race car has spent more time on chevs dyno than on the track and i have 100 % confidence in his tuning and the dyno readings , as ive said earlier the actual rwkw im not fused about (my race car makes 275rwkw on chevs dyno but blows away cars at the racetrack that make 330 + on other dyno's) i use the dyno as a tuning tool only and the track is where its proven:driving:

My car also "mysteriously" lost 20rwkw (same dyno) when I fitted some semi comp tyres, but I thought it was more to do with the profile/width difference than actual traction on the rollers?

Thanks for the great morning Chev...
Had to get to Holden to buy a replacement bulb b4 spares shut and then to clean the beast ready for another wedding int he arvo.
Was somewhat disappointed with my result however saying that I too have heard of tyres playing a part in the rwkw result and must admit I have had 2 tyre changes since my initial dyno run after edit.
Bridgestone S0-3 235/40/18 = 234.7rwkw @ F1 Performance:booty:
Pirelli P-Zero 245/35/19 = 229.8rwkw @ F1 Performance:D
Hankook K104 245/35/19 = 213.? @ Chevs:hmmm:
Now while I dont believe there would be a loss of 16rwkw b/n the Pirelli's and Hankook's I will let you know how I go after visiting F1 on tuesday arvo.
Not really searching for the rwkw as the Grange still blows away many a mighty competitor at the lights even with its 1900kg BUT Chev commented that the car was running very rich in certain areas and may have been something to check on!
Will fill you in on Tuesday night.
Once again..Thanks Chev.
Three cheers for Chev....... and his crew.

Tyres will rob as much as 20rwkw - especially those like RE55s.
stop with the excuses guys. We've all been around long enough to know that results from one dyno to another and one day to another can be vastly different.
In relative terms the results look on the mark.

Just recently I saw an LS1 powered vehicle pick up over 50RWKW by changing the Mickey Thompson's it had on it back to the Goodyear Eagle street tyres it normally runs, nothing else was changed and the tests were performed within a few hours of each other.

Good numbers and hopefully everyone has a readout of their AFRs, power output is just a relative figure.

Hey, it was good so see some PD forced cars milling around.............
I heard a rumor that a certain PD blower manufacturer is looking to send all their cars to Frankston to be tuned lol......................
Thanks to all that attented the day. Very pleasing to see not one burnout. Boys in blue where impressed. Thanks to the crew for giving me a hand which made the day more professional. To the guys who wern't 100% happy, please ring me or drop into the shop to talk about air/fuel or power readings. Yes I DO TUNE LS1/LS2. I probed the tailpipe for ease on the day, but when I tune we always weld in a lamdba(oxy) plug in the exhaust just before the cats to get AFR's perfect. Thanks again. Cheers Chev.:D

Thanks to all the guys who helped get all the cars ready for chev to run up. The day wouldn't be complete without food so thanks go out to Pete for his BBQ skills. Also great to see Ken from Harrop drop in for a chat. I think the day went very smooth with only a few minor glitches. Hope to see you all at the next dyno day.

UPDATE!!!!!
Went to F1 today and put the car on their dyno only to find the car was running AFR in 11's and 213.8 which backs Chevs result up very well.
We reflashed my tune from the F1 computer and "Hey Presto" AFR in the 14's and 225.5rwkw.
We toyed around a bit with what little time was available and the AFR's are now around 13.4 and 226.9rwkw.
SO!!!!
Good old Holden Service must have flashed my edit sometime over the last 40,000k's and as the car is usually only doing airport tfrs I never relly noticed the loss. (esp with the 3.7's which really give it some sting anyways).
Alls well that ends well....
The Grange is going back next week for a mafless tune with the new pre cats edit and I will fill you all in as the results come through.
Cheers!!!

Aye Macca. What's the deal on dyno day being validated? Does this mean we are banned from more forum dyno days:eek: Great meeting Vic boys especaly Uncle Tone:headbang: Good to see LS1corpcruiser got his power, air/fuel back. Have a great evening all. Cheers Chev

Yes mate, that's it. ;)
Only an observation that a result from your dyno day has been independently reproduced at another dyno, on a different day. It serves to validate the results and the operation of your dyno!!
And while you keep runnin 'em, I'll keep coming to the dyno days, no worries.

THanks for the day chevs. first time i have had my car on the dyno and i was ecstatic!! Certainly wasnt expecting the result and initially thought it was a bit high but after reading through this thread it sounds like it would be right! Gotta say the difillipo extractors and exhaust are the goods! The only mod i have is the mcai so to pull a 211 is awesome. cant wait for my tune now.
looking forward to the next one.
what do you guys mean when you say its running a bit rich? does petrol play a big part in the result? I just ran the mobil 8000 which i reckon gives better power than the rest but not so good on fuel economy.
also i didnt notice anyone with an air charger or pod filter there. are these no good?
macca33
24-02-2006, 09:46 AM
G'day Scol, good to meet you the other day. Nice looking SS and good to see you were able to buy exactly what you were after.
There were a couple of pod filter setups there that I saw, they were the enclosed type pod cai. I must say though, the OTR cai is looking the goods for me, when I can afford one.
By too rich, it is when too much fuel is being delivered to the combustion process and it doesn't burn efficiently. If a little bit of fuel is taken out, the combustion process will be improved and with it, power will increase.
It doesn't have anything to do with the fuel grade, per se, simply that too much fuel is being introduced to the combustion chamber, than what is required for optimum combustion.
Of course, higher octane fuels allow the tuner to run an even more efficient state of tune, ie increase timing.
Cheers mate,
Macca
