Out of interest any one dropped a 350 Chev into a HQ? How do they go? What's it cost? What's involved?

Very simple and common mod. Castlemain Rod shop has off the self kits for it.

HQ's were actually available from the factory with a 350.
May take some searching but everything is available in genuine parts.
cheers

^^^^ What he said.
I'd be watching Ebay or the trading post. Even contact a wrecker and get 'em to ask on the hotline (if they can't help)...

IIRC the factory bolted a set of extenders to the 308 mounts. The small block chev is much smaller physically. 18" across the heads, against 22 for the Holden.
You can obtain everything in terms of mounting engine new/reproduction, CRS, Rare Spares, etc.
Ultimate cost depends on how the car is set up now, ie. is it already running a Chev pattern trans or appropriate gearbox, etc.
Similarly what rear end does it have / do you want?
There are some other minor/fiddly changes that come to mind (based on how the car stands today), I've a set of factory manuals and an original 350 HQ sitting around so sing out if need be.

Dropped a 350 into a HZ years ago, costs me about 5 grand be much more now
my car was originally a 202 so had to replace everything, was worth the effort
Good luck

Does anyone have any performance figures on the HQ 350? If you fit a 350 what's a good gearbox? From memory the old Holden manual gearboxes were nothing flash.

Your'e not going to be able to put ant of the "aussie" gear boxes in with a chev anyway - you will have to go for a muncie - saginaw - T350 - T400 unless you want to use adaptor plates etc.
Main parts you'll need are engine mount's which are the same on the chassis side but the second part is different to suit the chev (2 piece)
Tranny crossmember will need an adaptor plate or replacing with a new or repro one.
Tailshaft's - some will still fit - aussie 4 speed & T350 the same or get one made to suit the box and diff you choose - no biggie.
The rest is just wiring etc - dead simple swap - If I can do it anyone can believe me.
Big difference between a warmed over chev and a 253 or 308 power wise.

Or you could just drop an LS1 in. HG engine mounts and adapters from the Castlemaine Rod Shop :D

Hi,
My cousin has a T56 6 speed behind his 350 Chev HQ ute. I understand that it's a straight bolt-up job.
