Well my water pump has a very small leak in it and before it turns into a very big leak i would like to do something about it.
Holden quoted me about $700 for a new one so just looking for options.
i have read a bit about the davies craig electronic pumps but from what i understand they work in tandem with the stock water pump,is this correct?
if anyone else has had to replace the water pump can u let us know? Thanks:)
$700??
That's a big ticket item. Are there any aftermarket units around yet?
The BOC V6 was about the same if I remember correctly. Not quite as dear though. The aftermarket V6 jobs were around in 1994 6 yrs after the VN 1st appeared.

Seems some of the spare parts for these LS1's are pretty expensive,
$700 for a water pump, and in another tread the other day some one commented on a huge price for an alternator.

Youd better watch it with the davies Craig pump..... couldnt get it to work to my previous LS1... almost blew the motor with it .... starr performance couldnt get it to work on my car and neither could a couple of other places.... 3000 bucks later in labor and still having problems... went back to the standard Holden unit for the LS1......... be careful regardless of what the tell you!!!!!

you will probably need to use 2 DC EWP's on the LS1, we use 1 on the rotors and they can ~just~ keep up,

It may have worked on the rotors but definately will not work on the LS1.... just saving you the heart ache.... having 3 enginners that couldnt resolve it ... hmmm they cant have all been wrong!!! Think about those odds! Even Davies Graig's own engineer couldnt resolve it........ hmmm enough said????????

They make electric water pumps that actually work on ls1s:thumbsup:
Model no wp319 suitable for Gto/Holden in 35gpm (gals per minute ) or 55gpm
My boss has one on his c5 vette, installed it himself with no dramas.
Also do a search on google they have plenty of info on guys installing them
I dont think anyone in Aus is importing them but I could be wrong
They are @ $200 us - $266 A

we dont use the controllers after the engine is warmed up, they slow the pump down and dont give them the full 12v, we use the controllers for engine warm up and then once it is over 78deg we trigger the pump off the ecu to run flat out through a relay and by pass the controller, this gives the pump the full wack of power and makes a huge difference,
but in saying that i would not use 1 pump on the gen 3, i would use 2 of them, but then that will cost more than the maziere.

Two would have probably been perfect but remember I was following their instructions...... had they said two we would have tried it but they has so much pride to admit it wasnt going work on LS1... if you are gonig to sell your product then mention that it will only work with 2 of them on an LS1 and then prove it with research.

A mate of mine did that to his VX HSV fitted a davies craig electric pump I told him it was a bad idea but he didn't listen and cooked his donk.
I personally don't see any benifits on fitting an electric water pump.
I'd stick to the engine driven ones thanks. :)

exectly, agree 100%, i think now it states in the instructions that 2 pumps may be required for some engines. the main problem comes from the fact the internal size of the pump is too small and it needs to be made larger.
i had words with the MD of DC over there pathetic temp sensor for the controller and they were not interested in thinking about changing it or providing the specs so we could use a screw in sensor, now they provide a resistor so you can lower the temp the controller puts out its maxium voltage.

Not really been following the electric pumps at all in the states. recall when they first appeared. damn nice pce of gear.
if they are reliable not sure. don't like the idea of electric that much saves HP etc but when it stops your in a spot of bother. belt driven pumps at least they usually just start leaking but still work.
how about the evans pump futher down the page. high flow etc i think i would feel better running that.

$700 for a water pump . . hmm yes I am finding some spare parts very pricey!!
Does anyone know if you can buy just the pulley?? Mine has developed an very annoying squeek as if the bearings have gone dry. I was going to enquire about the price of a new pump this week/end . . but $700 to fix a leak is crazy . . option b was to see if you can buy juts the pulley as thats all that needs replacing.

Yea i just seen that evans one,it actually sounds like the more user friendly/everyday type of pump as i know if i put in an electric pump ill always be worried about it stopping and i wont know about it till its too late:flame:
at least with a belt driven one ill know if the engines runnin so is the pump.
its cheaper too:rolleyes: the only catch is it says you can only use evans waterless coolant with them:( wouldnt want to need coolant in a hurry:doh:

The Meziere would be about $800 fitted for around 7rwkw. Which should give a neat 0.1s ET on any car and also improve fuel economy. This is a worthwhile gain when you have done all the other mods. I am going to get one soon.
Plus keep the car at a more constant temperature which has to be good for the donk. You dont want your car oscillating up to 98C if you cant get out of it. Cooler coolant means a chance for more timing.

Just noticed the date of this thread so it may not be any help but when my water pump sprung a leak I replaced the O rings and it fixed it. about a dollar for the O ring (s) and 110 dollars for coolant
