View Full Version : An LS1 in a hot-rod.
A few of us went to the Nostalgia Drags on the weekend. One of the more interesting creations we saw was this. That's right, an LS1 powered Rod.

Could be a tad cleaner
I think thats the look the owner is after.
With this style of hotrod the owner wants a patina of age rather than a bling bling look. It's fairly popular in the states, mind you the owner may just be lazy. :p

Yeah I seem to recall they refer to that "look" as a "RAT ROD".
It's not really my thing, but each to his own......

The LS1 might be a great motor but f#%@ me it is ugly! Does suit a ratrod though I suppose.

It's actually hanging off the right hand side door and is what they used as a indicator back in those days.
If you can get a better pic of it (or look closer) you will notice a hand on the end of that rod.
BTW the black 34 belongs to Malcomsp off this forum.

Too many wires and hoses on the engine. Doesn't suit the era of the rest of the car.
Yours is a much better layout Mal, very nice indeed!

I love the look of the old, old school Rat Rods, but the purpose of building these in the states is to build them with old school parts. Seeing an injected motor in this thing ruins the whole theme IMO.

I agree these Rat Rods are put together in the aim of making it look like it was built from junk yard parts.
A late model EFI egine just doesnt seem to go with the rest of it does it.
I would love to see what it sounds like with those straight pipes though.

Love the skull and cross bones behind the grill.
The ls1 looks a treat the way it has been left. :argue: All nice and dirty like.
The zoomies might make her run like a bit of a pig though.
