Driving into work today, drove past a VT Exec on the side of the road with wha looked like 17" mags on the front and 14" HQ-WB black steel rims with those HQ Statesman dog-dish hubcaps on them. Would 14" HQ-WB rims fit on a VT Commodore? Handling would be nice I assume. I'd say it was another of those young kids who bought the rim/tyre package from Bob Jane (etc) and has worn out a set of 17"/18" tyres and now can't afford to replace them. I see a lot of that at the GoodYear store wherre my Dad works ..

Yeah, HQ onwards had the same stud pattern as the commodore, dunno aboot the offset though. Anyway it'd look crap! Good for burnout tyres.

14's? They'd get done for that if caught wouldn't they? Since they are lower spec (size/load capacity) than what's on the tyre placard (15's).

HQ/chev is 4 3/4" pcd which is 120.65mm and a commy's is 120mm pcd,so NO they aren't the same and not to mention 7/16 (11.11mm) to 12mm wheel studs.......
Hell dodgy (young person speak)

See lots of these idiots around Melb's northern suburbs too. 19s on the front and 14s or 15s on the back. It is expensive to do burnouts on 19 inch tyres you know...
Apparently, driving sanely is out of the question. They'd rather look stupid.

Would 14" wheels even fit over the VT brakes?

Don't be bringin' logic into the argument man.
What are you doing?
But I think they'd fit over the rear brakes easily enough. If not, then 15s would.

they would if you do the HQ drum brake conversion too.
speaking of which - does anyone want to buy the drums from the vh so they can do a retro-tech swap?

Unless the bloke was driving around with no rear brakes I'd say they do fit.
Hmm, 14s on the back and no rear brakes.
That's a recipe for ... :burnout:

Yep , but they will bolt up . You often see commodore rims on HQ-on holdens ,sure you can make them fit but the stress is the silent killer, if you look carefully they are often missing a stud or two which have snapped:nyuk:

HQ run around +6 offset whereas commodore is about +43. So the wheel would be further out towards the guard. so the brakes might not actually fit under the wheel but moreso beside it !!
Its a dodgy dodgy practice

Too right, I did this many moons ago with a HQ, 15" persuit rims, i didn't snap the studs, just bent them, could never get the balance right for some reason......
