I've just got myself a spare time project to play with when the new shed gets built in 5 weeks time.
Its a 1982 Camaro Z28, 5 Litre carby engine, 4 Speed Manual, LSD Diff (Ratio ??) Factory 15x7 Alloys, Air, Pwr Str, black exterior/blue grey seat trim, its an un-modded all original car. It may need a respray, will see how it cleans up first, overall some TLC will tidy it up.
Its not LS1 powered but still a Chevrolet all the same and will post pics next weekend after pickup.

dadem0n - as mentioned earlier, pics will be posted Saturday week when I pick it up.
Price paid for the car was less than the cost of a RHD conversion.
The car has been owned by the same person for the past 16 yrs, rego expired 2 yrs ago as its been garaged and un-used.
Until yesterday I'd never been for a drive in a Camaro etc and believe I picked up a bargain.

Put a Gen III in it!

As for putting Gen3 in it, thats not going to happen, as I'd like
to keep it as close to original as possible.
Heres a few pics to satisfy those wanting to see it, these were
taken by the seller.
Will post better ones Saturday.

We changed pick up day to today (Tuesday)
Got a permit to drive it home and it drove well for its age.
The drive home from Sunbury to Rochester was good, as it let me know
if there were anything needing attention, yes I've got some work to do and theres nothing really major, just fiddly crap.
Heres some pics taken at home this arvo.

Good one! Eighties cars are a bit cheezy, but Camaro/Firebird were still flying the flag in the USA when everyone else had really dropped the ball. It should be easy to get a few extra ponies from that 305 if you aren't too concerned about originiality ;)
From the looks of it, it could be a great daily driver as-is .. not a project!

The plan is to get the Z28 looking good again, it only needs some TLC, so a good clean/detail will be first off. The black duco is faded, but not stuffed according the x-panel beater/painter I know. The light weight bonnet, bumper, lower trims and left guard definately need respraying.
The interior needs some work, the dash pad needs a reco, new carpet and some door seals/rubbers. The car is staying close to original, I like it as it looks now.

I would of liked an earlier one, but they're pulling way too many dollars for vehicle condition and this was going at the right price. The 305 was rebuilt in 01 with a mild cam, new clutch and LSD had done prior to it being garaged. You could make it a daily driver now, but if I did that the required lil jobs would never get done.

What's the performance and handling of the car like compared to your VT II Wagon?

Yes, although you can never really tell from colour pics, that looks like a fairly clean, original car. But those 305 engines never did it for me. As some-one has already said, "there is no substitute for cubic inches". Not much good having something that looks the goods if you're blown away at the next set of lights by a V6 commodore! so, yes I'd be looking at fitting a bigger & more powerful engine, & it would be possible to go for a 350 of similar vintage, if you didn't like the LS1 idea. A little more torque would also make it nicer to drive.
Cheers, Pickles.

For a full smog equipped engine it's performance is acceptable to me, the things not a slug. The handling is somewhat different, these things must be nose heavy as the rear tries to step when pushed. Think the Z28 is the better of the two, even though the wagon has FE2 with Monroe/KYB shocks.
In the gooooooooo dept, the Z28 has the legs as of 3rd gear, then again its been 8yrs since I've driven a V8 manual any distance or had fun.

Yes its an original car daily used car.
I know the 305's not a powerhouse but this has a mild cam which has helped it. The looks v performance thing doesn't worry me what so ever, I bought because its a vehicle I've wanted knowing the engine lets it down.
Re-powering with bigger of the same isn't a prob, as I have a small shed full of SBC parts including a complete 4bolt 350 belonging to Wally01 (my younger bro) should it be required.

Now let me think here with what i can remember whats in your shed.
1X4 BOLT 4 INCH BORE BLOCK Oh thats mine aswell.
1 327 in pieces ,not sure if you still have that one if you have ,it has a steel crank of the small journal variety .
2 X 283 Blocks one relieved on the bottom of the cylinders.
1 X 307/327 Crank Cast iron .Lg Journal stick that in my 4 bolt and lets have a 327 .
And there could even be a 307 block lying around aswell.
Better still take the small journal steel crank from the 283 and drop it in the 327 Block and lets have a 302 ,drop on the power pack heads that you have and a nice cam with a holley and there we go .

Or as you say use my 350 if you were to do that you would need a bloody 205 of AV GAS as a petrol tank or just take that nice cam out of it ,if it was me leave that cam in it then you would turn some heads..

Your correct bro, everything is there except the 307 block, but dad gave me the early 302 Hydraulic Performance Camshaft. Gotta admit I overlooked the 302ci package, when the shed goes up it will sort out the eng parts time.
The Z28 has the carport now and the wagon has no cover.
