Did you read the Wheels Handling Olympics?
Just a few surprises in their report:
Not too much difference between the SS and the HSV on some counts.
The Magna 380 comparable to the Commode V8's in some areas.
I suppose the obvious point is that it's not easy for a large heavy car to compete with lighter cars on tight tracks. That point is rammed home by the GTP (or whatever they call themselves these days) brigade. The HSV's mop the floor with the turbo 4 cyls on the open tracks and have trouble on the tighter tracks.
