View Full Version : vx ss series 2
H i we have bought a vx ss series 2 with 37000 on the clock from holden the other day.when we reverse down our driveway there is a clunking noise as we go down our driveway.we have taken it back to holden 2 times and they say there id no noise in the diff or gearbox and they checked while i was there.the noise only happens occasionaly but never forwards or around the corners.we have the 3 months warranty from the dealer or 5000 ks so they have to pay.they gave us the 3 year but it only covers $1000.
any ideas would greatly appreciated.

You should actually get two noises: the first is a self check on the ABS (which you can feel throught the brake pedal) and the second is self check for the throttle relaxer for the traction control. Relax and enjoy:driving:
there is the sound of metal clucking and it was bad yesterday we put it back into park and then started to reverse again and the noise was gone.it does not do it all the time that is what is a bit of a worry.

You could take it somewhere else for an opinion then go back to the dealer with what you know.

Is it only in the mornings? Or can it happen anytime through out the day.

As the above post says there are 2 distinct clunks or clicks in these cars,
start the car and drive forward or back very slowly with just a very light throttle and you will hear the 2 noises as the ABS self tests and the throttle relaxer, check and see if they are the 2 noises you are hearing.
It may be just those you are hearing.
the sound happens any time of the day and only in reverse but not all of the time.we took and got the diff looked at and there was nothing wrong with the diff changed oil only a couple of minute pieces of metal "normal according to the mechanic".the next thing to test is the gearbox.holden say they won't look at anything until they hear the noise.

the diff in my Berlina clunks, and dad's Caprice makes some diff noise too.. it's probably called Holden engineering as opposed to BMW engineering...don't be too hard on the diff.

It is probably the cone's in the limited slip just letting go, the diff might be a fractoin over tight. My vx ss II makes that type of noise, it should probablly happen when driving forward as well?
All sorted out all we did was change the oil and the noise is gone.holden would not even change the oil under warrnaty.

They will only service according to the manual.
Off the top of my head ie Auto trans service is at 110,000 Km intervals, diff I have no idea.

That would be a first. Holden supplying a diff that worked.
