Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone has used these tyres from Bob Janes. According to the website " These high performance tyres are made exclusively for us by one of the world's leading tyre manufacturers....Xenon Z1 represents great value for money" The 235/45R17's are $169- each and the 235/40R18's are $209- each.
Any info would be appreciated - who makes them, grip, noise etc.
Cheers Delftssute.

Apparently they are being made by Kuhmo.
I'm considering getting some for the CV8, but not too sure yet. Thinking I should spend a bit more for something that I know is OK.

The local BJ dealer told me that they were more of a family car tyre than performance. I asked if they were aimed at the Nankang side of the market. He said they were better than NK but not quite as good as a Falken ST-115, Bridgestone GridIII and no where near S03s, etc. So I would probably say a tyre with reasonable dry grip, so-so wet grip, fairly hard compound and good lifespan. Not something most of us are looking for.
Once again, this is from what I was told, not from personal experience.

Hi All, the tyres are made by Kumho in Korea using their sister branded Marshall. The tread design are the old Marshall 717 pattern. It is about 8 years old and has been renamed the Bob Jane Xenon Z1 available in 5 different sizes. They are a directional performance tyre and well priced.
Hope this helps:banana:

Exactly right, we sell quite a few of these at our t mart and get pretty good feedback from customers on wear grip and overall performace, I would recomend them for everday normal driving.
Also they are a better tyre than the nankangs, but thats not hard!

I got some of these for my excel (195/50R15) at $89 ea, they aren't too bad, seem to have good dry grip and the wet grip isn't that bad either. They have A ratings for grip and traction and from what I was told they need to pass certain tests to get these ratings.
They are atleast very good tyres for the price, probably as good as tyres nearly twice their price.

Being a retailer of these tyres, would you consider yourself an everyday normal driver (with a 244rwkw Ute) and would you let the missus drive your ute in the wet with those tyres on?
I only ask this as I am in the market for 2 new rear tyres (VTII Exec 216rwkw) and the missus drives the car more than I do. Currently looking at BFGoodrich ...... for around $200 per tyre.

Not sure about the Z1's now. I gonna play sheep and go for the Maxxis Victra-Z1's. Living in Melbourne city and with the amount of scattered rain we get, I'm more interested in max wet weather performance.
The last Wheels tyre review was a good read and the MA-z1's did pretty well for the price. Got a quote from one of the big retailers for $269 each fitted. Need 2 for the rear, the munro's like driving on ice at the moment.
Does that sound like a good price for 235/40 18's? Anyone driven the Z1's in the wet yet? Any other recommendations for a good wet weather tyre?
Cheers ;)

I found the Z1s to grip pretty well and controlling the amount of drift was easy on a typical large rear drive sedan, Im not sure how much Wheels advertised them as, but the tread pattern looks similar to a Eagle F1 with directional water channels.
Does it sound like a good price? Well if you drive on bald tyres and go off the road and hit something, compare how much that costs to the tyres and Id say the tyre price wins every time.
As for wet weather tyres, go for anything with a directional tread pattern and large grooves to channel water away from the centre of the tread.

Put a full set on about 6 mnths ago have been v/happy with them so far good dry grip not so sure about the wet as we don't have to many wet days here, they are also a lot quieter than the P Zero's that i had on before these and for$200 fitted a good deal.

Given the fact that your wife is driving this more often and you give it a squirt sometimes, I would't put them on. The tread pattern don't forget is around 9 years old and developed for Korean roads. No camber and very limited speed zones. Everyone will have different opinions based on how they treat their tyres. Buy for quality and not price because you will regret it later. They might be cheaper than other known brands but what is your wifes life worth? I would recommend:
: Kumho KU31 - good performance tyre and well priced.
: Pirelli PZero Nero - sticky tyre for performance cars, expect $$$ but worth every cent.
Only my opinion!!:yup:

We recently replaced the tyres on my wifes 03 Camry with 225x55x16 Bob Jane Xennon Z1s , the car is nicer to drive with these tyres and has considerable less tyre noise than with the stock Bridgestones that came standard on the vehicle = $660 fitted ballanced and wheel alignment done .

In the end I went the toyo trampio tpg
http://www.toyo.com.au/TPG%20page.htm
Similar tread pattern to both the Zenon Z1 and the Maxxis Victra apparently they've just had a price drop so I got them for $230 each fitted.
Only done about 800ks in them but they are a hell of a lot stickier than the Bridgestone potenzas that were replaced, especially in the wet.

What price did you pay for them ?
$230 each, fitted, 235/40/ZR18 from Tyrepower North Melbourne.
I found an old website that has them retailing for $460 each, so it looks like they've had a 50% price drop.

How are they for noise?
I've got Kumho 711s on the front and they are sooo noisy at lower speeds. They just grumble from 20-50km/h.:cussing:
Can't wait to move these to the rear soon.

They are actually really good, but I think the monaros have extra soundproofing so it's hard to tell. I think the softer silica compound helps with the noise.
I've got Silverstones on the front (on the car when I bought it) and I can definitely hear them, especially over 90klm/hr.
I'm extremely happy with the Toyos. After the next rotation I'm replacing the Silverstones with the Toyos. Still early days yet, I'll post some more info at 2000ks

I'm also a fan of the KU31's. An awesome tyre for the $$$'s.
I got a set of these on (even though I asked for Maxxis but thats another story!!) and I gave them a good test on the way out to Adelaide river in the NT (open limits). They hook up no problem at all and the noise is bugger all.
Around the suburbs they hook up well cornering too. Acceleration is good, they do spin a little throwing it into second but its nothing to really worry about.
Now just to see how long they last.
