The last pic was taken at the former "Amaroo Park" - Does any one know where this track used to go. I beleive it curled around the back of the photograph with the main straight being the road I am on currently...?

yep, the direction the camera is pointing was the main straight, it then doglegged before the cliff, then another left square turn near the end of the cliff, went back towards you on the other side of the field, then cut in left aiming at the base of that hill youre on, then cut back right and looped around the hill, then back up over it behind the camera and down. ripper of a track, unfortunately nimbys saw to its demise.

Well I live about 5 mins over that hill in the last pic.

Can't work out where the corners are? It's all different

Well yeh guys,

I did most of the work myself minus the painting and fibreglass filling. I fitted the quaters with a mate + the lights and the bar (FIRST TIME).

I originally wanted to go 100% VZ hwoever at the time I couldnt find any VZ bars below $1000.00 + so I got the VY one for stuff all and thought stuff it ill put the calais lights in for peanuts and had the parker dents filled and remade the backing mounts to suit the VT REO! worked out nearly a grand cheaper to do it this way but a little upset still that I didnt fork out the extra cash to keep it 100% VZ.

Who cares anyway it will never look 100% as the back end is still VT anyhow.

I kept the VT bonnet and hinges as there will be a monaro bonnet going on soon too. The hinges will line up perfectly. Advice from panel beaters was that the VT bonnet will NOT FIT. I took the gamble and closed it for the first time prefectly.

Definitely confuses the crap out of people.

Im stoked with the results. Had to do some fiddling with the front bar with some help from some professional bodyfitters towards the end as i couclnt take a 5mm sag out from beneath the headlights. They packed up the reo and it was sweet as.

Definitely worth the hassles!

Jem.

I really like how you filled the little park light holes in the bar and fitted HSV/Calias headlamps cause i'm not a fan of the little dangly parkers on the VY headlight asembly.

Nice work mate.

Are you gonna fit VY/Z side mirrors????

sorry to drag up an oldish topic

I suppose the tracks fairly much gone these days, judging by your last pic and by the confusion as to where you are theres absolutely nothing left to indicate it was once a track.

I remember going there once only, many years now back when I was about 7 or 8, but it wasnt for motor racing, it was to "help" as best I could to put up a mesh fence with my grandfather who had been given the job of putting up the security fences ... as I later found out so they could start all sort of constuctions.

I still remember it clearly though, we entered past a ticket booth, went along side pit lane and where we spent the few days you could clearly see the rear of the pits which were signed up with Nissan and the like. We had a slick tyre out in the middle of the bushy bit where the fence was going which I used as seat.

I still remember it, its a shame I never had the chance to see any racing there.

I'm just curious, a tad off topic too but one day me and dad will get around to going to Catalina too. From what ive read here and heard elsehwere you cant get your car on there (bikes can but their chased out), but you can get in to go for a walk ... unlike Amaroo though its still got bits and pieces that indicate it was once a race track. Another track Im not old enough to have seen any racing on but I like researching the history of these tracks, I find it interesting and a shame we no longer use them.

catalina can be and is raced on by some historic car clubs still. wlaking this track will take your breath away, you can feel the v8's that used to pound along its tarmac, come inches from its wooden fences (no runoff at all)

its just a stunning track.

easy to find, its behind the swimming pool/park in katoomba. i want to go back there again, its bloody awesome.

I was thinking a little while back that it might make for a nice sunday arvo drive to catalina, just get a couple of us guys together, meet at penrith, head west to the track, maybe grab some lunch or afternoon tea somewhere in katoomba, head back. All of a couple of hours just to get out of the house.

It'd be good to go for a little bit of a walk and talk along the track, get to meet up with old friends, make some new friends from the forum along the way, that sorta thing. I only mention this because I love the skid pan days, the guys from this forum that attend are a wealth of information.

Just out of curiosity would anyone be interested? I would obviously, if there was some interest I'd look at going through the proper channels, announcing in the main forum for interested peoples ... but just to get it started while we're sort of on this topic?

Sorry to drag the topic away from ya blue-ss :p
