Let's start off with disclosing what kind of motorbike you have/ride :D

My bike is a 1995 Kawasaki ZZR1100, modified extensivley with pistons/rods/cam etc etc. :D Makes around the 150HP at the rear wheel :D

Way cool bikes the old ZZR1100-Ds.. I had quite a few of them from new.

Mega fat by today's hyperbike standards, but it had a build quality that many new bikes still can't match.

I threw one down the road at Barbagallo Race way at over 240kmh (coming down the hill). Farken hurt I'll give ya the tip.

No bike at the moment, but my last was a 2001 R1.

I've had Suzi GSXR1100's, K and L models as well as Kwaka GPZ/GPX 600's.
In time I'll get a bike again, probably a ZZR11 or a Honda CBR1100XX Blackbird. Really miss those runs up the Old Pacific Hwy. :yup:

Ooh look a motorbike thread! In a motorbike forum!! Holy sh!t!!

2000 ZZR600 here - two tone blue. Dark metallic blue highlights with the primary colour pretty much like the Ford Blueprint colour.

Saving $$$ for a 'zorst and dyno jet kit!

HAD a '85 GPZ600R for a year or so (about 9 years ago!).

Broke it once (write off), bought it back, fixed it up again, made a small profit then a few months later got cleaned up by a tandom trailor (being toed by a crusty old XE) who pulled across in front of me.

As much as I'd love another, I doubt it's ever gonna happen, it's just too damn dangerous on the roads today.....with all these LS1's an all :p

Then XR 200
Then KLR 600

Hey here is a Blast from the past: My first Road registered, Bike was a 1968 a65 650 Bsa,Twin, It had a glass tank and clipons( handle bars) it was a cafe racer mock up with mostly Paul Dunstall gear, it was easy to remember the Reg, PS 013, post script information (013) qldrs will understand what I mean.
And the last was an F1 750 (cb 750) four & of course 810 yoshimira. kit. Just sold recently to a friend and Collecter.

And the bikes I had inbetween such as an earlier Gold flash 650 pre unit BSA, Chopper, Stars and stripes, and then an 'Electric start' (WOW) Triumph Trident 750

I had some pretty Nifty 2 strokes, but I really doubt that anyone here would have heard of them:lol: I will try one... how about a 500 'R' Model Suziki Titan??

These 2 strokes were not really appreciated much around where I came from lol

I always get a twinge of regret when I sell a bike but that Duke was special, completely rebuilt from the ground up at a cost of $18000 in 1992. it was gorgeous and great to ride...:bawl: Had an Imola tank 40mm pumper carby's, Imola cam, the deepest silver paintwork, Italian leather on the seat, genuine conti's and Borrani rims...cost a fortune to buy back these days.

Anyone got any experience with Super Motard's. Whats the go? KTM (640) or Other?

Cheers,

SuteS

I had a WR400 turned into a SuperMoto for me by SA Dirtbikes, just sold it though. Compared to the KTM version it's a bit harder (suspension, vibes, power delivery) but the KTM is a purpose built job by the factory so they deliberately went for the softer version than say a 525 EXC with Supermoto bits. The KTM is an excellent bike though, perfect for dicking about in the city, honestly they're the most fun you can have without fear of losing your license for speeding. You may lose it for doing monos and stoppies however.

Suzuki make a version from their DRZ400 which is pretty cool and of course there's the Husqvarna 570 SM which is going back more toward a competition off-roader with the SuperMoto bits banged on (excellent bike though, about 70BHP), most European manufacturers of dirtbikes do a SuperMoto version (Husaberg, CCM, etc) and Aprilia is even bringing out their V-twin version.

you can always do what I didn and make one yourself, about $2000 for wheels and $1500 for the front brake and caliper on any bike you like.

First and only road bike I have owned.
K4 Suzuki GSXR600. In the "rare" black and orange.
Only mod so far is the Yoshi can ($400 delivered from USA / Ebay). More than enough power for a novice like me.
Bling includes a fender eliminator (not pictured) & black screen.

K4 600s seem to be pretty rare in any colour but that's definitely the only black/orange one I've ever seen. When I bought my K4 1000 it took almost a year to see another identical one, now you see them everywhere :( Bugger.

The K4 thou was/is a real sweet looking bike. From memory, it only came out in the blue/white didn't it? But the blue was a few shades of blue or something !?!?!

Yeah, it is a fairly unique colour. But I figured black never goes out of fashion. That was kind of why I got it. I did like the blue Yammie 04 R6 and the 05 Kwaka ZX6R (and no offence to owners out ther) but every second bike on the road was one of these, To date, I am yet to see another blk/org bike like mine on the road. Which is kind of nice having something uncommon.

And even more rare, the above photo is with the K5 black gixxer6 in the background.

Have a look in the current issue of Motorcycle Trader, someone in SA is selling an RVF 750, bargain too considering rarity and original price. I'd like to see a couple of Yamaha R7's getting sold but I think every single one went racing.

The K4 thou was/is a real sweet looking bike. From memory, it only came out in the blue/white didn't it? But the blue was a few shades of blue or something !?!?!

The K4 thou came out in blue/white, black/grey and yellow/grey.
I posted a pic of my black/grey K4 thou earlier in this thread.

Mate, go to www.photobucket.com and sign up there, tey host the pics for you. It's really easy the website takes you through step by step. You loadthe pics directly from your computer. Then come back here and reply in this thread and use the [IMG] option from the photobucket site. Much simpler than using the method describedin threads elsewhere.

Or PM me and I'll give you my email and I'll host 'em.

Just traded this (after pretending to look like I knew what I was doing for a couple of years):

to wobble around on a big, fat old sportstourer (not modified - yet  ):

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y214/Nawdy/blackbird_06_silver_600x450.jpg

Also got an RM250 to stuff around on (if it doesn't kill/injure/maim me first). Why do we persist in buying modified motorcycles when they seem to go fast enough initially? At least I didn't mod this one - it was already done

Had a few bikes in my time, with a few already mentioned within this thread.

http://w1.bikepics.com/pics/2004/01/04/bikepics-94027-full.jpg

The novelty factor soon wore off and I traded it in on a FZR-1000T.

I had this 4 days the ended up having a big off... killed it and my leg.

6 months later is my 1st R1

http://www.haroc.1337thing.com/ls1/OneManEmpire/99_R1_side.jpg

Officer plod said i was going a bit quick one day (138 in a 60) so the nice man with the wig said, you can walk for 6 months, I classed this as my off season... :headbang:

Next R1 is my current ride, It has 10,021 kays on it and all stock except for the fork legs. Had them anodised in the current R1 gold. Looks killer I think.

Ok lads, I'm gunna open this thred up for something different...

You can check out my thread to find out what I've got. But here's what I find unbelievable amusing.....

I come across many lads that buy the latest and greatest in technology (particularly the 1 litre bikes) and rave about all the mods and how much horsepower it pumps out and how they want more. Well here's the deal 98% of riders I know (including myself) can't even utilise the power they already have to its fullest ability! Hell, unless you love pulling 3rd-4th gear wheelies at 150km+ what's their game??? Every new model out there for the past few years you struggle to keep the front wheel down when accelerating hard from a set of lights!!!

Sure, you can do mods to make your bike look unique, sound different, improve throttle response and smoothness throughout the rev range, but seriously what is the go with this type of talk. All comments and critisisms welcome!

This critisism is not based at dragsters as that's a total different game....and wheelbase!

I bought an '05 ZX-10R just over a year ago and rolled it out the door for $17,800, it came with a free Kawasaki "Racing kit for track days" which included Michelin Pilot Power tyres, Goodridge braided front brake lines, AFAM gold alloy rear sprocket, pick up knobs for a race stand and an Akrapovic Ti muffler :D

To roll a stock 10R out the door you could get it for low $17K I am sure maybe less, don't forget about insurance though as thats where it hurts, if under 30 be sitting down when you get a quote ;)

I must admit I actually went out to buy the new ZX-6R but the free track kit on the 10R sealed the deal, by the time I would have replaced the equivalent bits on the 6R it worked out more expensive, but after riding a big bike don't assume a 600 will handle better, the big bikes are so light and small now they are almost identical in 600's, they just require a lot more care with the throttle :deal:

KTM300EXC for the dirt - two stroke weaon - too easy to hurt myself on. Ive started riding in the dirt to improve my road riding as Ive heard countless times that its excellent cross training but its also a great way to hurt yourself.

Can't ride proper sporties as after an hour it feels like you've been in a pub fight, two sprained wrists, punched in the kidneys and kicked in the nuts. I had OPPYLOCK (my brother) con me into buying a road bike, so I went out and bought an '04 Kawasaki Z750, he told me this would be good bike to learn on as I had never ridden a road bike and didn't have a licence.
Needless to say I sold the bike with just 800km/h on the clock before I killed myself, just got to 200km/h way too quick, I'll stick to 4 wheels.
How do you guys keep your licences on these things?

Currently have a YFZ-450 ATV.

Live in the NT is a good start:yup: Home to Darwin in 1hr 45min on average, and thats 330k's at around 180~200km/h in the SS though. No good for the bike. Tyres don't last too long on straight roads up here. Usually squared in the centre, with the new tyre knobs still on the sides. 4000k's out of Pirelli's isn't good on the wallet...:(

My most recent 2 wheel adventure was a Kawasaki Vulcan classic with the 1600cc donk, and a set of Cobra dump pipes.

Harley looks, Harley sound, Kwaka performance.

The missus put a premature end to that spurt of fun though..... :(

I saw a corner in the NT once. Just head straight for six hours, you can't miss it...
In all seriousness, are you using dual compound rubber? 4000k's aint a hell of a lot.

How do you find the handling on the TL. I rode my mates a couple of times and it nearly killed me. Seemed like it wouldn't turn in and when it did it was a bastard to pick back up again. He said he didn't have a problem and that it was always like that. We put a little more tire pressure in it and this helped a bit but it still felt like it had a mind of its own.
Great power delivery from that awsome donk!

It is harder to turn in than most sport bikes these days, but once she's cranked over, she's rock solid stable. You do need a bit more body english to ride the TLR,but it's just a matter of getting used to it.The engine is awesome,as any V-twin owner will tell you.Enough power to be exciting, but not enough to get you in trouble like these new missiles around now.
I had a track day at Barbagallo on Sunday and had an absolute ball!!!

One question. Being riding dirt bikes for 10 years, never touched a decent sports road bike before. As I'm getting older and with the drought making group rides not as fun anymore I'm thinking of throwing the leg over to the asphalt.

What bike and where should I start?

VXII SSimo

That is a question with many variables. Size, brand, style, colour...the list goes on. Everyone will tell you how good their bike is, and they probably have some merit to them all. Final decision...

Test rides, magazines, talk to people with a variety of bikes...it's yours to make!

Good luck, there's a lot out there :yup:

1981 a 750 4 from Port Headland to Perth. Hit a rock in Marble bar so rode with a flat front tyre to Newman for repairs. It rode fine untilyou had toslow down.

Some amazing bikes on here - thanks for sharing. For what it's worth I ride a BMW R1150RT-P daily and am a few weeks away from a brand spankers R1200RT-P. Never owned my own bike though - it's all I can do to get a nice Commodore past my bride let alone a bike as well!

Accessories or mods - none really unless you count say a Ka Stalker Dual, a Ballinger, a LTI 20-20 and an Autocite...sorry.

The BMW is a lovely bike to ride for several hours everyday , especially on summer days when out in just short sleeves. Also, I find the BMW's just so forgiving especially when 'loosing' front or back tyres, but what I'd really like to get my hands on is a K1200GT if they ever designate it to a P model.

Cheers, Craig

heres a test for all you riders

wait until its a 40 degree day

then go and lie on the road (in a safe spot) for 20 mins

if you are burning or get burnt you arnt dressed well enough

until youve laid under a bike pinned an unable to move you dont realise the value of a leather jacket good boots and jeans or leather pants
and the relative ease with which skin blisters

last week I saw a motorcyclist with his son on the back of his bike
was a 40 deg day he was dressed in jeans and jacket and boots
his son was in shorts and sandals , i can hear him now -- i wasnt going fast
I wasnt going far ...etc etc
think b4 you ride , ride safe

...you dont realise the value of a leather jacket good boots and jeans or leather pants...

I hear you and agree despite the fact that I never wear a jacket unless cold and never wear leather dacks when it is warm-hot. I'll say this though, you see some fellas at work met with a lass the other day, said to be an expert on m/c prangs and safety apparel.

They were trying to find something that allows you to be cool and protected - apparently it doesn't exist. You are either going to be hot and protected or cool and unprotected. She said that anything on the market espousing to be protective and allowing you to remain cool is an exercise in marketing - who knows...

In any case, she said that crash analysis has shown a rider slides on the road surface for between 6-7 secs on average. She also said a pair of jeans lasts 0.6sec on average. Clearly jeans do not provide the level of protection that I and most others always thought they did. Merely FYI.

What was the ZX12R like as a ride Gareth? I'm contemplating a 2000 model at the moment.
as an owner of a 2000 ZX12r
(build Nov 2000 first reg March 2001)
that A model 12r is one awesome bike

some say too fast too sharp
but then again any +300kmh sub10 sec bike is gunna be
(the A model is the unrestricted one)

The 12 will keep up with the current range of litre bikes on the road
and is a far better bike on the road than most of the litre bikes...its a hypo tourer par excellence
The litre bikes kill it on the track though coz its weight counts against it (205 kg v avg 180-190)
comfy to ride great suspension (once fettled properly)
and no real vices.
Some luv the 6 pot brakes becoz of their feel and grip
(some prefer the later radial brakes on the B model)

its simply the best bike i have owned

there are only 2 things you might wanna do if not done
to make a great bike better...go to a 190 series rear to
replace the 200 (if the bike has one). The difference
is amazing!
and if you are going to do a bit of city riding
replace the front cog with one..1 tooth down
just makes the bike nicer to ride in traffic
(and accelerate quicker :yahoo: )

oh
...and here's mine

How do you find the riding position? I'm looking to get away from the "stretch to the bars then have all your weight on your wrists" type of thing. Is it a bit of a reach over the tank?

Cheers bud.

no worries...

in answer.....no
its a lot more comfortable than a '05 ZX6 or ZX10r
which are very arse up...weight on wrists as you lean
forward..The ZX12 is not like that, you have a bit of a lean forward
(as do most bikes) but I can ride from home to PI
...about 1½ - 1 3/4hrs without a break
..no problems with sore arse, wrists or cramping
I am 5'10 and seem to fit it nicely
I also have a few mates who ride them..up to about 6'2 they are
and they find them comfy.....one rides from Sydney
to PI for MotoGP and the Supers, no probs
cept for scraping the bellypan now and then ;)

do what I did..test ride one
I was impressed so I bought one

What was the ZX12R like as a ride Gareth? I'm contemplating a 2000 model at the moment.

Mine was a 01 model. It was incredibly fast thats for sure. But I prefer something a bit smaller so I can throw it around a bit in the hills

They are very easy to ride due to the capacity and torque. But it was a bit too big for me to really get into it.

I currently ride a 2005 Honda CBR1000RR fireblade, prior to that I had a 2002 Honda CBR1100XX Super Blackbird, a 1997 Honda VTR1000 Firestorm, a 1995 Kawasaki ZX6R and a 1993 ZXR250. I had a big stack on the Gillies Range in Cairns on the 250 and got run over by a car, dislocating my wrist and fracturing my pelvis, but it didn't stop me getting back onto bikes.

Here is my homepage at bikepics:

I can't post links yet because I haven't posted 10 threads, so hope you can understand the address.

There are some good pics there of me laying on the side of the road after the accident.

Hi guys,

finally got around to taking some pics of my bike.

not sure if they will turn out ok but i'll give it a go.

Its a 2002 R6 (last of the carby)
goes well and handles well.

lost track of how much ive spent on it but it has most bolt ons, but done tastefully i think. looks stock apart from the exhaust (full micron race system)

Just saving for some head work whilst my mechanic does the major service for valve clearances etc.

Sure beats looking at a dining table.

I ve got a 05 Honda CBR1000RR, stock other than Yoshi pipe and tinted screen, took it down to Phillip Island Yesterday and practacly got washed out!, I fond it pretty hairy riding around the island in the wet, dont know how those superbikes and moto GP guys do it, anyone got some times they have done a lap of the island in?, i know moto gp guys are around 1:30, Im told anything under 2min for a street rider/bike is half reasonable

very first bike was a brand new Honda SL 70, next a couple MX bikes ( suzuki and montesa )....then got my lisence and went...
yammy 350 RD
honda 750/4
kawka 900 ( fastest road bike at the time 132mph )
...then to the harleys...
1980 super glide shovel
1998 evo softy
2001 twin cam softy 95'" twin disc front end lowered etc
and current bike is a loonnnggg time build..

1957 panhead chopper, straight leg rigid frame, 93" S&S motor with :nos:
upswept, straight thru fish tails, 59 gas tanks, kick start only ( thats why the limp ) hit a bump at 80mph half way rthru a corner and you are air born with a busy agenda !!!! juice rear end and twin floaters up front, 3' primary belt drive..etc

I took my CBR1000RR around the island at the afterburner track day after the World Superbikes last year. It was the first time I had been around the track and my best lap time was around the 2 minute 1 second mark. I think with practice, I could knock a few seconds off of that though. Here is a pic of me at the island:

Great shot!!, looks like its taken coming out of siberia, 2min 1 first time around , thats pretty impressive, well done, I am going back to the Island next Friday to do level 4 superbike school, hopefully I can post some good lap times, will let you know how I get on, thanks for the info

HDVZMonaro
01-04-2007, 08:58 PM
Yep, you are right, it is coming out of Siberia. I think Siberia and the last turn onto the front straight are the best corners on the track. The run from Southern loop to Honda corner, with the little left hand kink can be quite deceptive if you don't get your braking marker sorted out.

my weekend bike is a ktm 95' lc4 she is a bit old now but still hammers with a few mods (full white brothers exhaust, jetting, porting, and airbox - approx. 58hp). it eats wrf, yzf and crf 450's, well not eats up! but beats them. but not quite as quick as my mates 2000 kx 500 of the line (his bike is a big handfull - too much power), anyway my bike still scares me and hurts me too. all fun, :yahoo:
