My car went into LS1 Proformance on Monday for a few things:

1. 3.9 Diff gears
2. Harrop Diff cover
3. "Extreme" 5 degree camber kit
4. Rear airbags for stiffer ride on the highway and adjustable for launches on the strip
5. New Cluch
6. New Throwbearing or Thrustbearing...depends on what you want to call it
7. B&M Megashifter

The diff dropped out - that thing with the four boltholes close to the camera is what attaches to the body. So basically, you've got 1 mounting point holding the thing still - no wonder the ****ing car axle tramps...

Ahhh the new diff cover with new mounting points for stability. GO HARROP!

New flywheel attached to the engine

If anyone remembers me talking about a rattling noise after the last T&T - that's whats left of my throwbearing. Absolutely shattered. It fell apart when the clutch came out.

Hello old diff innards...may you enjoy your new home at the tip.

The cleaning of the old diff housing. This is going to be reused with new internals.

With the diff out, the axles hanging down, lookin kinda limp...yea. Near the top of the pic, you can see where the diff mounts are.

Here's one airbag installed. They can be adjusted individually from the boot. Back years ago, they used things like these to even out the "off the line launches". I'm mainly going to be using them for when I carry people in the back, the car doesn't scrub down as much and keeps the ride a little stiffer. All I gotta do is let them down at the races!

Extreme camber kit! 5 degrees of rake! Should fix up my bad camber problems from the Holden factory.

The gearbox was back in this afternoon

Can't really see it, but the B&M Megashifter is hiding up there. It helps shifting by making them smaller - quicker shifts technically should make my quarter mile drags a little faster.

New diff is all completed.

Waiting for the diff to be installed, then the driveshaft goes back in....almost ready for the road!

It should be ready for pickup tomorrow - with some more internal stuff installed I hope.

Great pics and explanations! :)
Well done, I'll be interested to know how it behaves on the road now.

Lofty: I didn't see any utes there. Car was dropped in Monday with a midday Wednesday pickup organised. I did have to book it a bit over 2 weeks in advance for all of this.

Tre: Thanks Dave. Yea the mod bug is driving me nuts - not enough cash flow! Next....cam :D

Rate: Thanks dude. I'm more interested in how it behaves on the strip - I wish to beat my arch-nemesis...the Silver Turbo Supra!

Looking Good, will be interesting to see what the difference actually makes.. Maybe sometime on the weekend :bravo:

The adventra only came out in auto, but the 6 speed gear knob + boot was introduced VY SS2 + from memory. Also the Satin chrome door handles are VY SS + also.

nice work :) i nearly died laughing comparing the stock housing to the harrop one once we switched it over, night and day, just wait for some spirited launches makes it so much more controllable
wanted to ask though, steering wheel looks great, is it difficult to change over?

I only paid $290 for mine.
Great investment for a lowerd car that may have to load up every now and then.

Can anyone explain how these things work. I guess i have a few questions. Can you control them from inside the car? How far can you go up and down?

Yea, I was looking at the stock one and just wondering how it's stayed on for so long. New Harrop setup is great - I did a fairly decent launch on the way home yesterday, but was still a little careful as I still don't have the new shifter and clutch down pat yet. No vibrations, no axle tramp - it's great!

As for the steering wheel, it requires some kind of weird screwdriver...looks like a star with a round raised point in the middle. Once that was off, there are 4 hook like clamps holding in the airbag. Once you get them off, there's a few wires to be un-clipped for the airbag and horn. Now you can get to the nut holding the steering wheel on. Phew!

vxtreem - Was your $290 set a complete kit with the lines ect? Oh well, if that's the case...it happens.

MRSS - You usually see 4x4s use airbags in the rear to add extra support when towing large items like boats and the like. For example - for driving my car around the streets out here, I don't need any major pressure. Just enough to keep the bags from collapsing and causing damage. If I take a trip into Mackay (2 hours) I want the rear of the car to ride a little higher, so I might add 5psi into each side - or if I have people in the back, keep the car steady by adding more pressure.

My fill points are located in the boot. I might take a pic and add it - they put it in one of the hardest to reach spots.

Thanks Felony, I was more thinking so i cud dump the arse for cruising etc ;) But yes if i ever had a car load of people, or highway cruising it would be helpful. Does the bags affect the handing etc. When you say ur fill points, does that mean u use a compressor to fill the bags with air?

Felony, I orginaly got damien to tune my car and install my genx kit up ur way. If you asked him about John from bundy, thats me and he will know.

cheers

If the bags are polyair, they are 295 retail.

If the $400 was fitted then that sounds pretty fair to me.

Have you got a little 12v compressor for them Felony, or jsut stop at the servo?

Felony
30-03-2006, 03:14 PM
MRSS: Yea I'm going back next friday before TnT to get everything checked out and the "run in" diff oil replaced with whatever the good stuff is. Might even have time for a Dyno run :D When I say "fill points" it's just a valve for each bag to be hooked up to anything. I'm not really going to fill it on the move, so I'd say servos would be the place to fill up. I do have a small compressor at home, but I don't think i'll use it.

darcy: yea, $440 all up actually. As mentioned above, I only need to put more pressure in when needed, so a compressor really isn't needed.

Sounds like fun Felony, nice work. Well this shud be my final question. How do you go about picking a spring for when u use rear poly bags? And can you buy them in queensland?

Well, my car has Pedders lowered suspension, bushes, shocks - the works. This bag just went up inside the springs. The kit came from a mob down south called Polyair Spings http://www.polyair.com.au - 02 9519 9774. Give em a call, they'll be able to point you to someone in your area.

i recon the vz gear knob is one of the best things you can do for the interior.
sonny installed one in my car and i've never looked back.

Just one other thing, it's Adventra not Adventura :teach:
Yes, those knobs look good. Got mine off ebay about a
year ago for about $35.

Yea I made a mistake about that. Was pretty easy changing the base of the boot too - I would of thought it was a pain.

ah, so heres another question, if you get ultralow kings on the rear, will these polyairs be too deflated at the ultralow rideheight?

i have superlows currently, but i want to get ultralows and polyairs, so you can have it dumped like a maniac and also jacked up to go to the farm etc.

i cant really justify spending 3k+ on proper bags, but 400 is fine :)

i wonder if anyone knows whether polys are fine to use with ultralows or not, and where do most people install the lines in utes?

Guys, you can get rear airbag kits that replace your coils at the back. Its known as a load helper kit. A few places stock them, and are cheap as chips. I think the kit is about $300-400. Plus install obviously. You get two bags compressor , switch etc, and you then have full adjustability. I believe you can get them from www.airbagit.com
Cheers

my mate had those in his vs, dumped with 20's, looked sweet as and had the bags in there for when he wanted to tow the boat (so it wouldn't drag on the ground, just pump them up).....they lasted about 2 months, blamed the load of the boat, had them replaced, never used it to tow again and they lasted about another 5-6 months again of normal driving.
we took them out about a fortnight ago to fit the new brakes, guess what? they've shat themselves again (well one of the two this time) - needless to say he's given up and is raising the car another .5" to try and help with driveways, and bought a ute to tow the boat
