Electronic kill switch - how do they work and also are they worth while?
Usually it's a switch which controls power to something such as the fuel pump.
The idea is that it's hidden and then when someone tries to steal your car and start it, it doesn't start or travels 20 metres down the road before it's used up the fuel left in the line.

Take care where its put though, get someone who understands the Holden ECU system so they dont mess with something that will upset the Engine Management!

Hows it work? Basic ones just kills an iginition feed, fuel pump or starter...
Worth it, no.
Contact someone like Rhino, and get yourself an immobliser/alarm/GSM alarm...
If you are serious about car security, but on a budget, get a JAG + KEYPAD, this way, if someone steels your keys, you still need the keypad code to disarm the alarm...
There are lots of options to consider...

I would have thought some kind of kill switch would be better than nothing. Why do y ou say it is not worth it?
Also can you supply more info on "get a Jag & Keyboard" Is this is a particular type or brand name?
Cheers

Or get it done with a valet mode in your PCM that runs a different rev/speed limit when activated.
Gives you a chance to chase the car on foot if it can only do 5 kph :)

I've always loved this idea, even for when you put it in for service for something rest assued it won't be thrashed on the road test for wheel alignment or whatever.
just wish someone in Sydney could do it. no offense dan, but a long way to go just for that. but i've always wanted it since you mentioned it years ago.
How is it done Dan, is it just a feature in the PCM you enable?? If so how is it activated and deactivated by the driver?

im more worried about me being able to reach 5kph on foot!
I've always loved the idea of a 'service' switch that limits the RPM to say 4000rpm, and the tune goes to 'no power'...

The kill switch idea is normally (99% that i have seen) executed/installed very poorly, as the kill circuit is wired up to two very predictable places, found with only a couple of screws removed. For a couple of hundred dollars, a basic immobliser approved to 4601 or 3749 standard will save your car muuuch better.
Call up Rhino for more JAG+Keypad specs, the product is a JAG (immobliser) and a keypad, and you want it installed as an immobliser only, and ask for the remotes to be taken out so you can save a few bucks.. At a minimum, this would be my recommendation...
Two thirds of cars with factory keys are stolen by simply taking your factory keys... The keypad + jag is perfect to stop this, as they will only get into your car, and not get any further...
Cheers,
Carl
