This being my opinion which means nothing to you... i think the stock rims look really good and again in my opinion better then the ones you have currently on. Have you seen any around lowered on the stock rims?

awesome mods mate n love the ride height
tho i do have to agree those rims seem to 'cheapen' the look of the car alil and i do not mean to be offensive at all to ur taste in fact i actually like the rims BUT on the CV8Z the stock rimz look awesome and with that ride height it'd b a real head turner! (especially with that zorst) BUT in the end its wateva pleases u more as it is ur car n no1 else mate! awesome stuff enjoy the beast
BTW r they 18's?? look a lil like 17s but cant tell from the photo or maybe its that the stock rimz look 'fuller' ??

I'd say 18"s. They look like they're wrapped in the OE B/Stone Potenza's.:D
Nice ride by the way, but i think you need to ditch the torques and put the Z wheels back on or some 19" VX or VY GTS rims.

Hey, Was just reading through this thread and I was just wondering....174rwkw stock? I was really suprised at that as I was thinking more around the 200+rwkw stock...? This is a Manual right?

Hey, Was just reading through this thread and I was just wondering....174rwkw stock? I was really suprised at that as I was thinking more around the 200+rwkw stock...? This is a Manual right?
Well mine was dynoed at 179 rwkw stock, it's the original V2 Series 1 2002 M6. Holden quoted 225 kW and 460 Nm for the engine back then.
That translates to about 20% driveline loss. Assuming a similar loss in a VZ it should make just over 200 rwkw out of the quoted 260 kW at the crank. As always this is the theory, in reality readings are affected by a lot of different factors: dyno, strapping, fuel octane reading, ambient temps etc. etc.
the CV8Z (and all series IV monaros) had 260kw LS1s from factory. PT's dyno is known as being a little conservative, but i hardly think the original output matters now that hes driving around with 500hp!

Thanks. Yes its a manual.
The car was only 3 months old when it was first dyno'd and prob a crap tune from holden. The main thing is that I have had good gains from the mods, going from 174 rwkw to 301 rwkw. A gain of 70%+ or 127 rwkw:smilesandbanana:

Well it's time for the next upgrade. On Wednesday it will be going in for a brake upgrade. I have purchased the VZ R8 Premium brake kit from holmart and can't wait for them to be fitted.
It will also have the zorst redone in about 4 weeks, going with the Sureflow 1 3/4 ceramic coated shorty's, Ballistic cats and 3" system in medium loud.:smilesandbanana:

Thanks guys, I am very impressed with the brakes. The pedal feel is very similar to before and in normal driving you seem to forget that they are there, but give it a firm squeeze and you are instantly reminded of them. A very worthwhile mod.

I will post a sound file of the existing set up as well as the new.
Why the change?
There is no major reason for the change, just a few little ones.
The system is second hand(cheaper)
The headers are hpc coated
They are the short headers so I can have the cats back where they belong
Bigger system
Stainless
Hopefully a better sound

I have decided that I don't like the HSV logo on the brakes that were recently fitted to my Monaro. I will be sanding the logo without hopefully to much damage to the red and getting a new logo put on.
I have just received my new stencils. Hopefully it should turn out OK.

Hi Ziggy, this will definitely look the goods, just make sure the method/paint you use will be able to take the potentially extreme temperatures, should you decide to take the car to the track later on.
I believe these calipers are HPC coated (and possibly heat treated) from the AP factory.

I had the Sureflow system fitted yesterday. The system is 4 into 1 ceramic coated 1 3/4 shorty's, 3'' stainless cats and 3'' stainless system, medium loud.
First impression is that it is a lot quieter then the 2 1/2'' system that I was running, which is a good thing. Driving the car yesterday showed no loss of power down low (sotp dyno).
The only differance that I noticed was that the revs take a little longer to come back down when you change gears or when decelerating. Don't know if thats a good thing or not.
Here are a couple of vids
This is with 1 5/8'' tri-y's 2 1/2'' ss cats and 2 1/2'' system.

Also used to wake half of the street. The car doesn't see to many speed humps as I'm sure they would scrape on quite a few.

Yeh I like the 3'' better. It doesn't have the bark at idle that the original had.
It's a bit hard to hear the difference on a cheap point and shoot.

Took the car to PT today to touch up the tune to suit the new exhaust.
The first run we got just over 280 rwkw. the same as it has averaged on a few different dynos.
After a few touch ups we got a final output of 293 rwkw. Very happy with that.
What I am really happy about is the way it has transformed the driveability of the car. It is a lot smoother when taking off, where before you had to make sure your revs were a bit higher than usual. It also feels smoother at 100kph. Mark said that it will be better in fuel economy too.
So, All up I am very happy with the new exhaust.
Cheers

Gday
Have been loggin in every now and then to see how the ZIGGY mobile is going.
Great Job, as everyone agrees.
I am about to go to 19 Inch speedy cheetas on my Silver VZ Monaro.. Any clues as to what spring / suspension combos you used as I think you nailed it.
I have emailed mate in the USA and they love it
Best of luck for the rest of the project.

Thanks for the kind words.
The suspension is Pedders. Part numbers for the springs are 2275 and 2641 and Part numbers for the short shocks are 9985 and 9195.
As for future mods, I am saving for I don't know what. Not too sure what I'll be doing yet, but will keep you informed.
Are you going with the silver or black cheetas.
Here is a pic before the brake upgrade.

I went with the 19 's in silver as I saw Darkrains VZ and it looked fantastic.
Also fitted slotted DBA's in lieu of the stk items.
Only other mod is a cols air intake and the angel eyes.
Will post a few pic tommorow.

Yes.
This is a benchmark beast for me with photo's and external looks.
Good thread diggin mate, got me to look at this CV8Z again.
I judged my ride height from it as 'near to perfect'.
Good work.

Thanks for the kind words, much appreciated.
WOW, it's been nearly a year since I last updated this thread and just over 4 years since purchasing the Monaro. It's been a great journey modifying the Monaro and still very happy with the mods done. The car still feels like new and has not missed a beat in the four years.
Would I change anything if I would do it again. In short, NO. Still gives me a big smile every time I drive it.
Nothing new in the mods department but heres a few pics.
Cheers
Nick

It's a home made grille. Made out of 3mm ally sheet and powdercoated.

nice pic,s mate!!
just sold my 04 monaro for a cv8z, same colour, and with only 17000 km. she's like brand new.
one question however, he told me he has had the "cats" drilled out, i guess it will let the exhausts out a bit quicker, but seems to sometime have a little bit of lag when the clutch is pressed (ie still revving a little high then drops). didnt do it on the 04 version.

i guess its due to the ETC * Electronic Throttle *
Get the car tuned and tell your tuner about this issue and it will be solved

The "Monaro" stencil you got for your brakes, was that through holden or did you have that made up? Little things like that really do catch my eye :goodjob:

Yes, i would like to get a set of VZ brakes for mine (slightly larger), paint the calipers yellow and then get the stencil done on top
