gday all, thinking about swapping the holden badges for chevy ones. I was wondering how to get em off safely. Im not too concerned with the holden ones as they will be replaced but the "commodore" on the boot I wanna remove altogether. Anyone done this and please give experiences good or bad and any tips...Cheers Shaun

Hey shaunv8

A few years back I removed badges from my commy. To do the job I used a hair drier to soften the glue - just make sure its an even flow of heat and don't hold it in the one spot for to long as you don't want to over heat or stuff the paint. Just enough heat to warm it up, then I carefully used some fishing wire or something similar to slide behind the badge and slowly you'll get the badge off. Don't rush it and apply more heat as you need.

I'm not sure how other people have done it but it worked for me.
The big holden badges front and rear are glued but also have 2 notches on them, so there a 2 mini holes in the panel for them to sit straight - just be aware of that. When the jobs done it'll look great.

hey shaun if your gonna throw out the Commodore badge would you mind sending it this way if I payed the couple bucks for postage??

My VX is totally debadged apart from the lion (has been since I brought it) and I'm considering whacking a Commodore badge onto it, but I dont really feel like paying for a brand new one.

I boiled a jug for my SS. and let it to cool so it wasn't boiling. Then simply poured the warmish-hot water over the badges. They simply fell off.

Try that :)

When I took badges off mine & a mates car I just used a screwdriver to pop the corner of the badge off. Then I used Prepsol to remove all the sticky stuff.

No need to heat it up, comes up like nothing was ever there. :diddy:

On newish cars the badges will come off with a minimum off fuss. After a few years the adhesive hardens & it can make things a more difficult. The fishing line method is a good option in those circumstances.

there is a product called desolve it that is the best i have seen to get off sticky resins. if you can find it?

yrah but dissolve it is a citrus acid based spray, youve got to be careful it doesnt also eat the paint work as ive seen it do before :nopity:

I just polished off the sticky crap that was left after removing the badges, might be a little harder than some of the other methods suggested but it did the trick fine for me.

I just used fishing line, bug and tar remover and then polish. With this you won't get any scratches or destroy the paint

Try a 3M product called adhesive remover 700. it comes in a spray and works a treat. just my 2 cents

Good info all. I have removed the V8 badges from the Berlina, and was thinking about removing the other badges also - does the warm air and fishing line technique work OK with the lion badge on the boot lid?

When i pulled mine off the glue/double sided tape came off without a problem, except for where the V8LS1 badges sat on the front quarters...i borrowed an attachment from the panel beater for the drill......it was like a rubber, put the drill on slow and it just worked away at the glue, being carefull to move it around and not keep it in the one spot....bug and tar might take a little elbow grease, and be careful with harsh chemical removing products on your paint, especially if it is dark.

heat gun.

The adhesive can be a pain to get off nicely though... but atleast you will be putting badges in its place.

Hair dryer and floss here, though I also did the impatient flat-bladed screwdriver on some badges I didn't care for (though I put electrical tape on the paint first to protect it).

Hey guys,

I recently debadged my VX SS, i took the commodore and series 2 badges off the back. Badges were easy to get off, i used DISSOLV-IT to remove all sticky stuff. However, there is still a feint outline of the COMMODORE badge and a slight border where the series 2 badge was (not from sticky residue, i think from just build up of dirt, SLIGHT dullness under where the badges were etc).

Any ideas for blending it back into suit the rest of the paint better?? Should I cut and polish the area?? If so, what products for this do people recommend??

Thanks :)

Chris.

*update*

i used some meguiars bug and tar remover on the COMMODORE outline and it worked a treat, that is all gone now.

the series 2 badge, i used the same product and also some more desolvit and neither worked. it feels like it has been sprayed around leaving an ever so slight (very feint and hardly noticeable, im just a perfectionist) outline/edge.

maybe this would require a cut and polish to blend it?? ideas, tips and products??

thanks guys.

Chris.

Hi guys i have removed several badges. I used Dental Floss, Hair Dryer, Eucalyptus oil, followed by polish.

First i parked the car in the sun for a bit to soften up the glue behind the badges. Next i used the Dental Floss to slowly saw the badge off. I then worked the hair dryer to keep the left over glue soft whilst removing it with my finger nail. Finally i used some Eucalyptus oil to get rid of the sticky outline, followed by some polish.

Never new the badge was there.

Hope it helps.

Just Debadged my car on the weekend. Make sure you clean the surface around the badge before u remove cause it may put light circle surface scratches.

Used a hairdryer to heat the glue and then removed it with fishing line. Worked a breeze. Will post photos soon.
