After many years of people braking or twisting splines on there LS1 axles, Sam has decided to have some made that will be up to taking the torque that the LS1's are now pushing. These are great insurance for those of you who run spools, Kaaz or even just a standard diff. These axles are a direct replacement for your standard axles.
The axles below are billet and have been specially treated to strengthen them. I have been testing them for some time now, as I had been previously twisting splines on standard axles, which meant that I was forever pulling axles out to check them before they break.
Some of you would have seen Sam and I at the last skid pan day and wondering what the hell we were doing, besides just thrashing my car. We were testing these axles and a few other products. That was the reason we needed to be on the pan before everyone else and before the water was put onto the skid pan. A dry concrete skid pan puts a lot more load on the drive train. Its great to see that these axles have been holding up to the punishment.

Hi Justice
Wolfboy here:D Can you tell us any further info on why these are stronger, is it just heat treatment ? and/or is it a different type of steel perhaps with a higher carbon content ?

It is difficult to detail the differences without giving to much away. The material used is definately different in the composition of the raw material to the standard axles. The process of how the axle is then treated cannot be disclosed due to confidentiallity with the people that Sam has had manufacture these.
But I will try to explain without giving too much away.
A standard axle is forged from mild steel and flame hardened. This is fine for what they are intended to do but when put under too much stress they twist and snap.
These new axles are billets and then machined down into an axle. They are machined then stress relieved twice and then core refined before being through hardened the whole way through. The result of these processes are that the axle will endure a whole lot more pain than any standard axle and give you piece of mind.

There seemed to be very few new items being developed for the ls1 drive train market, great to see items that are a major weekness in the drive train being developed. Excellent price considering the similar product from O.S is $650each + GST + DUTIES + Exchange rate + Custom Clearance etc.
Now all we need is the next weekness link to be produced.
Book me in for set.

Sam is currently working on some driveshafts for the LS1 as well. He is trying to make something that is competively priced compared to what is available and still retain quality.

Nice looking piece of gear, was wondering when something like that would be available, so is it going into mass production for any auto outlet or just sponsors at this stage?

Is that price for a pair or each?
Do they still work for ABS? Looks like they do.

A few of us had axle problems and asked Sam to see what he could do. Sam had to order 30 sets to get them made. Its not that hard to machine them up. It is more in selection of the right material to start with, stress relieving, core refining and then through hardening that makes them work. No plans to make anymore at the moment or to put them out to market. More just for his customers that want them or forum users
There are 14 sets left. If the rest sell as fast as the first 16 sets he may look at getting another run of them done. Have to wait and see.

Sorry missed your first post. As quoted earlier there is not a lot more detail than I have already given. I have been running the first set made, to ensure some durability before Sam put them out for sale. They have adequetly coped with over 650rwhp and 500rwhp without any issues to date. The engineer is extremely confident that we should have no problems. There are other weak points that will most likely break before the axles break such as driveshafts etc. In saying that, nothing is in this world is indestructable. As far as putting a HP rating on it, it is basically impossible until we have one destruct. We would like to do a "to destruction test", so far we havent had enough power or abuse to do get there. I think the majority of people will have under 500rwkw, which is pretty much what they have already been put through.
You are welcome to drop in at Sams and have a look at the product,

Sam is currently working on something as we speak. Once they have been tested I will post the results, good or bad.

Just wondering how these are going as i couldnt find any more info on them.

As i am hunting around for info on driveshafts at the moment.

Paul,
We have several of these sets out there and doing great.
We are about to put a set into Ken's GTO after finally finding the limits of the factory CV joints :burnout:
The material specification has not caused any side effects apart from disappearing tyre tread somewhere!

HOWQUICK,
Not quite, Sam uses Sam's axles, Harrop uses Harrop's axles.:)
Similar but not the same.
Our kit upgrades the CV joints, output shafts and outer CV flanges in the "kit".

No Problems Damian
Since you feel the need to plug them here, you might want to send Sam a free Harrop set to test so we can compare them with ours.

Howdy people,
just been informed by Holden that my axles are outta "tolerance", which is making a cyclic moaning noise when cruising along.
$550.00 each + fitting to rectify.
Just thought I would enquire on this thread if the Sams' axles were still recommended/available ?
Thanks in advance, Valmet.
p.s. Vy Series 2, 3.9 gears and 90KLM.....

LOL. They come up with some crackers don't they.
If going a new set, get these axles. I would highly recommend these over the Holden ones. I've seen inside both and know there's a huge difference in quality.

That is a good one. bloody expensive, they keep going up.
you can buy 2 from repco and get change for the price of one holden one lmao and get 5yr 100000 warranty so you never have to worry about forking out cash again. i have had mine in for 30k and seem to be fine.
I thought mine were stuffed a month ago, till a mate gave the car a decent wheel alignment and straightened the rear wheels then the noise stopped.
