I believe that one of their certification requirements is the "pot-hole" test. They have to be able to survive a certain sized pot-hole without damage, hence high-profile 17s instead of 18s.

Or you could go like me and change a GTO into a better looking GTO ;)
Of course explaining it to people here is not easy.. :D

That is true - but the 18's did pass the pot hole test, and they still opted for 17's. Odd.

Because of the cost of shipping the cars over and trying to get the
car at the lowest cost possible Pontiac chose to make all the cars "base" models.
No digital climate controls,no navigation,no sunroof,17" wheels,so and so on.
There was only two options at all , auto or manual ,,that was it.
They should have saved the money they wasted on the Pontiac nose and
the silly wing and offered some options instead ..

yea that really pisses me off, i wish we had all the options they did, i would love to see them bring Holdens over and sell them at GM dealers, i know i would buy one, but it is a bit cheaper to convert it over, still gotta do the VZ rear end, and door sills.

Whatever wheels you fit, make sure they're the factory items. Personally, I'd go with 19" as per HSV GTO, but the 18" that you can option in the U.S.A. would be almost as good.
Cheers, Pickles.

looks the goods matey.. as per the above posts i'd bin the wing, and go for either HSV GTO rims, VZ clubby rims (pure porn) or the tried and proven VX GTS 19" jobbies...

you're definately on to a winner though :)

gasguz
27-06-2006, 07:30 PM
either the VX GTS or the GTO rims are the way to go. I would gladly own either. But if you wanted an answer on the 2 rims you have pictured, the GTO rims would me my pick, they look good in print & even better on the car. Hope this helps,

cheers

28-06-2006, 01:15 PM
This is what I think u should do, take it as u will :)

1. Lose the wing
2. Bigger rims
3. Lose the clear tail lights and opt for darker ones, ala CV8-R.
4. Lower it
5. Lose the big sticker, IMO wank factor.

Do all that and u will no doubt have the best looking GTO/Monaro going around :)

Good job so far with what u have done.

I also want to make mention a big plus with ur car is how u went about painting the nostrils, a small detail which makes a big difference.

Im not the biggest fan of the VZ nostrils but what u have done which I think makes them stand out so much better is the fact u painted them in a glossy black as apposed to a matt black which I think the stock VZ's come out in. If i end up getting a VZ I will repaint them in a glossy black.

powerman_dsr
15-08-2006, 07:39 AM
i got a Ute cluster the other day along with a VY Ute sport sterring wheel, so i removed the the airbag and replaced the pontiac embelm with the holden embelm and changed the sterring wheel at the same time, boy does it grip well, also took my cluster apart and put the overlays and the needles from a Ute SS in mine instead, and no i dont have the 2 green screens any more, next thing im gonna do is put right hand drive turn signal switch and right hand drive windsheild wipper controls, so tell me what you guys think, only thing ive got left is the Seats wich are getting done next month.

Not wanting to sound like a Smart Arse, but by the time you bought the GTO, and converted everything over, would it have been feasable to simply import your original car from Aust.? Would you have had to convert it to LHD before you could drive it, or could you simply have registered it and driven straight away, in a legit holden?
