Hi guys,

My Dad and I are thinking of hitting the Creek for a track day at the end of June for his 50th birthday. Just wondering if there's anything we need to do to the bikes for it - like do you have to tape up lights etc, remove blinkers and all that?

Also, if any of you have previously done a track day there, what are the 4 speed groups really like? Dad and I both ride GSXR1000s, mine's a K4, his is a K5, I'd say I'm reasonably fast on the road (I leave a couple of mm on the edge of the back tyre) and Dad is quite a bit quicker in the corners than me (he uses the whole tyre). Would we be in the slow group for a track day or one of the medium groups? Do they move you around groups as the day goes on based on your ability or is it all guesswork? And do you get the whole 20 minutes of each session on the track or does that include pit time?

Do they help you with your bike setup regarding things like suspension settings to help you get the most out of the bike, or are you on your own?

Cheers,
Dave

Hi Dave,

I would suggest to start in the slow group, just to get used to the track. If you are to fast for that group you can move into the medium group.

You will find the track a lot different to the road, for example I am very slow on the road, but can do mid 1:40s on the track which is quite quick on a 600 at a track day. Times for the groups would be similat to below

Slow Group - 2:05 - very slow
Med Group - 1:55 - 2:10
Fast Group - 1:40 - 1:55

No one is there to give you advice apart from other track day people. Mate I would pay the extra cash and do a school type day. More fun and you will learn to go heaps quicker.

Thanks for the advice. I rang Eastern Creek this morning before I booked, they said anyone who hasn't been on the track before automatically goes in the slow group. So that made it easy.

I'd consider a school day if I end up wanting to do more track days. At the moment it's a one-off for Dad's 50th but we'll see how things pan out.

Cheers,
Dave
