Hi everyone.. fairly new to the forums.. and have been coming in for a look from time to time.. thought it was time I got started!..
Anyhow.. I have owned my current VY SS Series 1 for nearly 6 months now.. and in that time have added.. new split hsv engine covers, genuine ss floor matts, dropped her on Lovells superlows and put on a set of 20 inch Cheetah rims.. She's very close to how I want her to be.. all i need to get now is a sweet sounding cat back exhaust and mafless tune and pipe!.. also got some new plates for her :).. and changed all badges to the series II chrome versions..

Is it just me or does the car NOT look lowered? My Kings Superlows have 18" wheels/tyres just level with the guards. 20" rims on mine would sit up in the wheelwheel.
Darkrayne
18-05-2006, 11:19 AM
Its lowered.. superlow Lovells.. as i said.. looks can be decieving.. youd have to see it in real life .. that and takes few weeks for the springs to settle more.. I didnt want to go ultra's as then cops and scraping become an issue!

That's a hot looking set of wheels. I have 19's on my silver ss with the deep dish. I love the look of the deep dish. It gives the rims some balls like the olden days.
Who lowered your car ? I like the ride height, it's not too low...
Good work.

I'll be in the silver vy ss club (for now). If I go the VE SS I might go black. Lot's of people are trying to talk me out of black. I had a silver series 1 VY SS too, the silver is nice.
My Mrs won't drive my car (thank god) so the rims get babied near kerbs since I clouted one on my series 1 SS a couple of years ago.
Are there any issues with camber when the car is lowered ?

Know what you mean. Saw some black cars at the V8's on the weekend, they were filthy. My SS was bad enough. I learnt the first time I took my car to Wanneroo not to wash it before you go. It looks great going up there but crap going home.

You'll be happy with the note. When I left the V8's last Saturday I was parked in the Corporate parking area near a bus. There were 8 guys drinking beer next to a bus waiting to get on it. When I started my SS up they all went off. They all came over and wanted to have a look around. I drove off telling them I was going home to paint a No. 2 on my door. They offered to do it then and there for me....

Not wrong, but unfortunatley all to often you get the wrong attention too. DH's are attracted to damaging them. I'm very careful where I park. I always get comments from people about taking up two car bays when parking. It's amazing how many people couldn't give a toss about opening their car door onto your car, even when they have a new car ?? What is wrong with these people.
We have a FORD XR8 driver here that pulled up next to me in the carpark at work whilst I was in my car, flung his door open with gay abandon and dented my bump strip on the door. Not even a "Sorry Mate"......

Also, would a tune give much increas in power with the factory headers and cats ?

best to do extractors by a otr then get a tune so you can maxamise your gains.

So how does she sound compared to yours with the rear ressie on?
DR,
Hard to tell because I haven't really heard mine like that from the rear, only driving it. If I had to take a guess, yours is probably slightly louder. I get a slight drone at 100km/h in sixth. Just a bit low in the revs with that exhaust. Would like to change to 3.9's.....
Everyone that hears it comments on it, so you'll find the same....

I also ONLY use the Kenco Hydro Chamios.. best chamois ever imo!

just a quick question buddy, if u get larger wheels, does the speedo on the car still read accurately or do u need to change something?

As far as i know as long as your rolling diameter is the same you should be right.. ive travelled up against people in certain speed zones and have found mine to be pretty accurate.. but yes in some circumstances you would need to adjust the speedo..

I do apolagise for not responding but yes I did paint my grille I was bored and to fit the OTR I removed the radiator cover soon to be cut and refitted and the plastic cover on the engine side of the radiator has two plastic clips sticking out they were lovingly and carefully snapped off .Maffless tune obviously and that was about it .Saying that it is slightly rubbing the bonnet so I will have to fine tune the fit B4 sunday oh mighty cruise god.

Well went and finally go the Custom Mafless tune done today!.. and oh what a difference!.. instant throttle response and alot more go right along the rev range.. and esp in the mid to top end! never passed cars on a highway like i did today on the way back from the edit.. like she's found some extra legs! lol.. also had limiter moved to 6500rpm and idle slightly lower at about 780 roughly.. took the maf out put on the last bit of the gts pipe setup being the boot..
Also managed to get into the H v F show this weekend ! can't wait! :D

Well done DR keep going down the bolt on route every mod I have added has had a great result first tune 2nd-extractors,OTR,and one of my favorites 3.9's and the rip shift tops it all off.Its still astounds me that a few well selected mods can give the LS1 close to 100 extra rwhp (30%) increase and see a resonably heavy car running high 12,s.

Thanks Daz!, I am thinking about a ripshift as my gear stick is a bit long lol..
and yeah.. 100rwhp gain from the bolt ons is what makes the Gen III a great engine .. esp in stock form .. kinda waiting on us to release the neddies that have been coralled! lol..
whats a rip shift cost installed?.. also running the laptop in the ss when we tooko her out for a spin.. noticed my atmospheric pressure was near dead on 100!give or take 2-3 under!.. not bad for my intake! was also told by the tuner that he wouldnt waste any money on an aftermarket throttle body as the stock one flows up to 1000cfm.. and theres no way in hell the manifold sucks in that much at one time..
but yeah bit nervous about being in the show this weekend.. gotta get her cleaned up well!.
thanks for the comments

Daz can you fit your OTR without taking off the plastic cover which sits over the radiator ?
Will the OTR work without a tune ? i.e. on my standard motor ...

The plastic cover must come off (2 second job) and you need maffless tune.

I fitted a 84mm starr throttle body to my ute, and i thought it was worth it for the snappy throttle. The seat of my paints felt like more top end, but also my ute has a cam.
Id be interested to see how many of the unopened cars are running throttle bodys, as i know of one in WA that has one, he ran 11.95 at 115mph...

ahh.. gotta love a cam :D.. lumpy goodness! :D.. but yeah i found just with my custom mafless tune and full gts intake and K&N filter shes as snappy as ever!.. and so i was told it wont make it any more snappier putting on an aftermarket tb.. John
Massive Street Commodores Cruise for Charity this sunday @ Starting at the carousel woolworths carpark @ 10am.. though people who haven't registered for it have to get there @ 9am so there's time to get people rego'd..
should have roughly 150 commodores in attendance thus far..
For the Starlight Foundation.. many sponsors donating awsome prizes for the raffle and trophies going out for different awards during the cruise.. raffle prizes like a 2.5 inch cat back from TTfactory, fuel vouchers, performance goods from Pro autos.. and so on.. all in the street commodores cruise section under W.A. Have a few of the s.commodores magazine staff coming over for it too.. will be a story in one of the mags bit later on.. also having someone from nova 93.7? meeting up with us sometime on the cruise with some broadcasting ive heard..
it's the one big event for the year, cruise wise.. held round this time every year.. now in it's 3rd year.. around Aus..

The superlows are roughly 2 inches lower.. i could go ultra lows but then the car becomes very unpracticall.. if it was all about the looks yeah.. but im after practicality more than anything.. hell today dropping my 20s off at Toll in Kewdale went over speed hump slowly and still bottomed out!.. man i woulda totally screwed everything badly if i'd had ultras in!
also if you saw me pull up in the SS in person itd look lower again.. .. not to mention in the pics above the road slopes so one side was sitting bit higher than the other...

I agree with with you Darkrayne it is best to stay at superlows. I have a VZ SV8 and went ultra low and found myself hitting every speed bump in Perth(especially with the heavy duty tow hitch that runs under the fuel tank). Changed the lot to Pedders Sport ryder extreme probably somewhere between lovell low and super low but suits me fine as I carry a boot full of work gear and the extra weight drops me down to super low height.
Also saves tyre wear on rear without nead of full camber kit and also handling on the street is best at this height and you can use standard wheel alignment settings.
Hey Darkrayne now at least if you have a twitch to light up the rears or pull a big power slide it won't hurt the hip pocket so much. 18s have come down in price over the last few years.

I bet you cried when you had to part with the 20s. They sure look great on a commodore.
I do know if you pull into corners too hard on 20's you can scrap the rims or as well damage a tyre, mate did this to his.
I have 18's on mine but would love bigger. As I do 30 odd k a year and only getting around 20k on my 18's going up to 20s or even 19s would mean at least 2x my outlay for tyres a year. At least I can still have a little fun, nothing better than using full throttle to pull the ol LS1 out of a big power slide.

Let me know where you get 18s for $145 I'm due for a set.
How loud is the zorst with the hotdogs? I'd like to hear it, I'd be interested in doing it too, how much is cost and who did it?
Did you do it without a rear resinator?
Do you have much drone?
Will try for a sound file very soon :D..
The exhaust is nice n loud yet very respectable while crusing eg not giving it heaps wouldn't attract the wrong kind of attention if youre being sensible :D.. no drone in my 6 speed ! cant say for auto..
Got it done at one of the local TT Factory outlets near me in maddington.. i already had a twin 2.5 inch cat back done with no rear resonators so just had centre mufflers removed and hotdogs installed :) roughly $180 drive in n out.. did bring nice smile to my face after they started her up for the first time :D hehe..
