Seems, my self-back-patting in relation to my cam install wasn't entirely appropriate.

I dropped the car off at Amberley Autos yesterday for a tune, after driving it around like a granny - nothing over 2,500rpm for a week (Daily Driver).

Anyhow, I get a call from Rob at 9am today and he says, "We've run it up and it isn't making much power at all, we've dropped the zorst, thinking cat failure, but nothing. It won't make power over 4000rpm." I say, "Oh, sh!t."

Rob asks, "What is the cam, who put it in?" I say, "Comp 222/224 and that I installed it."

He says, "Did you degree it in?" I say, "No, dot to dot."

He says, "Oh....well we'll have a look at it and get back to you." I think, "Ah, bugger more $$$ and maybe a BIG problem." :bawl:

11:30 comes around and Rob calls, "The cam timing is out around 14 degrees and that's the problem. The compression and everything else is okay though."
I say, "Phew."

Anyway, I arrived at Amberleys at around 5pm and Rob says, "Here it is" and shows me a dyno sheet that made me very happy.

The boys had to adjust the cam timing and we all know that was a bit of work - all of that for a very nominal cost.

Then, the tune-up.

Driving home, it was sensational and I can only describe the car as :woohoo: :burnout: :nyuk:

Heaps more power everywhere and a brilliant lumpy idle, that even in peak hour Dandenong traffic, stood up to the test.

So a great big and hearty THANK-YOU to Rob and the crew at Amberley Autos!!!!!

And a lesson learned by me.....Even though I took my time and went through it all properly, that sometimes it pays to check, recheck and have someone else check your work. :teach:

Yep, black346, it was a long wait, but all good in the end.

Simon, the car is like a rocket now and very smooth.

Cheers,

Macca

Macca Must be something about the local cars at the HPF this week, my mate tonner with a nice little 355ci Holden engine would not make power past 4500rpm, but the cam timing was good, they dropped the pipes on this one and it came good, we knew b4 hand the exhasut was going to be a prob, but did not think it would be as bad as it was.

Anyway, top figures mate, you better come and take me for a drive.

Excellent, nearly exactly the same power mine made with that cam (on a Dynolog, though).

Macca are you going to take it back to IMS so you can run it up there and get a graph with stock, with exhuast, and now with cam, all overlaid together ?

Thanks Matty and yep, i'll call in and see Stathi next week when I've got time.

Although, the full zorst graph was done at Chev's at his dyno day, so I'd have to hand plot it to compare.

Cheers lads,

Macca

Bugger, but at least its all fixed and good to go (hard) again.

How hard was it for you to put the cam in?

No worries Matt, I'll be in touch.

And Chris 5.7ltr, doing the job wasn't too difficult at all and took around 6.5 - 7 hours all up.

However, when dialling the cam in, it was late, around 3am and I should've really waited until the next day. I was fairly certain that I had lined it up correctly, but it is clear that I was mistaken. You live and learn though.

Cheers,

Macca

G'day vyssbeast, I do intend upon giving it a run or two, just to see what I can get out of it, then I'll retire into anonymity once more.

Hopefully I'll get a spare Friday night to do that.

Cheers,

Macca

Well be sure to let me know when that friday night will be, i live literally two minutes away from calder and am looking forward to meeting some forum members. Would be good if we could organise a day to have a number of forum members down there. Gets bit annoying when i can hear the drags just cant see them lol just waiting for the right day to go and be sure it'll be worth it. I would give my car a run but its not ready just yet so ill wait till then.

Dialing in the cam correctly would be one of the most important parts of the job I think.
So when I do mine I'll wait till I'm fully a wake and 100% on the job.

Thanks for the reply.:)
