Well this was my intro to the Grange back in 2004....

http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=26566&highlight=grange

Now not even 2 years later, it has clocked 200,000kms and is still going strong. Thought I would share my experience with the Grange over that time.

MODS:
3.7 diff gears, Ls1 Edit (Mafless Tune = 235rwkw)

AUTO:
Original auto was replaced under warranty at 90,000kms due to flaring between 1-2 and 3-4 shifts.

FUEL ECONOMY:
Continually returning between 10.2 and 13.5l/100km average on a daily basis dependant on city/hwy mix. (Use only BP Ultimate or Caltex Vortex).

SUSPENSION:
Front and rear Struts & Shocks, strut tower caps, radius rod bushes, inner and outer control arm bushesm sway bar link pins and bushes, steering rack bush and LH engine mount all replaced at 190,000kms.

TYRES:
Original 235/45/18 Bridgestone S-03's lasted 75,000kms
Optioned 245/35/19 Pirelli P-Zero's lasted just on 55,000kms
Replacement 245/35/19 Hankook K104's lasted 71,000kms (could have prolly got another 5,000kms out of them but as this is a work vehicle with the responsibility of transporting the general public... and Melb now into Winter... thought it appropriate to replace them).

This car is otherwise original and is as tight as a frogs arse.

Could not be more satisfied with it and is a prime example of a HSV that has been looked after and even though cops the occasional hiding is in A1 condition. The interior is as new and has only been maintained using the Maguires Leather Wipes and misc. Carpet cleaning products.

Bring on the next 200,000kms.....

Just a few more details FYI:

BRAKES:
Averaging 50-60,000kms on front pads. Front Rotors (330mm) were replaced at 130,000kms. Rears still original, pads changed around every 80,000km.

SPARK PLUGS & LEEADS:
Original platinum plugs changed at 120,000km, leads are all original bar 2 which frayed at the insulators.

Cheers

Seeing your car had me lying awake last night planning my next car... thinking LS2 Grange (second hand though). Straight up one of the coolest cars in production.

Out of interest, how is the HSV Grange ride compared to a sloppy statesman? I cant stand cars that wallow around and feel like a majic carpet ride, ie Jaguar. I like firm suspension.

Thanks J,

The ride is firm but not choppy.

HSV have done a good job of making the car feel sharp but not compromising the ride. It is a great daily driver and an exceptional hwy cruiser.

Rob

having been a paying passenger I can attest that the back seat of the Grange is a very nice place to be
the ride is firm and controlled but soft enough to allow the luxuriousness of the Grange to show up...........

cheers

what type of oil is used ?

Was using Mobil 1 as per service recomendations since day 1... now changed to Castrol Edge 25/50 Mineral oil and to be honest feels more torquey and still no excess usage.

Supposedly Mobil 1 was really only recomended to achieve better fuel economy as claimed by manufacturer. :hmmm:
