G/day

I just recently brought a s/hand 02 WH HSV Grange. Before i brought the car my idea was to lower the car 2.5 inch with some new springs & shocks. But after buying the car, i have now found how smooth it drives with the factory suspension fitted in the car so i dont want to change this.

The thing that bothers me is the rear suspension sits up way to high & it has a decent rake forward. The rear shocks are selve levelling air bag type suspension fitted from factory.

So my question is - Can i adjust the setting on the rear air shocks so i can bring the rear of the Grange down by half to 1 inch lower, so the rear will sit level with the front end ???

Thanks - JOHN

Yes it can be lowered

Fit your lowered springs and then you will have to modify the sensor arm for the level ride system. The arm is non-adjustable so you will have to get the saw out as it needs to be shortened.

...or, pull the fuse for the self-leveller, turf the self-levelling shocks and put some decent (Koni, Bilstein etc) rears in and unclip the arm from the levelling sensor. This also gets rid of the thumping sound from the standard rear shocks

I had a look underneath the right side rear of the car & there seems to be a adjustable plastic & metal arm going from the lower control arm. But it looks adjustable to me ???

No it is not adjustable. It is the same system as fitted to the Adventra, which I have. I lowered my Adventra by 90mm and did two things. Changed the lower bracket to the Statesman one, which helped, then rotated the bracket, outside the notch position, until the suspension settled at low pressure to the right ride height.

You have to keep some pressure in the airbags, or they rub and will be damaged.

Or as others said, toss it all together and fit better shocks. Me, with HID lights, I kept the self levelling system.
