I just installed a Peterson oil air breather to my VX SS. When the car starts now the idle speed is up at 1000rpm for about a couple of seconds. Is this normal for the car to do this. It has only happened since I have put the breather on. I connected the hose of the breather to the port in the side of the manifold on the drivers side. The other hose comes of the breather then goes to the PCV valve. I copied the picture that I found on a search on this forum. Any help anybody would be good I dont know if I should change the car back to normal but I spent a bit of money on the unit.?????? Thanx

is that one with a filter on top?

pretty sure the valve should be on the TB side hose other wise you'll suck air all the time

Yeh its got the breather on top. I have kept the hose going from the rocker cover to the throttle body intact. I took the hose off the manifold coming from the pcv value on the drivers side and put it into the breather. It only idles high untill the car warms up the it goes back 2 normal. Thanx

Mine is a rock-stock VY1 SV8 and it's done this since brand new .. startup idle when COLD is about 1000rpm for about 10sec .. then is slowly drops down .. or will drop if put in gear.

using one with the breather on top you should not use the pipe back to the manifold behind the TB, this setup is for sealed systems.

just run all the oil vapour hoses to the can which vents itself.

having a hose to the manifold with this setup will just suck outside air through the breather filter on the can into the manifold giving the higher rpm. the idle stepper motor on the TB will be working overtime to bring the revs down.

PS breather cans are not legal but work much better at keeping oil out of the manifold than anything

I took the hose coming from the drivers side front rocker and put it into the breather, and took the hose on the drivers side which goes into the manifold and put that into the breather. Is this the way you explained it to me. When I started the car and the idle speed went up2 1000rpm and stayed there. I am sure I have done this wrong. Can you help me on this one please. Thanx

oops i missed this one did you sort this out ?

basically block the manifold/tb pipes/connections off don't use them, you can run the front TB pipe to the rear TB pipe with one pce of hose which is blocked inside the middle of it.

Then run all oil vapour pipes to the can only, no connections from the TB area to the can, just block them off as above.
