I think, correction KNOW, that it helps if you stay single and work hard, or at the very least, make sure you rule the roost. Unfortunately I don't fit into either of these bloody categories, (except work) but she definitely lets me do what I need to do (express need) to my ute, seeing she drives it aswell. Mind you it took me till I was 32 to find that chick. If your like me you would want everything to be done at once. I work on the elephant/pygmy theory when it comes to mods. A pygmy can eat an elephant, just by nibbling away at it!!! Of course it depends on your employment too. Many years ago when I was younger, I couldnt afford to do it. Now I fly Ag planes for a living, and that allows for some extra cash to head into others accounts, sometimes!! All the best.

Strictly cash here, if I can't afford to pay for it, I don't get
it, simple as that. The next round of mods for me will come
from a little stint of tax free wages and allowances from a
short stint of o/s work.

Slap it on the creds!! It loves all the attention!!
But normally its no biggie, theres only the odd grand here and there which is relatively easy to pay off.

For some reason I can pay off a debt a lot better/quicker than I can save the money. Must be the gambler in me....

Being a daily drive and company owned car, mods depend on cash flow at the time.
The cost of running company car can be quite a bit.
I sometimes can carry up to 500 kg in the back, of course we had to change a few things to cope with the extra load and they sure do have their problems, lots of repairs are often needed with these sort of loads.
95% of my mods were done under the original lease before I took delivery, bigger brakes, bigger wheels, stronger gearbox etc, etc, was a must with carrying and towing heavier loads, this took care of most issues.
Food for thought.
As for the wife, she say, "you make the $$$, you spend it on what you like, as long as I've got my little cruze, I'm happy" (she would rather drive a vette though, as she keeps telling me)

My mods are considered repairs, Dirty air filter needs to be replaced bought a K & N bigger outlay but saves money over time. Clutch went got a lightened billet steel flywheel and HD clutch for the same price as standard holden product. Racing harnesses went in cause belts are getting old and fraying. Put it on the credit card and have 3 months to pay it off with 1% interest. But keep the limit low on the card not to go overboard (very easy to do).

I also pay cash. I also have a part time job. It is my pocket money job. Whatever I earn there, I can get whatever I need for the time.
At the moment, I am saving for some mods to the Monaro.
But also, I treat the kids with some great birthday and christmas gifts and treat the wife with a weekend in the country.
But I have also done well in buying and selling property. Because of this I was able to have purchase my Monaro and my other cars.

Hey Throttlehappy,
I started investing in shares, then moved into residential property. Now, 9 years later (I'm 32) my investments include residential property, commercial property and developments. I've moved away from the share market - but that is not to say there are good gains to be had there - I made a very healthy profit from the shares when i was starting to invest.
My advice to you is to get your 'mindset' right - I know that sounds like wank, but the more you get investing into your perspective and the goals you want to achieve the easier it will become. You will need to do the hard yards though, I used to cry when my dream cars would be cruising by me on the road when I was driving a sh&tbox, but I would say "it will be worth it mate..." Now I'm the one driving my dream wheels...no debts....awesome..
The earlier you start to invest the better mate.. Seriously, if you reckon you can forgoe the hot cars now it will pay off..:)
Cheers

I wish that i could say cash all the way, but I get a little carried away. My ute is part of a machinery investment I have (thanks to a very understanding broker) and a combination of being single, a good paying job and doing time in the family business after hours pays for cash mods and personal debt repayments.
I am not afraid to admit that i have used credit but my other circumstances keeps the situation stable, I dont wish for an empire yet just a nice car and financial stability.

30-05-2006, 08:33 PM
I use cash, any overtime goes towords mods or house loan payments,
When the Mrs asks how much tell them it was 30% of the actual cost, try to keep a straight face and get away with it.
You know how it is if theres extra cash "i want a new stove" etc
I don't try to do everything at once either, over time you can save the money and do it and it gives you plenty of time for research and deciding

howdy all!:D
cash certainly is the best way to pay for most things. that is why once every few months my mates and myself enjoy watching Armaguard vans at particular locations. arrival and departure times, procedures, personnel etc...
only kidding!! i'm just a plain old sparky by trade. i work for the man 5 days a week do my own jobs on the weekends and every now and again recyle some copper ($5.00 per kg). my wage pretty much gets eaten up on mortgage, bills etc. but i tell you what, put in a few good weekends and the modification fund starts looking good.
i've currently got enough money for my gen tt kit:banana: but the extra 3 or 4 gorillas i'm gonna need soon for tune, injectors, exhaust etc. has got me giving my credit card funny looks:hmmm: might be an option 'cos i don't rekon i can sit there looking at the kit, as opposed to enjoying it!!!:driving:
in summary, as long as there is beer in the fridge and enough rubber on the rear, i is a happy chappy:thumbsup: (in no way condoning drink driving)
cheers

kids atually come in handy, when i drive i dont speed or do anything naughty, so i save money..
but dont get married, so much cash for a 1 day event, if you sleep with them, roooot them, and they cook you dinner no point getting married.
but she did say, if she got a boob job, i got to do some mods on the car, she didnt say how much i could spend, what she doesnt know wont hurt...
modifications come from hard earned cash, all my homies go towards the car, and toys. and being in the trade its easier, and cheaper.
IMO, cash is the only way to go, but credit could come in handy, if your smart with it and dont go over board.

smart financial planning and ensuring you have enough funds to live off
yes car mods are expensive but then can be managed as long as you are able to be smart about it..
mainly cash or credit card....
Use all the 6months interest free options some of the credit cards offer that way you have time to save and repay

ummmmmm for me cash!!!
if ya got loads of cash yes!!!
if ya can't pay cash you should take a good long hard look at yourself and ask yourself this question.... can i really afford this?
if the answer is no well then step away for the car and spend it on your family( eg KIDS, WIFE) or don't spend it at all... (that's called saving!?!)
if your 18 do what you want because us oldies don't know nothing!!
If you really really really really really want that engine upgrade or that exhaust or what ever it is put a little bit of money away every pay day until you save the amount you need. SIMPLE!!!
then you still have money to enjoy your life... get on the piss with your mates, go clubbing, pay your rent and put fuel into your beast!!!
ok... ok... dad that's enough on that subject...:kapow:
