G'day Lads,
From what i can see drag racing is by far the most popular form of participative motorsport for LS1 owners, while i can see the attraction is just doesnt really interest me.
I have experience in Supersprinting and Track days (Not in LS1)and would like to look at doing this on a semi regular basis in the future. I would be very keen to get some set up tips from blokes who get into this and hillclimbing / dutton / tarmac rallies with their LS1
i will be using a VY 2 HSV R8 to do this. I am trying to keep costs to a minimum and have come up with below must haves...
Power Steering Cooler
Quickshift
Light 18' Wheels (OZ or HSV P48) Semi Comp Rubber
Eibach Springs and new R8 Shocks (as per Clubsport R)
Replace bushes with Poly units
Race pads and two piece rotors (alloy hats)
Air box Mod and MAF tune (daily driver - fuel consumption matters)
I would be grateful for your input
Cheers
Rob

After a little time here you may redefine your criterai , generally find a mafless tune will give economy just as good as a maf tune and with the added bonus of extra horses.
OTR or over the radiator intake will be a must for competion use to ensure maximium cold air to the engine.

Rob,
Sounds like you have the track essentials covered, although i would hazard a guess the two piece rotors are not great value. Try DBA 4000 instead, about 1/3 the cost, consider it a consumable. Also, brake fluid might be worth investigating of course.
I agree with the whole OTR comment, awesome on the track.
We have a Wakefield day on Friday June 23 coming up (just an open day) given your location you should consider coming along. PM me for details.
And again, as mentioned, PM Beej for some detailed experience on the LS1 supersprint scene.

Yep. Agree to all above.
For superprints huge rotors and calipers aren't that important as you are usually doing max 3 fast laps per session. With the better pads and fluid the DBA rotors and twin piston calipers will do the job nicely.
A couple of things you missed. Swaybars. Some heavy duty adjustable swaybars will be priceless to improve handling and when trying to dial out understeer/oversteer. Also a good wheel alignment for the track will help alot. Another thing I recommend is a race harness. Definately not compulsary but makes it so much better (with my pov seats anyway) and is a good investment for your safety if your looking to do these regularly. Not hard to fit to our cars either.
The other thing is budget for licensing etc. But if you have done these events before you probably know about this stuff. Race numbers, fire extinguisher, CAMS licence etc.

Thanks for all of your comments lads - agree had also considered
Alignment (inc castor / camber kits)
Comp. Brake Fluid
Redline Oil for Diff and Gearbox
Slightly overfilling sump
Forrestd - Good call re the 4000 series, i was thinking alloy hats to reduce unsprung weight, however they are consumable.
Hazza - i was intending to rely on factory HSV sways for the first couple of outings so i could understand what the car is doing first before playing with the sways..... i prefer to do this incrementally.
And i will investigate the OTR / MAFless option - looks good.
Unfortunately unable to attend 23rd June - will be o/seas on holiday :bounce:
But i will be keen to come along to the next track day for a sticky beak :bravo: Unfortunately i am driving a Mazda 6 at the moment (digging myself out of the $$ hole caused by past car choices :bawl: )

Yeah good idea. See where you are at with the HSV gear and go from there. Shame your away but Gen-Tech is having another Wakefield Track Day (http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=55237) on July 26 if your back in time. Your very welcome to come along.

Look in to getting a dry battery also as I had the original one leak all over the inside (and outside)front guard.
Rear camber kit is a Pr$$k to put on and we ended up taking the whole rear on the floor.
The front is also hard as you will need to lower the engine a little.
Negative camber on the front is great (say 2 deg) and as much forward front caster as you can(I have 10.5 )
Coolers as you say are worth every cent as is full synthetic oil.
If you can get a good harness and make some brackets to suit -you would be surprised how this helps you relax in the car without fighting it.
As the others said Beej knows quite a bit and Im sure he will help as I only do a few track days here and there.
Oh by the way Unique Auto sports (http://www.nismo.com.au) is holding an Oran Park track day on the 23rd July.
Cost about $200 I think and all you need is helmet, long shirt and pants and there is a group for naturally aspirated cars (us)
