My 05 Clubby (which i purchased in February, brand new and it has only done just under 4000kms) has been at the local HSV dealer since Thursday with a weird knocking sound in the engine, thought that it was just a loose fan shroud. But yesterday I had the worst call imaginable "We are gonna need to change the engine". Apparently the engine needs to be stripped down tested and then they will send a new one out. Does this sound weird to anyone else. While they have been helpful no one will actually tell me the problem or the cause. They have given me a rental car for a couple of weeks but it just doesn't match up to my clubby.

At least they are going to take care of you, not like many others.

It will work out in the end.

Good Luck.

not good, holden admit that the ls1 is the most troublsome engine they have fitted to any holden, lets hope the ls2 does'nt follow suit.makes me think that the poxy v6 i drive aint that bad.
had 5 v6's now not one engine problem, and each has had it time towing a half cab boat.

Have they said how long for the changeover ? This is the 1st one I have heard of as well. Hopefully your motor is a one off problem, mines done 23,000 and going strong.

I think the biggest thing here, from reading other threads about other forum users and their service levels or lack of, is that you are pretty lucky that they are doing all this for you with relatively minor inconvenience to yourself.

I know how much it must suck to not be able to drive the new clubbie. Hope you're on the road again soon

:driving: My brother had the same with his Cluby, but it was an Ls1 . Holden re-built it and following the rebuild, it punched out approx 228rwk before the tune - (reliable dyno - Sams Performance) but we were never sure what they did, but my brother liked it....

You may get a better donk than before !

So are they stripping & rebuilding your engine or giving you a new engine ?

Would have thought at 4,000kms, you should get a newie.

actually with only 4000k on the clock i thought they would consider giving you a new car seeing as tho they are considered premium vehicles. If there is a problem you would think Holden would step out of there way to avoid any bad publicity of the ls2 considering the problems they had with the ls1 - to maintain consumer confidence!!

They can always repair yours and sell it back off as a low k used.

On the up side it appears they are looking after you very well and I guess if it is an iscolated problem its more a case of a little bit of bad luck. I can imagine how you must feel.

If they do replace the engine I assume this would affect the resale value of the car as its usually recorded in the service history isn't it? Again I'm not quite sure...

When did they ever admit that???

Well I can personally tell you my experiences with Gen 3 emgines has been good. The VX SS no problems it was more reliable than the VP SS it replaced sold it when it had around 120,000 ish on the clock. The VY2 Calais stuff all problems again apart from a spark plug lead/coil that died in the arse. 41,250 k's on it now and getting better by the k.

But unfortuantly some have not been so lucky but cars are machines and you cannot depend on them 100%.

When did they ever admit that???

They didnt, its another half cocked supposition by an ill informed writer :weirdo:

LS2 engine failure - there has been a couple of isolated cases where an LS2 fitted with modified exhaust has experienced "internal problems" therefore the mandate now that any aftermarket exhausts fitted will void the warranty. As a mechanic I find this somewhat puzzling however there has been a problem if somewhat rare. Be interesting to hear what the cause with this one is

It is indeed unfortunate to lose an engine that way, but certainly these issues are not confined to Holden.

However I find that lately it is becoming more evident that Holden are building/selling to a price not to a quality - evidence this by the woeful new Barina and Viva - both cars inferior in a number of crucial areas to the old Barina and Astra. Maybe they have to sell cheap to survive in a cut throat market, where there are over 100 models of car to choose from and local Manufacturers are given no tangible assistance from the Federal Government ( I do realise all the vehicles mentioned are from OS!)

Hopefully the new VE is not just built to a price.;)

I guess these things happen but really shouldn't. It's certainly not an unreasonable expectation that when you buy a brand new car, particularly a premium model (and premium priced), you'd expect it to be perfect.

At least the dealer is doing the right thing but if it were me I'd never trust the car again.

Just my 2c

The fortunate thing is everybody doesnt have the same point of view as yourself otherwise Aussie made cars would be a thing of the past. When they learn to build cars that dont have problems or break down, things may change. But you can also buy a car for more than twice the price of a Clubsport and still have it break down. Only ones that seem to have it right are the very ones that are scaring the big 3 in the USA, ironically

Every manufacturer has failures in new cars. I was waching "The Carshow" the other night where they featured a $136,000 2006 Ford Mustang convertible. It died while the presenter was test driving it. The story ended with pictures of it being dragged up onto the back of a tilt tray. What an advert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck with the Clubsport though, it would be shattering. -Let us know what the problem was if you find out.

:errr: 1st episode of the latest Top Gear and Jeremy Clarkson admitted that he has never completed one journey in his Ford GT40 since buying it brand spanking new - how's that for reliability?
