Hi Guys,
I was just wondering if anybody here has organised to look at a car for sale and just not showed up.
If so what was your reason and did you eventually call the buyer back?
I''ve had two guys in the last week say they were coming to look at my car, so I arranged a time and left work early to meet them and they just never showed up. I tried to call them and got no answer.
Anyways I hope they are either dead or in a coma cause the least they could have done was send an sms saying they weren't coming.
I'm so sick of trying to sell this car :vpo:

Yes mate I know exactly where you are coming from.:cussing:
It's happened a few times now with me but I can usually pick which ones are not going to bother. I have experienced this lately whilst trying to sell my CBR 1000.
If I have changed my mind about viewing a sale then I do the right thing and show a bit of courtesy and let the seller know that I am not coming.
Not too many people do that these days!
Anyway best of luck trying to sell it mate.

Me too. Just sold my VL and had this happen at 3 or 4 times. The buyer who purchased the car sounded genuine over the phone and was in fact very happy. Good luck! :diddy:

i would just love a call!!! im trying to sell my VX 2 Acclaim and can't even get a call. The used marklet has died in the arse, don't want to know what bringing the VE onto the market will do.
They say that the trade in price you get with a dealer is the price you pay for not going through the hassle of trying to sell privately.

yeh i would be very annoyed in your situation....
I must admit, the last 2 cars i have sold the buyer was after the car like a fat kid on a cupcake.

Yeh i think some people are either too weak to tell u on the phone that they arent that keen or they are just tyre kickers.
You should always get their details anyway when arranging an appointment, because this is a complete stranger that u have told when you are or are not at home.
Best security is to take their number, call them back and make the appointment, will get rid of no shows too.
By the way i was selling an exhaust on this site and had 2 different members arrange to come and get it. One had a couple of emails and phone calls and I even said "so u definetely want me to keep it for u",... well no show, what a rude tosser.
Anyway got more on ebay for it than what i was going to sell it to him for.

I was trying to sell my Turbo Pulsar a few years ago and had a few people do this...... Then the best thing of all happened! I had a guy rock up and THRASH my car senseless then say i'll take it. Shook hands and he said he would come back tomorrow with the money...... Silly me didnt get a deposit.
2 days later he hasnt showed up and his mobile phone will not answer  Pity the low life rang from his mums house and i still had that number in my mobiles received calls ;) Gave that a call and he wasnt home so I called back a few times a night for the next 3 days and got him..... To be handed back to his mother who told me to stop bugging him as I as being a pest! At about that stage i layed into her about her son being a waste of space. Made me feel a bit better.
Bottom line is there is some real deal drop kicks out there and they all read the trading post and ring people about cars :flip2:

I hear ya !!
I've had six of these so far while trying to sell my Triumph.
Two have even called after not showing up, set another time to view the bike & still didn't turn up.
Whatever happened to common courtesy?

Couple of things I have done when selling cars is:
Get a return phone no (not foolproof but can help chase forgetful ones).
Arrange to meet anywhere else NOT at your home address, eg: local servo, park, street corner, mate's place, place near seller etc. This is "neutral territory", doesn't give potential thief your address for a return visit in the wee hours. (dont show rego papers until a substantial deposit is in hand)
Make a time and state you will be there for 15 mins, make it convenient for both them and yourself - tell them to ring if they are running late. If they dont show go on with your life - wait for the next one.
Took a month to sell my wife's old car, adjusted the price down a bit weekly, was patient - slowly slowly catchee monkey - make sure the car is in tip top nick, clean. Dont underestimate the power of the stuck on For Sale notice for locals. I was much happier with $2.5K extra in my pocket for the little effort it took.
Finally, with a performance car, YOU drive, they ride, when the deposit and their licence is in hand, THEY drive, you ride.

That is simply RUDE!!! No one anymore shows the common courtesy of calling if by any chance they can't make it.
The people that stand people up without letting them know are scum.

Don't knock of work and loose money, have them come to your work place (if thats ok with work) or meet them on the way home, if they are genuine they will show, have heard to many stories of performance cars stolen after potential buyers check them out at your home address.

I agree, you cant be too careful inviting complete strangers to your house just to look around. I sold my VR not too long ago by leaving it at the end of my street, daylight only. Not many people these days don't own a mobile phone, keep the car close to you and tell them to give you a quick ring when they are at the car. At least this worked for me...

I feel your pain, it's a total pain in the ass, some people are too imoral to call and advise that they aren't able to make it.

So...anyone want to buy a VT 2 Acclaim? :jester:
The other down side is that the longer I'm trying to sell it the more it depreciates. I hate watching the arse end fall out of the market :moon:

holden commodore sales have dropped by 26% and fords by 20% the only way you can move em is to sell em cchheeappp, fuel prices have ****ed everyone.
I also wont let them drive without a deposit and state so in my ad, im not going to risk a $2000 excess and possible non coverage of insurance for some numbnut so he can drive it.

Sometimes people have more happening than we see.
I mentioned a no show earlier in this post, and have to give respect, the guy has contacted me and given a very acceptable reason.
Respect u for that mate.
But of course I still would recomend for anyone to get contact details prior to a meeting for security reasons.

But I do agree, there are some shockers out there...but isnt that in every job?? Not every profession is sqeaky clean. But I'm just saying that I hate when people dont make true to there word, and turn up. How friggin hard is it to say "I cant make it sorry"?

I just hate the way any car salesman wants me to have to buy it today or theres no way i'm serious, well hello i think about it overnight or i dont buy. Well sh*t, i was only looking when u rocked up and started pushin.
Unfortunately with car sales, the dealer makes money regardless of whether the person needs to buy, or should buy, and many tactics are used. Its only fair that the buyer uses a couple of tactiscs.
Sh*t i have only recently had this old BS tactis used on me " Oh i will just go discuss that with my manager" But first they try him on the phone, while what is really happening is the phone intercom is left open and the manger and salesman listento u & ur wife discuss the purchase. They then know exactly who and what to play when they come back.

Wouldn't work, i wouldn't even consider stumping up for a deposit unless i had taken the vehicle for a test drive, how can you decide on a car if you haven't felt how it drives, I just bought a car from someone who let me drive it, i only wanted to go around the block, and refused another becasue he wouldn't let me drive it, your choice i guess.

I would rather lose the sale than let a tosser thrash it for fun, When I started putting that requirment In my add I had shit loads less calls which is what I was hoping, dont think becuase 100 people call you there all interested.....I stick by that rule it saves me wasting time with test pilots..

At the end of the day a buyer needs a test drive to confirm that you are selling them a sound working car.
But if they haven't had a good look at the car, discussed it service history, ask about any accidents or dicussed mods & insurance (for a performance car), you can be pretty sure that they have just turned up for the test drive.
It's at this point I usually ask about their pre-aproved finance and if they don't have it I tell them to get in line behind the serious buyers and send them on their way.

That's fine by me - but then you dont look like a serious buyer. I've seen and heard of too many dickheads doing the tyre kicking bit for me to trust anyone but a close friend or famly member driving my performance car in a responsible manner.
A serious buyer who really wants to buy the car will abide by my rules or it's too bad so sad - seeya later.

some private buyers may have a few cars to look at on the way and buy another one before they get to see yours.
son sold his VL recently had a few no shows via the net. put in the trading post got a number of call first morning. some wer coming that arvo thought at least one would come. but two came at the same time, that was cool, they were trying to outbid each other to get it
So try to get more than one to turn up at the same time and sit back and watch the fun.

What it comes down to is that these days its an educatated purchace. Research....Just google something and you have opinions from both sides on the product.
The product sells/should sell it self... I mean look at a new ss or hsv....
If you dont know what your looking for or at then whos fault is that?.
Salesguys just need to know there specs and prices. Simple.

A bit of a lesson learnt for me a few years ago, I was selling my 04 yzf 750 cheap 6mths old small kms. A guy rocked up wanting to ride it so I gave him a lid and took him on the back easily does it. When I got back he asked if I could just do a couple of laps WOT up and down the street to see if any smoke from zorst. When I returned he had given a bumbag to my girlfriend apparently containing 5k cash and liscence etc and asked if he could now have a quick squirt? I asked the ex if this was the case and she said yes so I handed over the pride and joy to watch him scream off up the road never to return. I instantly opened the bumbag [empty], yelled at the dumb donut of a girlfriend and called the cops. Got the bike back 2days later unharmed but very scary senario.....will NEVER do that again!
TEST PILOTS SUCK ONLY IF CASH IS IN YOUR HAND!
just tell em to rock up to your work and check it out when your on break. if they dont show up, no time lost :)
