View Full Version : Rear Tyre Wear on Utes

Guys,
I inspected all the tyres on sunday, ripping off all the wheels & clean the rims inside & out & noticed some good tyre wear happening on the rears!
The wear is from the middle of the tyre to the inside & is on the minimal legal limit. The outer part from the middle has still got enough tread for some reason.
My ute is lowered, but not to low. i think 25 mm from standard ride height. If i went any lower, the guys who lowered it (WA Suspensions) said i'd need to fit cambers for the ride height to stop the wheels from splaying.
I just cant figure out why i've got wear like this...
Thankyou to all who reply,
Justin

Mate,
Any lowering on utes has the potential to do that from what I can gather. Apparently each one is a little different, but I know mine suffers the same problem with low king spring in the back, which aren't particularly low (probably about the same difference as yours). Camber kit, or regular tyre changes - up to you.
Cheers
Pete

Thanks Pete.
My ute has done 62,000 kms so i shouldn't really complain to much.

& yes another stupid thing, the wheels haven't been rotated for 40,000 kms i think so with this in mind, i reckon closer to 100,000 kms out the bridgey's instead of wearing out the 2 rears!!!
Justin, your a DICKHEAD!!!

The holden utes are always going to wear the insides of rear tires out aster than the outside cause of how the IRS squats under power.
You should be happy as larry with that many k's out of rear tires on an SS ute

62k kms? be very thankful even at stock ride height to get that out of the rears.
with my ultralow at the reared ute, it took me about 25k kms to wear out completely a set of orignal RE070's, without any rotation and plenty of punishment (apart from continual burnouts)
if you rotate every 5k kms and keep a record of how theyve been rotated, youll be possibly what yove got out of a set, which cant be complained about. its a rwd v8 ute with an lsd, how many more kms do you want.

I was going through rears every 15 000 ks. (Inside half of tyre down to wire, outside half still with 80%). Add a camber kit and rotate regulary. Problem solved.

The tyres have lasted me for so long as i don't do burnouts & i drive ok.
Will be looking into the camber kit very soon & 2 new rear tyres, probably Potenza G III's. Prices bloody vary with these things.
