That goes somewhere close to understanding the huge amount of money F1 drivers get paid.... Very sad, but the efforts of the other drivers and marshalls to help the drivers in trouble is inspiring.

That was pretty heavy, puts a bit of a lump in the throat. It's staggering the amount of damage high-speeds can inflict.

Am I right in thinking that after Sennas crash they started using neck braces as part of the standard race gear?

The suspension arm of Senna's car went through his head, so i'm not sure a neck brace would have saved him...

That was a very dignified compilation, by far the best one I've seen. I feel the pain of the fellow drivers who assisted in trying to put out the fuel fires with no luck. All they could do is stand back and watch... The Tom Pryce clip of the fire marshall getting chopped in half at Kyalami is intense. The fire extinguisher that the marshall who got hit was carrying copped Tom Pryce in the head and killed him instantly.

Great find mate.

Wow ... that sort of brings home just how dangerous F1 is, and also just how far they have come in terms of safety.

There must be some real luck involved when you consider some of the accidents that people have walked away from, Martin Brundle in Adelaide springs to mind. His car flipped about 20 times and was completely torn in half but he was fine. I can still remember Senna's crash like it was yesterday, that crash and 9/11 are burned into my brain forever I think ...

I remember the Senna crash and there was a shot with a huge pool of blood around Him...... They have never showed that footage again and I knew then he was gone.....

The suspension arm penetrated his neck between his shououlders and the start of his helmet. Since that crash they have added a massive amount of structure around the head and helmet area... look a how much his head protrudes from the cockpit compared to the current f1 guys...there eyes are the lowest part you can see.....

The suspension arm actually penetrated his helmet above his right eyebrow, and forced a large chuck of his skull into his brain. He was brain dead for about four hours before they took him off life support.

I have never looked into it that closely... It was my understanding ... Happy to stand corrected....

The rest still stands just the point of impact was different....The cokpits have been massively modified to avoind debris interacting with the driver

i was under the impression that it was the front wheel that hit senna in the head.

thats why all the F1 wheels are now tethered to the suspension?????

but it was a moving video, you can tell the real sportsman ship when people are not only willing to give up a race but risk their lives and run into a flaming wreckage to try and save a fellow driver.

not a bad find at all some pretty full on crashes there. always bad to see people get KIA... you might say thats pretty graphic. but if you wanna see graphic do a google for "mining accidents or fatalities"

because in my time working in the mines for over 10 years you see some pretty messed up shit especial pulling your "best mate" from a sampler who got his head smashed in by a 3 tonne hydralic ram....

Great video and tribute the racers who have tragically met their end.

I, (like many I guess) was waiting for the SENNA footage.

I was at Adelaide in '93 when Senna won. Hours after the race had finished Tina Turner was playing a concert in the park at the track and Senna came out on stage to thank everyone. I couldnt believe he would be still at the track. I thought for sure he would be glitzing it up at some cocktail party or similar. The song she was playing at the time was "simply the best"

I couldnt think of a more appropriate song.

He died the next year. The footage they showed 'live' I have never seen again. From memory, I can remember seeing his head fall forward seconds after the crash.

Very sad.

The guy trying to roll the car over is David Purley, who was a friend of Roger Williamson. I've got an old F1 book that has a good write up on this accident, Purley was given a medal for bravery for what he did in vain. I'd seen video footage of that without music ages ago, to this day as a lifelong motorsport fan watching Roger Williamson burn to death on TV is the worst thing I have ever seen.

That would be the hardest part if the compilation to watch for me, Purley is trying in vain to get the bloke out but there's really nothing you could do with a burning upside down car. Cant imagine what he was feeling for a long time afterwards but his actions show how shattered he was

Very good tribute to motorsport drivers its amazing how much safer motorsport has become 300+kph is still dangerous but the death's caused by fire alone was sickening what a way to die.It makes you think hard why I acctualy want a 500hp 300kph street car.

What's sadder is that the guys standing around were the safety marshalls and that Zandvoort's highly touted "Mobile saftey unit" didn't actually arrive on the scene until there was no hope of saving the guys life. The one thing is though, that accident led to a major change in F1 safety, which it can be argued played a major part in saving the life of Niki Lauda some three years on.
If you can find the footage, some of the most disturbing f1 crashes are one's people actually survived, probably the worst is what happened to Clay Reggazoni at Long Beach in 1980, when he had the throttle jam open at the end of the straight and had nowhere to go but the wall. It's a miracle that the guy survived to live out his days in a wheelchair. Also in regards to the Gilles Villeneuve death, while his death was tragic under any circumstance, if your ever get a chance to read about the situation between himself and Ferrari team mate Didier Pironi at the time of Villeneuve's death, it makes it even sadder.

hey, i didnt have a chance to see the link either before it got removed, but after some searching, came upon 2 videos..................very very bad crashes and most are fatal.........word of warning, watch before eating.

Watch for the guy running away from cops in 4 wheel drive (2.35) then getting thrown out of car while car flipped over. He was then left on on coming traffic and getting run over cuple times. VERY SAD

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oP5lTJC2YZU

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDKkMNvxT6Q

Cant go without saying it but what hurts me inside isnt so much the seeing actual accident but the reaction and attempts of other drivers trying to save there mates. The 2 that got me most were of the accident at 4.30(in the 10min vid) how Siegfried Stohr reacts after running into the back of his team mate Riccardo Patrese, and in the middle was the mechanic trying to start the car up after it had stalled.

And of course the worst one was the first accident of the video(of the 10 min vid) of Roger Williamsons car on fire. His mate David Purley reaction after he abandoned his own race in an attempt to rescue him. "Williamson not injured was heard shouting to Purley to get him out as Purley tried to turn the car upright. the race continued while Purley tried to save his mate"

The 4 min one requires logging in as it classes as adult material or something.
However if u cant be bothered, the 10 min video is much better with appropriate music and is very well made.
Here are the 2 links..........if it wont work again for some reason, let me know and i will PM link to you, and mayb then u can post it up for me.

I can understand why they'd ban it. You really don't wanna watch it. Wish i didn't.

Shocking..... :errr: The guy hitting the marshall and instantly killing him when his teammate stalled was shocking. The drivers reaction...... would of been hard for him to race again i'd imagine.

Just shows the fine line between staying alive and losing your life at those speeds. Great that the race cars now are a lot stronger protecting the drivers, but still there is a fine line.

true, but i've never seen a vid of "normal" car crashes...

If youve ever seen it in real life you wouldnt want too, it messes with your mind...

I remember when i was about 6 or 7, on the great ocean road, in the distance we saw a motorbike go under a landcruiser as it was lying down doing high speed on the wrong side of the road...

Four wheel drive lost a wheel, motorbike rider lost his guts (literally) and his life...

very upsetting.. and still think of it to the day.

But good footage, yes it is sickening to think its real.. but its also a fitting tribue to those drivers who have passed.. and to make us all realise theres always dangers in any vehicle.. even the professionals make fatal mistakes.
