I was at Shannons recently, looking at the Auction cars. There was an SLR 5000 there, the description for which said, that it " could" be a "preproduction" A9X, as it had a Salisbury diff, HQ discs etc. There was another guy alongside me looking at the car who obviously knew a lot about A9Xs, & as I also owned one in the past, we struck up a conversation.
This guy, nice bloke he was too, showed me some "paperwork", & said "well, I've just sold this!" "This" was one of 4 "factory" Marlboro .05 Promotional hatchbacks. Not a race car mind you, but identical in external appearance. I was told it had a genuine 44000 ks on the clock! Anyway, I said "what did you get for that--$100k?" He said, "You're a long way off--I just sold it for $250000!!
He also mentioned that the '79 car, now in the Bowden collection, is now estimated to be worth over $600k--and I can remember, in early '87, at an HDT Owner's Club meeting, when P.B. said that the '79 car was for sale, & that if anyone had $25k, they could have it!!!-how times change.
Cheers, Pickles.
