I have a potential buyer coming to look at my car tomorrow and he's offered me $8000 cash for it.

The car is a VT series 2 Acclaim V6 Auto with 106K on the clock, it has 17" alloys and GTO tailights + black headlights to match. It's very well kept however has a few very minor marks in the body work.

Is $8000 a reasonable offer? I'm really not sure anymore?

G'day there mate.

These off carsales.com.au for reference:

Average Private Price $7,700 - $10,000
Trade In Price Guide $6,000 - $7,300
Average km+ 120,000 - 150,000
Price When New (RRP)+ $36,170

$8k sounds reasonable.

Good luck with it and hope to see ya in an LS1 soon!

Cheers,

Macca

Take it. With VE just around the corner, and fuel prices not getting any better, Commodore is shifting right back. VT's are going to be were VS are now and so on...not taking $8,000 now might get you $5,000 later. Maybe go for $8,500 or be cheeky and try $9,000. Try and be firm, but dont let em walk.:burnout:

Thanks for the figures.

I just wanted to make sure my dire need for a Monaro wasn't clouding my vision :driving:

Hopefully this guy doesn't be an ass and backflip on me.

Cheers

This is something I cop all the time in response to adverts, I now have a standard reply to *lowballing*....Yes the price is open to negotiation but not over the phone.......Why ?
The price offered is a tester, accept it and in 90% of cases you'll never recieve the price offerred as you have just relayed to the buyer how desperate you are to sell. the excuses will come hard and fast ...including its the wrong colour...I thought the Ks were lower......this needs repair before I'd be happy with it, $xxxx is all the money I have which translates to $xxxx is all the money I WANT to spend.....the list is endless when it comes to ankle tapers..........anyways if its 9K for your trade and a Monaro you desire look no further. ......http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=56112

It all depends how desperate you are I guess. But if you have not said yes to the offer wait and see IF the buyer likes the car. Questions to ask?

Does he like it enough to buy it?
Does he only have $8000 ?- if so you can pull things off the car to meet his budget!
Is his offer Cash. ie Will he pick the car up today!?

At the end of the day it will depend how desperate he is to buy and how desperate you are to sell....

My 2 bobs worth, markone2 knows what he is talking about......... its all about negotiating skills........... at the end of the day you have to know the $ figure you want and be prepared to have the buyer walk away...... the buyer should be going in with the same attitude............I reckon if he's gone in with 8K on an 11K ad there is room to move the buyer up (depending on the quality of the car).................. then you have to look at the benefit of making $500 versus the cost of advertising and so on and theres always the PIA (pain in ar$e) factor to consider as well...............If it was a Co Car business owned you could always ask for 50% in cash & 50% documented and claim the loss on tax and make up the shortfall............. but thats a whole other story :D

PS very nice Monaro marone2:bravo:

Thanks for the offer Markone2, but I've already got a car picked out.

I called the guy who was supposedly coming to look at the car and he said he was going to look at another one this arvo and get back to me. Yeah sure, anyways he might still call but I'm not waiting for it.

Never take the first offer...ever. If they want it theyll pay, Mark12 is on the money. Its hard when you are desperate to be rid of it but youll only rip yourself off. Just pretend you got all the time in the world to sell.

I recently sold a vt exec with monaro tails, nice alpine cd, 17in VX ss wheels, low km's lowered and quite clean n straight. The holden dealer offered me 7500 as a trade in on my now VY2SS and regretfully sold private for 9500.
that was about 6 months ago and prices have dropped further. Also with the VE around the corner... I would seriously consider it. sorry but they just keep dropping in value. hope that helps.
