Hey Guys,
After searching this forum and coming up with nothing I thought I would ask the question. Looking to purchase some drag rubber for the strip and before I do was looking for a set of chasers to throw them on to. It seems I have one dilemma I have been told that the 15"s will not fit on the clubby becasue of the larger brake calipers on HSV's  . I then got told they don't come in a 16"s at all:flamin: . Can anyone throw some light on this subject and give me an alternative. I have seen other forum members with chasers on the backs of their cars and assumed they were 16"s. I can get 2 x 16" alloys from Bob Jane for $125 each but didn't want to waste the extra $100 per wheel as chasers are only $20 each. Rubber I was looking at is M/T street radial 255/50/16
Cheers

Your other option is to buy a set of stock rear Commodore brakes as fitted to most VT onwards non-HSV Commodores and swap the smaller calipers mounting brackets and rotors for your larger ones when you want to do the drags. If reasonably handy with spanners it should only take about 30mins to do, just make sure you havent got the handbrake on when you do it !
This may seem like a strange option , but due to the caliper on the HSV (unless its the bigger 4 piston set up) being the same as the stock Commodore caliper, you can just swap the rotors and mounting brackets from your car and put stock Commodore calipers mount brackets and rotors on without needing to dis-connect the brake lines.
You could then run the 15" chasers for the drags. Stock rear rotor/caliper setups are pretty much like bums........everybody has one sitting in the shed somewhere and as such can be picked up VERY cheaply. Add to this your $20 15" chasers + 15" ETs and it'll probably work out cheaper than buying 16" rims and 16" ET's.
Admittedly more hassle doing it this way, but potentially more coin saved too. It's an option anyway.
Alternatively source a set of 17" rims with RE-55s or similar semi-comp tyres but this could work out to be an even more expensive option unless you're in the right place at the right time.
HTH, Cheers.

Thanks guys,
I will continue the hunt for 16"s.
TigerSS thanks for the advice, I think I will try and track down the 16"s before I go with your alternative. I still have the standard HSV brakes so should just fit straight on.
Cheers

look for some 2nd hand 16 x 8 Holden alloys. VT Caprice, WH Stato, many had 16 x 8's.
BTW, you may still have to roll the guards a little, the 255 M/T's are very wide! Castle Hill Exhaust Centre rolled mine for $100 and did a great job.

I used my 16"caprice wheels and have the 255 MT's on them. Nick from NVU can supply botht the steel chasers and the caprice rims.

Does any one know a cheap alternative for a HSV R8 and senator? Nothing fits over those big brakes apart from an 18". I'd rather not change callipers as well.

If its a VXii clubby - stock 15 chasers will fit no probs - could check what your spare is (mine was a space saver and holden $ saver 205/65/15 or similar on black pursuit / chaser rim with an ugly red 80km/hr max sticker facing out - very uncool)
I had this same setup - 26 x 15" hoosiers on rear with 15 x 8 rims and 4 x 15 Hoosier Quik time on 15 x 6 rim on front
IF upgraded brakes from std clubby - probably wont fit (think this may have been an option
IF VXiiR8 - 15's def wont fit
but beware of spending $ on really good slicks as - if you upgrade to the VY or newer HSV clubby the brake discs are bigger - but can always sell them - easy commodity to move
BTW proper drag slicks bit of pita re having to change at track (espec if have to do fronts and rears) - much prefer current setup of drag radials on 17" rim and can drive to track and line up, then drive home and even wait till weekend to change - however there is a grip difference - but its easier to drive as the drag slicks are cross ply and they are incompatible with the std front steel belted radials (farken hairy to steer without proper front runners)
sorry for the long explanation but thought it may help if it saves you some $ if you can fit 15's
