Are these a common occurance?
I got new belts about 7000km ago and they are whinging again. They stop when the car warms up, but when starting in the morning they can be fairly noisy. Is this a common sort of thing, coz this is twice within 15 thousand kms that they have started to be noisy again. I presume a lather of wd40 or rp7 will fix this, but is it just an ls1 thing or my car?

For the best, long term results, I have always used a candle or soap. While the motor is running, CAREFULLY, apply the candle/soap to the inside & outside surfaces of the belt.
Have you also checked the idler pulley bearings ????

Hey, I know this is an old thread, but I cured my belt noise a while back. Found that the power steer pulleywas about 3-4 mm forward of the rest of the pulleys. In stead of having it aligned, I spaced the belt tensioner forward about 2-3mm with 2 stainless washers. It gives the belt a smaller angle to turn and stops the squeak.

I'm having the same problem too, I'll be taking it in on the weekend, there are 2 things the idler pulley or the AC pulley. They're the 2 common culprits. Will let you know how it goes.
how did you go with the pulleys mate?

several weeks of dousing it with wd40/rp7 seemed to work. Although on a seperate note, i ran out of air cond and that needs to be re-gassed. Its always something with these things!

I thought that WD40 / RP7 may cause the rubber in the belt to degrade. If you've already checked and confirmed it's OK then that's good, if not then I'd be holding back on spraying an oil and solvent mixture all over the belt.

Not to mention belt slippage and all the problems associated with it...
As others have said, a bar of soap works best.

Belt Grip from CRC is supposed to resolve this problem whilst not degrading the belt rubber. It cost about $10 for a can.

didnt know that...duely noted, cheers all :)
another product you can use is interior trim protector like mothers or meguires interior trim protector. Works a treat for me. But you might find that you will need to apply liberally a couple of times. Then it should be right for a while.

i use a quick spray of wd40 every 2 weeks or so when i check the oil and water, never had a problem myself, i would not recommend 2drench it in wd40, it is pretty slippery stuff

Not sure about new belts every 7000km but my SS VX pulley’s/belt started to get noisy at approx 130,000 k. I had the pulleys and belt replaced at the 140,000 k service and all is quiet again. I've had the car since new and that’s the only time they've been touched, no WD40 or mint flavoured velvet soap! :woohoo: maybe the dealer lubricated them when it was regularly serviced or it was just comes down to good ol Holden ingenuity from day one.
