Why is it that HSV Club members very rarely do the basic mods to their car to improve performance. I spoke to some at a recent HSV event and even the GTS MAF pipe, better exhausts and edits are frowned apon by the club. I know they like to keep things original but the MAF pipe is HSV as is the original mafless edit and generally the exhausts are just a HM product anyway.
I found the attitude of the club in QLD to be VERY different to the guys ive met through the LS1 forum.

Very different to NSW - it's mod city there.
Guess it depends on the group of people at a particular time

It would be down right boring if we didnt mod our cars even slightly. I was going to join the HSV club Qld but heard it was a bit of an old boys club. (only from what i was told). Wonder what they would say about a turboed HSV or do they not let in modded HSV if they have gone to far.

just don't understand it?? why wouldn't you want to make a great car even better? could understand if it was a mercedes or rolls royce club.

The guys i spoke to were nice guys but the attitude they were portraying was that HSV's had to be completely original and untouched by ANY mod. In one guys eyes even changing to another brand of tyre from original was a no-no. Definately a bit of a "old boys" club from what i saw. Some of them knew about unichips but not edits, its like talking to guys from 4 yrs ago. Its strange to talk to ppl that have owned 3-4 HSV's and none have had ANY mods to them at all. Quite a different experiance to here.

As far as the Victorian Club is concerned, the Vice President would certainly not agree with you!
Cheers, Pickles.
A stock LS1 (say a VX CLubby) is such a doughy gutless unexciting car to drive standard IMO. You need the edit, the heades and exhaust, diff gears etc to make it a fun car to drive! Make it a real car! Totally agree with you guys!

To them their HSV is what a MB or RR is to their owners.
I see it from both views, I spend money on my ute to make it not original, I also spend money on my '81 bmw 323i to keep it as original as it left the factory..... some things maybe we aren't meant to understand

Now that I own a HSV - how pretentious - I can see that keeping the VL or VN Groups A, or the VS GTS-R stock would be an advantage.
Mine isn't stock, it goes and stops much better than that and is exactly how I wanted it.
Each to their own though I 'spose.
OT - I was up in Shepp on sunday and saw a HSV club drive day at DECA. Some very nice cars getting about.
Cheers,

Well they would just love me then wouldn't they :stick:
Obviously I have modified the Coupe from top to bottom, but I haven't touched the Avalanche. Probably because it's the "family car", it's bloody heavy, and it's a big fat wagon. Next car will be a sedan and it will almost certainly be modified. I am definately from the "why not make a great car even better" school.

You should head south more often VooDoo because as far as the Victorian club is concerned your comments are quite unfounded.
Sure you will always get the 'purist' who want to keep the car totally original but there are far more members who are interested in modifying their cars.

When "stockers" like your VY R8 go like they do. Who needs mods.
Thanks again for the spin Mark.
What was the result ffom DECA. I got a job and had to leave just as you came off the pan.

No worries Grant it was a pleasure to take you for a few laps around Winton and that extra ballast on the passenger side ceratain helped around the sweeper.
As for Deca I think I snapped the input shaft on the Holinger as I went to grab second.I haven't pulled it apart yet but thats what it will be.
It was actually quite amusing when one of the officials ran upto me and suggested that I rip the rego plate off because there was a couple of TOG officers sitting in the patrol car observing what was going on.
I think he is still trying to work out why I just laughed at him and said "she'll be right mate don't worry about em"

The argument is that once a car is modded it is no longer a HSV. It is your creation from that point on. If I were buying a HSV I would want an original car. But everyone has their own view on this.
But think how much an original Falcon GT sells for.

If you think the HSV club in Brisbane are a little strange. Try the ones that call them selves "The Lion's Pride" :weirdo:

And how interesting it was at a recent private dyno day, when most of the members had GTS's (5) (what is it when you have more than 1 GTS) and put them on the dyno, got the regular 235-245 RwkW and had a bit of a giggle when my just a clubbie went on and reeled off 265+ rwkw - they wanted to know if the dyno was starting to play up.
sort of made them pay a bit of attention to cars other than the ones in the club
Mind you, a couple of them had a bit more done to them (supercharger) and got higher kW's and they do seem to keep nice cars (except they get autographs over engine bits - not sure how these specifically add value)
Dont know how they got over C4B's mods to a GTS or Bullets mods to the Monaro
Seem like nice enough guys (well at least if you own a HSV)

The QLD HSV Club should be named the Greg Sharp HSV Club it think he's been president since 1988. Nice bloke but I think the committee is very set in there ways.
When I was on the committee of the Capricorn HSV Owners Club, we tried to arrange some joint meets. But they weren't interested as they felt it should be one club per state.

Our guys in Townsville aren't really worried about getting an officially recognised status even though we call ourselves the North Queensland HSV and LS1 Club. We have been taking steps to organise ourselves better but we meet regularly and find that many prefer the carefree attitude to cruising and modding.

Just the fact that not one person from the "Brisbane" HSV club has posted shows the attitudes. Dont get me wrong, the guys i spoke to were nice enough blokes who love their Holdens but are very different people to members here.

no matter what you do to a HSV, engine mods or other, its still a HSV, it says so on the build plate...
thats my opinion
Just the fact that not one person from the "Brisbane" HSV club has posted shows the attitudes.
As far as I know there's only two of us on here (me and Lochie)...... and I didn't think my situation was really going to help the whole "HSV Club members don't modify their cars" argument, so I thought I'd keep quiet.
