Evening,

Go to the Technical LS1 section and there is a Stickey which covers this and a whole range of other tech Q's.

Cheers,

Hogs.

hey ezyb, personally I wouldn't touch any of them. In my opinion, Sureflo or Difilippo are the only options worth considering ;)

hi ezyb ive got a redback 2.5 inch cat back system.its not too bad if ur got a tight buget but if u have the money go for the difilipo or sureflo system ,better quality and better off in the long run.also are u looking too get it tuned as well coz i think it will make a huge diffrence.

cheers scotty.

Hey Scotty

Thanks for your feedback.
Do you have extractors on urs aswell?

Yeh i might get an LS1 edit done down the rd as funds are limited.

I have a Super cat system, which I bought as a replacement for a Sureflo system. It's O.K. does the job. At cruising speeds it tends to drone a bit, however it does make good power, unlike the other one.

A freind just put a full stainless x-force system on his monaro - the build quality looked great (welds inside extractor cones was ground flush for good flow etc)

Has made a huge difference in low/midrange, and the car hasn't had a tune yet

it is however not at the cheaper end of systems

i agree, x-force tends to get the thumbs up...redbacks alright too, for those on the budget...supercat i wouldnt bother with, made in asia shite.

I got a twin 2.5" sureflo on mine, only made 6rwkw but smoothed out the torque curve - before it was staggered and the power was a bit all over the place. I had a quiet system put on, which is indeed quiet until you nail it - and with a modded k & n air charger kit, its louder when at WOT

I hear Difflipo make good systems also. Up to you mate, Difiilip or Sureflo if you can afford it. X-force are goodf as stated, redback not so bad either, but leave the supercat alone. They are a bit cheapishly made and are a bit dodgy

di fillipo system is the best system available imo, although a little expensive . If on a budget then redback wouild be the way to go.

Ask this 10 times in 10 places and get 100 different opinions.

Personally i found the Sureflow system i have and others ive seen to be the best quality and made good power. The old redback system was off-the-shelf junk.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

I hear Xforce is made here but the labour is done in asia. Can anyone confirm that?

I hear Difillippo are great...any places in victoria where they fit em?

Cheers guys

Don't know where you are but am sure G&D (sponsor) can supply and fit Di Filippo. Probably other places around too.

Hey ezyb,

Give G&D performance in Cranbourne a call. They did my Difilippo system, and their service was second to none.

Depending on which end of town you live, you have two options...
if you live closer to the western suburbs go to difillipo themselvs located in melton (i got them to fit my system)
or if you live on the other end probably easier for you to go G&D ...
makes no difference just whatever is easier, they are your options ...

Di Filippo is the way to go. If you cant afford it now save up a bit longer otherwise you will have to spend twice on an exhaust system.

Another quick question guys.

Do you reakon i should get hi flow cats or get the standard ones bashed out?

MNR-0
12-06-2006, 03:47 AM
Yeah. But make sure they are the 200 cells/sq. in. type - or you are wasting your time. Oh, and go stainless - like the spun magnaflow ones with 4-5" bodies. If you wont go to that extreme, its not worth changing your stock ones so just get them opened up.

Yeh Ezyb, My first mod to my VY was a Redback system.. try-y into 2.5 strait mufflers and no back muff and it sounds hot and “felt” to have better bottom end and top end not change in mid range.. and for $1800 installed not to bad I think!

Originally done by Noizworx up here in QLD long before i knew what an edit was. It made ok power for an off the shelf system (241rwkw on a PT dyno day) but the merge was very bad, i never liked the sound and it wore out after 18 mths. The new twin 3" i got was supposed to be to big on a cam only car but i was planning the turbo back then, first run with the new exhaust still cam only picked up .15sec at the track and got me a PB. That was the only change to the setup and the exhaust weighed a lot more than the redback too.

X Force is well made, but it is definately manufactured in Asia.

Most of the exhaust tubing available in Australia is in imperial - ie. 2",2 1/4", 2 1/2", 3" etc.

Most Asian exhaust tubing is metric - ie. 60mm, 70mm, 80mm, 90mm etc.

I have an Xforce twin 2.5" system with pacemaker triway extractors. I noticed a performance increase (yet to put it on a dyno).
The sound is exactly what I wanted (No drone at all on the freeway, but a loud and deep grunty V8 tone when you give it a bit of kick)

About a month ago my brother went for a redback system in his VX clubby, took it back the next weekend because it sounded horrible and he "claimed" to have lost power. He got it replaced for an Xforce system and has been happy ever since. (Altough the tone is different to mine because he still has his factory HSV extractors)

Same with my mates monoaro - you wouldn't know the system is there unless your foot is down and just a quiet burble when cruising at 100-110. As far as sound is concerned, I would describe it as the perfect system - meaty when you are under it, but quiet on the cruise.

ezyb: I will ask him tommorrow exactly how much $ he paid - he also got new high flow cats so that added a fair bit to it

Not to bad for a bolt on only car.

I love my Xforce 2 1/4 on my Calais auto. The system is a catback stainless and the sound is great with no drone. If you have the manual go the 2 1/2. I was impressed with the sound and an increase in midrange power.

I gort a supercat... hated the ESA. I liked the mild sound of the SUpercat, it sounded a little more "sophisticated" than the other 2 (I had on other G3's). I have opened cats and HSV 4-1 Extractors. The extractors calmed the drone, as did an old doona cover under the boot liner

I pulled 204RWKW with those mods (and mod intake)
