Hi, looking around for a new vehicle to suit my new 'lifestyle'. Anyway...

If I bought a used vehicle in NSW I might be interested in, with rego/CTP to December...take her back to S.A.

I'd want her on S.A. rego ASAP which is easy enough to sort, but with the split rego/CTP in NSW, how does that work from a refund point of view given it has 6 months left? Not sure how NSW works these things.....

Any help appreciated.

Not sure on CTP but you bought the car with 6mths rego from a NSW owner so as the new owner you get the refund from the RTA not the previous owner.

Yeah I was half convinced rego would be the same as other states in presenting the plates to S.A. reg and cancelling and waiting for a refund. Its the CTP part I dont understand at all.....

you get a pro rata refund on the ctp as well, but my understanding is the refund goes to the registered owner

A litttle off topis, but if your car or trailer gets stolen in NSW the RTA don't refund any rego??? Thieves I think...

Just my 2c worth

who has a bonafide NSW address.......I buy the odd one or two cars at the raffles with tiger plates....and long since given up trying to cash in the rego

not to mention that you need to transfer the rego to your name (more $$$) to get the refund, which works out to be less $$$ than what it cost to transfer..

Best idea is to have an agreement with the seller, you send him the plates back, he cancels the rego and splits the $$ or cuts the sale price
