i bought my VXII in feb this year and am now in a bit of a situation. I bought the car and noticed that it had a considerable amount of power more than my brothers stock VX SS, so i had it dynoed and low and behold 215 RWKW, after which Sonny pointed out that it had been edited before. I just recently put 3-46 gears in it now and was looking to put a cat back system on it to give it a bit more sound. But now i am thinking that i want the car edited again (as i dont know who done it, when it was done, and what mods were on the car when it was done, and now get it tuned to my new gears, and to the rest of the current state of the car)

I have reason to believe that the car was edited with a full exhaust system that has taken off and replaced with a VY HSV exhaust and headers (as the guy wanted his custom exhaust for his new car).

My situation is, i cannot afford both a re-tune with the cat back, but can afford just one of them (with the cat back i get some change as well).

Firstly do you guys think that my cars history warrents a retune for its current state i.e with the new 3-46 diff gears, VY HSV exhaust (when i believe it had a custom exhaust when edited), and just to get it running smoother and a bit more efficiently plus possibly increasing the KW slightly

Secondly if i decide to go with just the cat back, would this be better suited to the current tune (as it is not quite a full system, but is at least half way there)?? Also will just the cat back give me any increase in power or fuel efficiency??

Any guidance to which option to take is much appreciated.

cheers

Put it this way - if you add a decent cat-back onto your car it will still run, perhaps a little better than it does now. A re-tune may get more from it, however, it is difficult to say how much, if any.

I'd certainly wait until I'd finished all the mods I was gonna do, then, get the re-tune.

Cheers,

yeh spot on macca .. not point tuning, adding things, then going back for a retune once again. finish all your mods and if anything they will work there way into the tune already in the car ... then when your done get sonny to dyno it and have a look to see if there is much more gain to be had from a retune, might just only need a very slight touchup but my opinion would be leave the tune as is for now

It might be a mail order tune and they tend to be a bit conservative to cope with a standard engine or a range of mods don't they??

I know that a Mail Order Tune works well with a standard exhaust, a Cat-Back and a full system with Tri Y's.

There may be a decal on the PCM listing the Co that did the PCM Edit.
