could anyone help here, reverse feels like it's not even there in the selector. Does anyone know why this would be and how I might go about fixing this please?
Thanks in advance

Without sounding facetious, is the engine running when you try to select reverse? There is a solenoid that makes shifting into reverse very difficult if the engine is not on.

Otherwise, clutch, slave cylinder, etc may need to be checked out.

Also does this just happen when the car is cold?? I had the same sort of problem but found that if i shift to 1st gear first then put into reverse it just falls in like it should! Hope that will help you.

I used to have this problem with my old GTS (Had a T56 like u have) what i would do is put it in first, let the clutch out, roll forward about an inch, then select reverse and off you go. Try that and see how u go, usually works. My problems were just to a bad clutch.

Yeah same deal

I hve probs every now and then putting it into reverse when cold. I fix it by dropping it back into neutral, pump the cluth twice and in she goes. Or as the other guys said roll back a couple inches. Could this be a factory prob that can be fixed under warranty?????

a lot of manuals are like that - its just a matter of lining the shit up inside the gearbox as reverse does generally not have synchros - I think ford fits syncho reverse to their version of the T56, but holden doesn't

feel free to correct if i am wrong on this one

Every now and then i find mine wont go fully into reverse. So i just pull it back into neutral, let clutch out, push clutch in and away it goes. As Stevotski said, you just have to line everything up.

Clutch adjustment, cold plate sticking on gearbox splines and to face of flywheel. Work clutch in/out a few times. The manual mentions it. Make sure your seat is far enough forward so you get the pedal all the way to the floor.

ive got a t56 and my reverse is currently fkd, the bloke i bought the car off managed 2 fuk it after i put a deposit down and i didnt realise till after as my old boy picked the car up for me, but mine will let me select it bout 50% of the time and i have 2 hold it in otherwise it just jumps out and grinds and ya just cant hold it in sometimes it will just grind, ive tried 1st and shit but i think my selector is fkd up or somethink also my clutch needs a bleed so i will try that, where is the clutch bleed valve whilst im on the topic anyone???
cheers and yer do you think my box is fkd or would be a clutch issue.

Not a fix but a bandaid.

Just put it in third before you select reverse and it will just slot in perfectly.

nah there is something more than that wrong with mine, i can get it 2 select but it will never stay in unless forced and even then it will jump out, its a box job, but i dun think the rest of my box is that good either so doesnt really bother me, anyone know what synchro's ect are worth 2 rebuild a box?
cheers for clutch link

I have ss thunder with the same problem. It dose not matter if the ute is still or moving (slowly) it is as if reveres is locked out and it will not let you select it . I am still waiting for holden to let me know if they are fixing it or replacing it as it's still under wty only 22k's old.

Watch the clutch master slave cylinders in the VY and early VZ V8 cars - there was a batch that reacted with brake fluid in VYs and the sleeve pitted causing loss of hydraulic clutch pressure and inability to change or select gears.

More prevalent when cold, the symptoms lessen or disappear when warmed up. I knew of a warranty job on a VY SS ute for a bloke who started his car cold with the stick in 1st and the clutch pushed in and she bunny-hopped forward like the clutch was out and bashed into the wall of the garage.

Cheers
