Hey there all

Ok so I've gotten to the point where i'm sick of borrowing the girl's oldman's Camry :hmmm: everytime i need to tow something.

Has anyone seen a tow bars setup for a CV8 that isn't visible when the tongue/ball is off? Something like the S setup available for some models.

Don't tow enuff to warrant blowing a hole through the rear bumper of my pride and joy.

Cheers

Andy

What do u usually need to tow and how often? maybe an alternative is to buy a cheap car with a towbar, might cost u a little more but saves the monaro at the same time. I bought a little TX3 a while ago just as a runaround and it cost me 2k but it came with a tow bar even tho I don't use it.

There is only one factory towbar, a 1600kg one with the square tonque. This type stick out. You would need to find a 1200kg non genuine type with a flat tongue, if one exists.

It depends on the model of your CV8, if it is a Z series then this bar is no good as the tank relocation has meant that Holden have modified the rear of the car to allow the spare to fit in the boot. Below is a pict of the bar Rolabeem is talking about. I had it on my VTII Clubie and the tongue comes out under the rear bar.

This bar is for sale if it fits your CV8. Will even help you fit it if it is right for your car. PM me if you are interested

My SV8 is a great towcar .. I only wish I could drop the engine in my Falcon one-tonne so it had the same grunt but with the extra 200kg towing capacity!! :)

hi all, got a price on a haymen reece towbar 1600kg for my CV8, $655 includes fitting and the genuine loom which you need if you have reversing sensors or you pis$ fart around disconnecting the plug in the boot. I asked the guy regarding the under the bumper type bars as I too dont want to really cut my rear bar but he told me that haymen reece only do that one towbar to fit the monaro, and that the sedan types do not fit as the mounting holes are slightly different and you dont have the same room between the bumper and the spare wheel well as you do with the sedans. so the decision is either cut the rear bar or buy a second tow vehicle.

I have a towbar on my cv8 that does not require cutting the the bumper...

I also have 1 on my vz clusport that doesnt require me to cut the bar.....

I have a contact in brisbane and he is great with the knowledge about towbars.....

They are aftermarket bars. I only tow light stuff but they have 1200kg rating..

Hi Cobalt

I would be very interested in your Brisbane contact.

What's the price range for such a towbar?
Do you reckon he'd ship to Melbourne?

I'd really like one to carry the pushbikes around ...

Cheers

I tried to get a tow bar that didn't need the bumber cut when i first got my series one cv8, but was told that due to them being 100mm shorter in the boot than a sedan that aftermarket sedan bars wouldn't fit.

I'd like to speak to your brisbane guy about one that doesn't need the bumper cut as well

Thanks a lot Cobalt!

Ordered one last week, the 1200kg bar delivered to Melbourne for under $300. Takes a couple of weeks to get it though as these are made to order.
Btw they have excellent service at City Towbars!

The towbar in question is available directly from the manufacturer Boronia Towbars in Ferntree Gully VIC, ph. 03 9752 2642.

Details:
- Boronia Towbars Model HOL044
- For Holden Monaro V2 (Series 1, not sure about others)
- 1200 kg load capacity
- 90 kg static ball load (I'm pretty sure)
- No rear bar cut required, as the towbar goes around underneath the bumber

Towbar, towball, wiring kit, and installation $270 total. It doesn't look half bad either.

If you're in Queensland give City Towbars a call at 07 3856 2922 - they should be able to get one for you at a similar price.

Thanks again Cobalt for the info!

Cashie can you email me at <my forum id>@yahoo.com and I'll arrange a couple of quick shots for you.

I reckon all of these no cut bars are by Boronia.

Thanks

Dane

EDIT: Have just spoken to them, $290 fitted and wired for a VX Clubsport for those interested. I'll be getting one fitted in early January :)

Thats great news about that tow bar that doesnt require cutting on the monaro, has anyone got pics and how hard was it to install? did you guy do it yourself or did you have a company do it for you.
I am definatly interested but I don't know how a 1200kg bar would go towing a 20ft fibreglass boat??

It's easy.

Undo all the visible screws and plastic clips you can see going through the plastic under the bar, in the wheel arch (2 each side) and on top under the boot lid (4 clips). Then pull the carpet back behind each of your rear lights and you will see 2 nuts on either side in the bottom corner. Undo these and the bar slides right off! Oh and if you have reverse sensors then disconnect these before you slide!

I pulled mine apart last week but unfortunately the bar didn't line up properly. Boronia are sending me another one so in the mean time my pride and joy looks like it's been rear ended on conrod straight!

Thanks for that, I fitted mine a couple of weeks ago.
Was just as easy as you state above.

My bar also needed a bit of "persuasion" to fit.

Towed a 7x4 trailer all day yesterday with it, very happy with the result, I recommend this bar to everyone.

Cashie, apart from removing the rear bar how hard was it to fit to your monaro, does it mount up to a factory type location or did you have to drill holes and bolt up or something, apart from the tow bar did you have to purchase anything else?

Only one hole had to be drilled, it used existing studs/bolts for the rest.

I purchased a factory light loom and plug as well.
