Started a turbo buildup,:woohoo:

here's a few pic's of prototype manifolds, just in mild steel at this stage but will be sending them off to be CNC mandrell bent out of stainless.

Big thanks to Glen of SHR Developements for all the long ours of cutting and shapeing to get this far:headbang:
He has done a great job - pretty hard to sqeeze all those pipes in there and maintain clearences and design so plugs could still be removed

Useing a t4 devided flange seperate banks feeding each port:thumbsup:

Made a shorty 4-1 header up for drivers side

Turbo is a Masterpower T70 Q trim rated to over 800 hp:bravo:

We have decided to go with a bigger intercooler then pictured,
should be able to squeeze a 600x300x75 core in there with a little massageing:evil:

Deffinately go bigger cooler, a 450x300x65 wont doa thing for that kind of set-up.

What kind of psi are we talking about here, taking into consideration your slapping a 700hp turbo, what else is been beefed up?

Driveline?
Box?
etc???

Great effort, i am about to have an almost identical job for my ute finished off this week coming.

Don't know how much further along you are but some of the issues we faced were squeezing a cross over pipe, dump pipe and external wastegate plumb back pipe all past the steering rack and firewall on the passenger side without compromising the minimum ride height of the vehicle and pipe sizings.

As a result the entire existing exhaust was scrapped and some thought went into creating a new setup that would not hold us back on the above issues (theoretically, i dont have the car back yet as posted above), but it appears to work by using a big single cat after the dump pipe to eliminate the pressure of trying to mount into the traditional twin cats. From the cat the system then splits off into a twin 3" catback.

I dont want to give away too many secrets out of respect to my builder and his incredible effort as this has been one of his toughest forced induction jobs ever, but i will keep a keen eye on your thread for updates.

Textralia clutch
3.9 diff gears
std driveline
Currently head and cam, 12.4 sec et
But the heads will be coming off for the moment as they have had 60" off - 11:1 comp ratio

So will start out with std block and heads ,224 cam, 918 springs and 8 psi boost.

But the engine on the stand is destined for some low compression pistons, forged rods and the Higgens heads back on - then we wind up the boost:bounce:

We were lucky to have another engine I picked up cheap on an engine stand , has made it much easier to fab up then trail fit - but some bits took 2 or 3 goes till Glen was happy.

I Intend to run a 4" single system and we don't have to worry about cats over here yet;) still working on dump pipe and waistgate , gonna be a squeeze - we may have to settle for a 3.5' section of dump pipe to get enough clearence between chassis rail and engine.

Geezuz..... did you get that turbo off a jumbo jet or something??? It's huge!!!!!

No matter what we did the best we could go was a 3.5" dump pipe, there just wasn't enough room. I found this http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=53286 which shows another setup on the forum. The biggest difference to my setup is the wastegate is down under the dump pipe by the chassis rail and plumbs back into the dump pipe as it is still coming down out of the bay. Maybe a bigger dump would be possible with the other wastegate setup.

I would like to put some pics up, but at this stage i have none. Need to borrow a camera from a mate when i get the car back.

As for the cat, well my wallet would be much fatter without it but i cant move to NZ. :-)

Yes we have room to place wastegate between manifold and crossover pipe at rear of block , but a 46 mm wastegate an't a small peice of kit to wangle in there:doh: sounds like a similar setup.

better get hold of a camera, would love to see some pic's.

What turbo you gonna run with !

We picked up a Garret Ball Bearing unit that had been built for another application but not used (saved alot of dollars with the free stuff that was thrown in and the big discount) so all i know for sure is that it has the divided flange and is rated at 800hp. Physically it is a squeeze to have it in the engine bay, if i can figure out how to get the happy snaps off of my phone then i will try to post them.

Twin 3" cat back

My builder also scoured a set of 285 HSV Clubby headers for nothing so the drivers side was cleaned up and fitted instead of a custom header (Couple of dollars saved and from what I have heard there isn't much wrong with them).

Sorry for hijacking part of your post but i am getting excited and hopefully we give some inspiration to those thinking of a "backyard" job.

I'd like to be in this beast when the boost kicks in. What rpm are you expecting that to be? ~3500?

SS Brute,

Looking good , bet you can't wait.

I'm still a ways off , gotta send it away to be scanned and CNC mandrelll bent in stainless then have it all stitched together , but will look very proffesional when finnished and we can build another set as required.

Should be producing boost by 2000 rpm and full boost at 2500-3000 rpm:deal:
