Alright its time for me to get a new set of wheels for my ride, I only want to go 18" as funds only allows me to do so as I have other plans.
Its a White VX SS and I am trying to pick between these two set of rims, what do you think?

Check the width of these rims. First one is only 7 1/2" and second is 8 1/2".

:hmmm: I feel kind of dumb at the moment but is that a problem the width's? What width should I be looking at, I was looking threw the Holden Commodore Special Page so I was gathering they would of fit?.

I think the wider rims for 18*8.5 Starcorp Racing Tracer2 - Shadow are with the deep dish.

Maybe also consider getting something genuine looking if you like the VZ Monaro wheels?

Looking at the issue from a practical perspective, the BEST rims to get have a lip on the outside edge and they are painted not chrome. These features make the wheels easy to repair after they are scraped against a kerb.

The lip limits wheel damage to this area (unless the wheel whacks kerb with untold force). The wheel repair people merely machine the lip down a few thou to remove the damage. The wheel repair people then repaint the rims to match the factory colour. Are they able to repair the chrome finish on rims? I don't know. If they are, I bet this increases the cost of repairs.

Dane, if you are doing it on a budget go for a set of series 1 18 inch Monaro rims - they look great on a white VX SS...

If you can stretch the budget a bit more try to find a set of VX R8 Clubby rims. (The gold ones)

Cheers,
Paul...

The wider rims look a lot better, a bit of dish is the way to go, 8.5" rims will fit easily.

definately go with that advice :) both sets of rims look awesome.. i think if you are going for some 18 inch rims i would suggest keeping either holden or hsv, they look a lot nicer than after market 18s i think.

If you were going for 19s/20s id suggest something else for the wow effect, but i think keeping to hsv/holden spec would be a good thing :)

heres a couple of photos that iv come across..

IMHO I believe after market looking wheels if they are not the right ones can look bad

Take a look at these suggestions

the 18*7.5 HP Design - GunMetal looks better out of the two.
But from factory VX SS 18x8 down to Gunmetal 18x7.5 isn't a wise choice.
Because you're probably getting 225 tyres instead of 235 that you should be getting.

How about upgrading to Genuine Holden rims?
VYSS
VZSS
VZ SSZ
VZ Clubsport, R8, GTO etc

Ok well I have decided to go with these http://www.tempetyres.com.au/products_closeup.asp?part=&part_no=304
as I am after brand new tyres and wheels not second hand ones that need the tyres replacing. I seen a vx ss with these http://cgi.ebay.com.au/18-inch-Original-Monaro-Wheels-Tyres-Great-L-KING_W0QQitemZ8075765609QQcategoryZ6782QQrdZ1QQcmd ZViewItem and I got to say it turned me off the wheels and I was deciding to buy them or not. Maybe because it was not low enough? However these seem to catch my attention more and I think it will look great when I lower my back end a inch. I was wondering how low could I go with out rolling the guards, I dont want it to low but looking nice.

Cheers,
Dane.
