Hi guys, just looking for some opinions, Im almost due for a tyre change, and am looking at some 215-35-18 Pirelli P-7000's (cheap). They've been given the thumbs up on this site, but I currently have 235-40-18 Yokohamas and Im not sure how the size difference will affect my car. Any help is appreciated.
Cheers, Jarrod

Why would you go to 215 when you now have 235's ?

I assume you have 18x8 rims now ? You need to check if the 215's will go on the rims....

I dont know, thats why Im asking!! The rims i have are VT GTS, unsure of the width though...I was just wondering if the tyres would be a good buy if they were cheap ($170 per tyre brand new).

The reason they would be cheap is because there isn't much on the market they are even close to fitting!
Fair chance they have been sitting somewhere for a long time getting nice and hard.....
I would recommend you buy the best 235/40r18 you can AFFORD, not pursue this option, as they will throw your gearing and speedo out quite a lot.

Thanks for that davo, i thought it seemed a bit too good to be true

I'd have thought that by fitting narrower tyres, you will make wheel spinning so much easier.

Which will make a spirited launch from the lights a lot harder... if that makes any sense??

215/35/R18 tyres sound like the perfect addition to a pimped up Lancer.

Well I once had an Excel with 205/40/17's on 17x7's.

215/35/18 would have been a good upgrade.

Seriously they are too small in overall diameter for a Commodore

very easy to get 235/40/18 fitted for less than $180 in melbourne, nankangs fit this price and i run .5 quicker with them than with my much much more expensive fronts (used to be on the back)

Ok so after reading through tyre threads and scouring ebay, have come across a few sets of nankangs for sale, and basically come to the conclusion that for the price i cant really go too wrong. My car will never see track use and rarely do i push it and with their apparently long lifespan they seem like a good buy. Now to decide which ones to buy??
Should i stick with 235-40-18 or go up to 245's?
Ebay is quite vague, so are the ZR18's silica compound?
I have come across these two, but there are more:
235-40-18 Nankang NS2 for (speed rating H 210km/h) for $142 each + freight
245-40-ZR18 Nankang NS-2 for $999 set of four
Is it really worth paying around $400 extra for the wider, ZR tyres??
Damn, I have more questions now than when I started...any help guys!?

I personally dont think that 10mm of tyre makes a difference (235-245) and is not worth the money. Also the wider the tyre the harder to turn and will want to go straight.

Cheers

by the time you buy em on ebay ship em here and fit them you could have bought them here, 245/40/18 Ns2 can be bought fitted and balanced for $190 or less in melbourne, which side are you on?

Im in northern suburbs mate. I will get them off ebay i think as I can get them fitted/balanced etc when I get my rims repaired soon, and not have to pay for fitting twice. I should come out in front this way

Thats true, if your changing the rims anyway should be ok.
