Today I installed my PT copy OTR and am impressed with the overall feel of said beast the car seem's to pull smoother and with more gusto. In all honusty I realy didn't think I would gain much as my big sealed pod setup made big gains from the factory two hole moded MCAI k&n set up but to my surprise it has. Most noticeable is the smoothness throughout the rev range and just better drivability all in all me is very happy.
PS:Before anyone has an issue with me buying a copy I did try and source an original from PT who now only have limited stock reseved for there own customer's (fair) and also a perth sponser who only sells them packaged with a maffless tune (not needed) as he has limited supply as well so dismount of your high horses as I did try to give sponsers my $$$ before going elsewhere but these things are hard to get and I do understand why tuners are packaging OTR's with tunes as it will make a noice improvement. And if you have idea's of performing air intake mod's just go straight to the OTR don't mess around with pods etc as you will end up spending twice.:D

I agree - Don't stuff around with PODs and other types of intakes. Get it right first time. OTR rocks
Cheers

Must have an inbuilt safety mechanism as his air bag seems to have gone off UNDER HIS SHIRT.

Very noice I would like to try a new TB and may do the 25%UD if I go a cam.I am keen to hear your new Hp reading I don't think you will see a huge jump as these three all give smallish gains but on road you will notice a massive improvement.

Hi all, Can someone tell me is there any risk of water getting into engine after fitting an OTR. Thanks, Keith.

With the filter on, no problems at all with water unless you do creek crossings :stick:

Just noticed your grill has been painted silver Daz. Did you do this ?
The OTR looks good. What was involved to make the change ? :whip:

I have the same type of OTRCAI as Daz has fitted.
It is pretty easy to fit, with the only mod being to have to trim a small bit of length off the plastic female clip that protrudes off the thermofan cover towards the engine.
The clip is there to accept the metal male clip on the underside of the radiator shroud, but obviously this is not used whilst you have the OTRCAI installed.
It is a good idea just to trim enough of the clip off to facilitate fitment of the OTRCAI. That way the clip can be still be used in future if you were to remove the OTRCAI and reinstall radiator shroud to sell the car, or take in for warranty :nyuk:
As I have noticed with most other PT style OTRCAI's, mine also rubs on: the soft bonnet liner causing it to expose the yellow core inside; the rear edge on the underside lip of the front of the bonnet; the underneath of the intake on the a/c condensor (and the radiator/thermofan cover to a lesser extent).
As an interim measure, I have stuck some cloth tape on the underside of the intake to stop it wearing through, especially where it rubs on the a/c condensor's sharp metal edge...
Unfortunately these intakes aren't a perfect fit, and will require some regular inspection and adjustment to ensure that they aren't rubbing through etc. However, some of this rubbing can be minimised by adjusting the positioning.

i heard when installing it you need to get it Mafless tuned?

They are not designed to have a MAF stuck on between the OTR and the throttle body, there just isn't room. Consign the MAF to oblivion...

Most OTRCAI's on the market will require you to go Mafless (and hence a Mafless tune), but there are also some that don't like the Sureflo and Orrsom I believe...

They will have to start developing them with a MAF anyway, since the L76 wont take a MAFLESS tune...
(thats what i read somewhere on this forum anyway)

There are a few L76's with Mafless tunes. Ones done 12.8 (big thread on it)

If that is the plastic version I can guarantee it will crack where it attaches to the throttle body. Heat / cool / heat / cool do not bode well for plastic.
It will end up in the garage where mine is.
The fibreglass version is far better.

I have had the exact opposite experience , never cracked a PT OTR when fitted properly but every fibreglass copy I have seen to date has been cracking up .
The important thing on any OTR is to have a good flexible joint between the OTR and the engine as the engine moves quite a lot under acceleration

I tend to agree (experience). I also think that they need a very flexible mount between throttle body and OTR - I think this has been my downfall.

At our last private track day at WSID, there were many that were cracked.
Mine was fitted correctly, a silicon rubber extension may be a solution to the problem as what you are saying is true.
Unfortunatley they do become brittle and crack. Much like the SS inductions throttle body pipes did at the exact same location.

yes I always fit with a silicon rubber hose to allow movement

You remove the black rubber adapter on the OTRCAI and cut back the neck a bit (at least i cut it back a bit) then put some silicone hose in its place (intercooler hose).

You'll need another hose clamp too.
One to secure the hose to the OTRCAI, and one to secure the hose to the TB...
